How To Get A Job As An Expat In UAE – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Getting a job as an expat in UAE can be a challenge, but with the right tools and resources, it can be done with ease. In fact, the UAE seems to be the last place people go to secure a job. This is due to the customs and traditions of the country compared to other Western countries.

However, one first thing you need to understand is the culture. The UAE is basically an Islamic nation, so you must respect their culture and customs while working. Besides, there are other things you need to do in order to increase your chances of getting a job.

Of course, you need to get your resume in order. Make sure to highlight all of your skills and work experience, as well as your education. If you have any certificates or other documents that can support your application, be sure to include them too. Also, it’s important to network with people who are already working in the UAE.

Now, ask yourself; are you working for a short period or full-time employment? After you might have decided what works best, there are a few necessary preparations you should do before your departure.

First, if you have not done so, get a travel visa and make sure it is valid for the entire duration of your stay in the UAE

Next, open a bank account in UAE so you can easily access your money while working there

Make copies of all important documents, including your passport, visa, and driver’s license. Keep the originals in a safe place.

Take some time to learn about the culture and dress appropriately for work. It is best not to stand out like a sore thumb and make sure to follow the country’s customs.

In addition, there are a few websites that can help you secure a job in the UAE.

UAE Jobs

This website is dedicated to helping expats find work in UAE. They have a wide range of jobs available, from teaching English to hospital work. Also, their job seeker’s section is very helpful and includes tips on how to write a resume, how to network, and how to prepare for an interview.

Dubai Jobs

This website is for Dubai job seekers. It includes information about the city, job seekers’ tips, and a list of job vacancies. With this platform, you can search for jobs by category or location. In fact, it’s one of the most comprehensive job websites in the UAE.

Bayt Jobs

This website is a great resource for finding jobs in the Middle East. They have an extensive database of jobs, as well as resume tips and interview advice. You can also create a profile on Bayt.com to make it easier for employers to find you. This is why it is one of the most popular job websites in the UAE.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social media platform that can be used to find jobs, as well as connect with employers and colleagues. It’s important to have a strong LinkedIn profile if you want to work in UAE. This includes having a quality photo, a complete profile, and a few recommendations from previous employers.

Why Is It Difficult To Get Jobs in the UAE

There are many reasons why it is difficult to get a job in the UAE. One reason is that there is a lot of competition for jobs in the UAE. Many people want to live and work in the UAE, so there are a lot of applicants for every job vacancy. This makes it difficult for people looking for jobs to get hired. Check out the reasons we’ve got for you!

Market Competition

The UAE is a rapidly growing economy with many opportunities for businesses and job seekers alike. However, with such an opportunity comes fierce competition. It can be difficult to stand out from the pack and notice potential employers. This can make it tough to snag a job in the UAE.

Limited Availability of Certain Jobs

Certain jobs are in high demand in the UAE, but few workers fill all positions. This can make it difficult for foreigners to get their foot in the door in certain industries. Aside from this fact, the UAE is also a very expensive place to live, and many companies are unwilling to pay high wages for employees who may only be in the country for a short period.

Language Barrier

The UAE is home to people from all over the world, and as such, there are many different languages spoken in the country. English is the most commonly spoken language, but it can be difficult for foreigners to find work if they do not have a good grasp of the language.

Cultural Differences

The UAE is a Muslim country, and as such, some cultural norms and values are upheld in the workplace. Foreigners may not be familiar with these cultural differences, leading to conflicts in the workplace. Additionally, many companies in the UAE prefer to hire locals instead of foreigners, as they feel that locals are more familiar with the country’s culture and norms.

Visa Restrictions

UAE visas are not easy to come by, and they can be difficult to renew. This can make it difficult for foreigners to stay in the country for an extended period, making it difficult to find a job. Also, many jobs in the UAE require that employees be sponsored by their employer, leading to visa restrictions.

Limited Work Opportunities for Women

The UAE is a patriarchal society, and as such, there are limited work opportunities for women. Most jobs in the UAE are available to men only, and many companies are unwilling to hire women due to cultural norms and values. This can make it difficult for foreign women to find work in the UAE.

Difficulty Obtaining Residency

Once a foreigner has been hired for a job in the UAE, they must apply for residency. This process can be difficult and time-consuming, and it can often take months or even years to be granted residency. This can make it difficult for foreigners to stay in the UAE long-term, leading to problems finding a job.

Limited Social Opportunities

The UAE is a very social country, and many people spend their weekends and evenings out at bars and nightclubs. This can be difficult for foreigners who do not have many friends. It can also be difficult to find activities outside of work, as most things in the UAE are geared towards locals.

High Cost of Living

The UAE is a very expensive place to live, and most expats find that they spend a large portion of their salary on living expenses. This can be difficult for foreigners who are not used to paying high prices for necessities. Also, the cost of living in the UAE tends to be higher than in other regions.

Limited Career Opportunities

The UAE is a young country, and many industries are still infancy. This can lead to limited career opportunities for foreigners looking to stay in the country long-term. Also, many of the larger companies in the UAE are unwilling to hire foreigners, as they feel that locals are more familiar with the culture and the business landscape.

Documents Required To Get Jobs in UAE

If you are looking for a job in the United Arab Emirates, you must provide certain documents to your potential employer. The documents required vary depending on your nationality and the type of job you seek, but some of the most common ones are listed below.

A Copy of Your Passport

This is probably the most important document you will need. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your intended stay in the UAE. Aside from this fact, your passport must also have at least two blank pages for visa stamps. This waives the requirement for a visa if you are only staying in the UAE for a short period.

A Copy of Your Emirates ID card

This is another important document, as it serves as your residence permit and identification card in the UAE. It must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your intended stay. Also, it is helpful to have a copy of your Emirates ID card if you need to renew your visa while in the UAE.

A Copy of Your University Degree or Diploma

This is required if you are seeking a job in a professional or managerial position. The copy must be attested by the UAE embassy or consulate in your home country. Also, your degree or diploma must be from a recognized institution. This means that you may not work in the UAE if you graduate from a university that the UAE government does not recognize.

A Copy of Your Employment Contract

This is required if you seek a position, not in a professional or managerial field. The copy must be attested by the UAE embassy or consulate in your home country. Moreover, the contract must be valid for at least two years. Not only is that, but the contract must also state that you will be working in the UAE for a minimum of two years.

A Medical Examination Report

This is required if you are seeking a job in the UAE and you are not from one of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The medical examination must be conducted by an approved panel of doctors in your home country. It is important to note that the UAE has strict health and safety regulations, so you will likely be required to undergo a medical examination even if you are from a GCC country.

A Copy of Your Criminal Record Check

This is required for all job applicants, regardless of nationality. An approved panel of police officers must conduct a criminal record check in your home country. In fact, some employers may even require a police clearance certificate, in addition to a criminal record check.

A Copy of Your Driver’s License

This is not required for all job applicants, but it can be helpful to have a copy if you are seeking a position that requires driving. Also, the UAE has very strict traffic laws, so you will likely need a driver’s license if you plan to drive in the country. Therefore, it is a good idea to have a copy of your driver’s license handy, just in case.

Overview of the Requirements to Work in the UAE

Although the UAE is a developed country, it does require overseas workers to help achieve its vision of full employment. The UAE has seen an enormous amount of growth over the past several decades. The rapid growth of the oil industry led to many poor workers immigrating there for jobs in construction and oil production.

Many people came without any documentation or legal status. The government has regulated these workers by requiring identification cards and visas, but still, thousands of people come each year without any documentation. This guide will overview the requirements needed for a foreigner to work in the UAE.

Residence Visa

To begin employment in the UAE, a residence visa is required. This is usually part of the employee’s contract and will specify whether or not there is a fee for the visa. If not specified, the employer should cover this cost. Employees must also have an exit/re-entry permit to travel outside during their stay.

Work Visa

Obtaining a work visa is the next step after receiving a residence visa. This process can be long and complicated, depending on the country of origin and occupation listed on the application. A fee is usually attached to this process as well. There are several types of work visas:

General Employment Visa

This visa is for any occupation that does not require a specific skill. It can also be used to bring family members along with the worker. So, if an employee had a spouse and children, they would each receive their own General Employment Visa.

Labor Visa

This visa is for occupations that involve manual labor or non-skilled work. A fee may be attached to this visa depending on the number of years the foreigner would like to stay in the country.

Skills Visa

This visa is used for skilled workers with a specific skill set. There may be an attached fee depending on if the occupation requires a licensing procedure or not.

Technical Visa

This visa is only for jobs that require a technical education or certification. There may be an attached fee depending on the number of years the foreigner would like to stay in the country.

e) Dependent Visa

This visa is used for family members that wish to come with the worker. There may be an attached fee depending on if the occupation requires a licensing procedure or not.

Residency Permit

After receiving a work visa, employees can apply for a residency permit. This will allow them to live and work in the UAE, as well as travel through the country. A fee may be attached depending on the length of time requested.

That’s why, to achieve full employment, the UAE needs labor from overseas. Getting work visas and residency permits can be an extensive process, but it is possible with the help of a professional immigration service.

Tax Status

The UAE is a tax-free country for citizens and expats alike. Because of this, it does not deduct any taxes from employees’ salaries. Therefore, employees will need to check with their home country and/or consult a tax professional to see if they are obligated to pay taxes.

Employment License

Employers must have an employment license to hire foreigners. There is usually a fee associated with this paperwork, especially if the employer is not a government entity. However, if the foreign worker has a residence visa, they can start to work once the employment contract is signed.

Health Certificate

Anyone wishing to reside in the UAE for more than 30 days must have a medical exam and present a health certificate upon arrival at customs. For those doing heavy labor or working with hazardous materials, additional screening may be required.

Work Permit

The work permit is an internal document that verifies the foreigner’s authorization to work in the UAE. Employers must keep track of this paperwork at all times, and workers will need to produce it each time they renew their visa or residency permit.

Being aware of these requirements is the first step to working in the UAE. Many additional requirements can be confusing or overwhelming, so consulting a visa specialist is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions about Working in the UAE

Is it easy to get a job in the UAE?

No! It’s not easy to find a job in the UAE, but if you’re willing to work hard and be open-minded, and follow through with all your tasks (no matter how repetitive or menial they may seem), then it will definitely pay off. We’ll cover this in more detail later on.

How long does it take to find a job?

It depends on your visa status and what you’re looking for, but it’s usually just a matter of perseverance and getting in the right place at the right time. Showing up for lots of interviews is important, even if you don’t get the job. It shows that you’re qualified and organized.

Are there any student jobs available in the UAE?

Yes! If you are under 30, are a non-national, AND have less than 10 years of work history, your options are much more limited, but there are opportunities. Perhaps you’ll be able to work for a university or volunteer to do something while you search for a more traditional job.

Web Developer Jobs UAE – Where Can You Find The Best Roles part 1 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Websites and web development have come a long way. Once upon a time, creating a website was tricky; however, now it’s easier than ever! Gone are the days of building your site from scratch using HTML or designing using Photoshop for each page.

Nowadays, there is such a wide selection of CMSs (content management systems) that building a website is as easy as authoring some content and clicking publish. The golden age of web development really kicked off in the 1990s with the advent of HTML and JavaScript.

Fast forward to 2016, and we have all kinds of crazy new technologies emerging, such as WebGL, 3D CSS, and Node JS, which enables us to build complex applications and amazing user experiences.

Although the web development scene has evolved dramatically over the past 20 years, there is still a growing need for skilled and experienced developers to build and maintain websites and applications (desktop and mobile) that we all use every day.

Moreover, no two jobs are ever alike; as a website developer, you will probably find yourself working on a number of different projects, from designing a website to building complex applications. Today, we’ve come up with the ultimate guide about web developer jobs in the United Arab Emirates. Read on to see what we’ve got!

Requirements to Get Web Developer Jobs in UAE

The internet is the biggest platform connecting people across the world. And with social media networks reaching out to billions of users, Web Development is becoming one of the most sought-after professions in recent years.

The demand for web developers has never been this high before, especially in countries like UAE, where you can find companies consistently recruiting skilled professionals. However, even expert web developers find it difficult to secure jobs in the UAE. Why is that?

Well, several factors make it tough for designers and developers to get UAE jobs depending on their skills, experience, and education. But if you think about it carefully, there are certain requirements every developer (from countries like India) should possess before applying for jobs in the UAE.

These requirements could be according to job type, and you might need a separate set of qualifications for special projects or tasks. If you want to get Web Developer Jobs in UAE, here are 7 things you should focus on.

Certifications

While getting web developer jobs in other countries is not necessary, having certifications can make you stand out among the rest. Getting web developer jobs in UAE is even more difficult, and it’s often necessary to have certifications to prove your worth. Good examples are Web Developer plus Certification from Microsoft or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) by (ISC) ².

Specialization

Getting web developer jobs in UAE is easier if you have a specialization. And there are hundreds of options to choose from, such as IT Security, Cloud Computing, .NET Development Design Patterns, etc. These are the areas that experts look for when hiring web developer candidates. You need to check all your options before applying so you know exactly what they want.

Experience

There are no shortcuts to getting web developer jobs in UAE. If you want special projects or tasks, you should have the required experience. Even if it means working for free (which is unheard of but still happens), having experience can help you get your foot in the door and advance your career as a software developer! This also relates to specialization because specific tasks usually require an expert.

Academic Qualifications

Whether it’s a degree, diploma, certificate, or something else, having academic qualifications for web developer jobs in UAE makes you a more reputable candidate.

This is especially true if you’re applying for software development roles that require advanced coding and critical thinking. You should also consider that companies want their employees to have a complete background in web development.

Location

Since you’re probably reading this article because you’re looking for jobs in UAE, it’s safe to say that location is an important factor. Having the skills is not enough – you need to have the right location so employers can find you or your references. This also affects the company’s location because they need to be in direct communication with you.

Networking

Also, you need to build your network. This is especially important if you want to get web developer jobs in UAE. You should start by consulting with experts who can help give advice and point you in the right direction for more information on succeeding as a software developer.

There are also online communities where members (especially those looking for web developer jobs in UAE) can help you build your network and give you the right advice.

Salary Expectations

Finally, one of the biggest factors that affect how you’ll get web developer jobs in the UAE is your salary. This may be surprising because it’s not part of the job requirements! But the truth is, companies need to know how much they should pay for your services.

If you demand too much, chances are you won’t be given a chance. If you demand too little, then it’s not a good thing either because the company will think that your skills are just average and won’t be worth all that money. There is a happy medium where companies appreciate your services while you get paid what you deserve.

What Are the Roles of a Web Developer Jobs in UAE

Web Developer Jobs in UAE are perceived as one of the most rewarding choices for people looking to validate their skill set. Web Developer jobs are available in different types, which are more or less related.

The difference is often related to the developer’s experience, mostly because it provides more opportunities to learn advanced techniques and skillsets. The difference is best understood by looking at different designations that match the experience.

Junior Web Developer Jobs in UAE

Junior Web Developer jobs are often available to fresh graduates who have just received their degrees, which allow them to learn and develop themselves as professionals. The emphasis is usually on learning and implementing basic techniques for front-end and back-end development.

The developer is often asked to design simple and user-friendly websites or CMS sites. They are also tasked with maintaining existing web applications, which helps identify potential problems and learn from them. In terms of responsibility, a junior Web Developer is expected to keep up with new developments in their field, as well as research to stay updated.

A junior Web Developer is often restricted by the lack of exposure to technologies, which affects how they are perceived when applying for higher positions in leading companies. This leads them to apply for web developer jobs that are not restrictive regarding technology choices.

Mid-Level Web Developer Jobs In UAE

Mid-level Web Developer Jobs in UAE are somewhat similar to junior positions but often allow more flexibility when implementing new techniques. This is because the developer has already developed a good understanding of existing web development methods and technologies, which help them pick their next steps.

The primary responsibilities of Mid-Level Web Developer Jobs in UAE are to help design and develop new web applications, often with the guidance of more experienced developers. They are tasked with more responsibility for testing and debugging, which means they need a good understanding of how the application interacts with other systems on the network.

The job market for Mid-level Web Developer Jobs in UAE is competitive, making it more difficult to get hired without professional experience. This makes it an ideal choice for developers who are near the end of their studies or recent graduates who want to build up their portfolios before applying for senior positions.

Senior Web Developer Jobs in UAE

Senior Web Developer jobs in UAE often require the most knowledge and experience. The developer has the most number of technologies to choose from for web development, meaning they can pick what is best suited for their client’s objectives.

The Senior Web Developer in UAE is often tasked with designing and developing new web applications, which means they need to be aware of how it fits into existing infrastructure. This requires advanced knowledge of web programming, data structures, and encryption.

Understanding the security aspect of web development is also an important responsibility for this position. They need to understand how user authentication, access control, and other verification forms can make or break a site. This makes it necessary for senior Web Developers in UAE to continually research the latest developments in the industry to keep up with the latest security breaches.

With the most number of technologies available, the job market for Senior Web Developer Jobs in UAE is extremely competitive. This means developers need to have a balanced portfolio to show off their skills. If you’re aware of different technologies and understand how to implement them, this could help you stand out from other applicants.

Types of Tax in the United Arab Emirates

Taxes are a necessary part of living in any country. To ensure that everyone contributes towards the growth, well-being, and success of their nation, tax is charged on almost everything you earn, own or buy. However, many countries have different rates for different forms of taxation.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) uses federal and local taxes to fund the country’s spending needs. There are also taxes on residents and companies operating in the UAE, at both local and federal levels. Different names in certain countries may know taxes, but their purpose is essentially the same, regardless of their call.

Each tax has its unique way of applying charges to different sources of income or transactions, and each one has a dedicated department that regulates it. Below are the types of taxes in the UAE.

1. Tax on Incomes

All individuals and companies in the UAE pay tax at a rate of 20 percent, as well as a 3 percent municipality levy. Also, a fee of Dh3,000 applies to non-citizens who want a labor card. Moreover, expatriates with income above Dh21,000 and freehold property in their name must pay an annual tax of 1.5 percent on the home’s value.

2. Value Added Tax (VAT)

VAT is a type of indirect tax applied in the UAE on both goods and services with an additional percentage added on top of their original price. The rate for this form of taxation is 5 percent, although certain items have a zero percent rate, including basic foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, and medical services.

3. Offshore Companies’ Income Tax

All UAE residents or citizens must declare any income obtained from offshore activities to their local authority immediately. This is because the country regards all money made outside its borders as taxable revenue, even if it is not brought into the country.

4. New Corporate Tax

Private companies are subject to a flat rate of 9% for taxable income exceeding 375,000 UAE dirhams ($102,000) and zero for taxable income up to that amount to support small businesses and startups. This tax only applies to UAE-based firms, as foreign affiliates are charged by their respective federal authorities in their home countries.

5. Tax on Property

The UAE government determines who is liable to pay taxes for properties based on nationality or residency. Non-residents and foreign nationals do not have to pay tax for these homes and only register with the municipality. However, if a person is an Emirati citizen and owns more than one property, they must pay 2 percent of the total value of the homes as tax.

6. Tax on Wills and Inheritance

The government charges each person who inherits money, property, or other assets a 4 percent fee on all their new fortune. This applies to both individuals and companies that receive an inheritance from someone who has passed away, regardless of whether they live in the UAE or not.

7. Expat Levy

All companies in the UAE must pay a Dh10,000 fee per worker every year if they have over 100 employees on their staff roster. This means that most businesses will contribute at least Dh1 million in fees for each worker employed by them. However, there is no fee when an establishment has fewer than 100 employees.

8. Tax on Specific Goods and Services

Certain transactions are liable to tax in the UAE, including those that contribute towards congestion levels in the country. Items subject to this type of taxation include commercial buildings, car ownership, petrol prices, and tobacco products. Moreover, companies must pay 0.5 percent of their annual income as a license fee.

10 Laws You Should Know About UAE

If you are an expat living in UAE, you have likely heard of the laws here. However, some people may not know the following laws and rules.

Sharia Law

The judicial system in UAE follows Sharia Law. The act, which is part of Islamic law, has been implemented since the formation of the UAE. It operates under an inquisitorial system and can be called into effect by any state agency or official. While it is true that certain aspects are not applicable to non-Muslims, they may still come into practice when the interests of Sharia Law are involved.

Alcohol Ban

Drinking alcohol is prohibited throughout the UAE regardless of age, location, or nationality. If you are caught, it will be confiscated, and if you are an Indian or Bangladeshi national, you face deportation. You can still order alcoholic beverages in bars and restaurants, but you will not be served them. You can bring in alcohol for personal consumption, but you cannot take it outside the UAE (even within free zones).

Driving Ban

Non-Muslim expats are not allowed to drive in the country, while Muslims who aren’t Emiratis are allowed to obtain a license that is valid only in Dubai. All expats living in the country must have a UAE-registered car with a valid UAE or GCC number plate.

Illegal Residency

If you are staying in the country on an employment visa, you must apply for residency as soon as it becomes available to you. If you enter the country without proper documentation, your residency will be illegal. You can obtain a six-month visa on arrival by filling out the proper forms and paying the fee at the airport.

Overtime Working Rules

Overtime is generally expected in UAE, but some rules govern it. The working hours are from 8 am to 2 pm (summertime) and from 8 am to 3 pm (winter time). The maximum working hours are 48 hours per week.

Labor Problem

Excessive working hours and a ban on trade unions are the main issues surrounding labor problems in UAE. Although, there has been progressing as new legislation was introduced which gives employees more rights and better working conditions.

Free Zones

Free zones are a good place to do business in UAE as they have their laws and regulations. This allows them to have different rules from the rest of the country but remain under its federal government’s umbrella. To establish your business, you need to apply for a license from the free zone trade department and pay a fee (based on your business).

Entry and Residence Visa

There are two entry visas: a tourist visa and an employment visa. The latter can be obtained before entering the country through an agency, while the former is given to you by immigration on arrival (for free) after your booking is confirmed. You can also choose to enter as a transit passenger, which allows you to stay in the country without a visa.

Work Permit

Before entering into an employment contract, your prospective employer is required to obtain a permit for you from the Ministry of Labor. The necessary documents are based on the profession you are applying for. This also applies if you switch jobs or renew your current work permit.

Resolving a Dispute

As per the UAE constitution, the Federal Supreme Court is the highest court of appeal. It hears appeals regarding civil, commercial, and criminal cases. However, if you live within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or another two Emirates that have their courts (Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah), the case is heard in these courts.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Since its inception, the United Arab Emirates has been without a tax burden. With this development, people were able to do business without third-party involvement. Even though there’s an extra fee to pay for international transactions, it’s quite low compared to other countries in the world.

Meanwhile, businesses will be subject to the tax from June 1, 2023.

However, the country’s statutory tax rate will be 9% for taxable income exceeding 375,000 UAE dirhams ($102,000) and zero taxable income. In the long run, this will boost small businesses and startups, according to the ministry. In fact, the reports made it known that this UAE corporate tax system will be among the most competitive in the world.

Overview of the New UAE Corporate Tax 2023

According to the Ministry of Finance, United Arab Emirates, the corporate tax regime was designed to incorporate best practices globally. That being said, the program will minimize the compliance burden on businesses.

In addition, the corporate tax will be payable on the profits of UAE businesses as reported in their financial statements prepared in accordance with internationally accepted accounting standards, with minimal exceptions and adjustments. Also, the corporate tax will apply to all businesses and commercial activities alike. But it excludes the extraction of natural resources that remain subject to Emirate tax.

Furthermore, free zone businesses in the country can therefore continue to benefit from these tax incentives as long as they meet the requirements. In contrast, other companies within the UAE’s many free zones have long enjoyed zero taxes and full foreign ownership, among other benefits.

According to the reports, the new corporate tax announcement gives companies in the UAE roughly a year and a half to prepare for taxes. Still, reactions are mixed on whether the move will allow the Gulf sheikhdom to retain its attractiveness to businesses. This is why Mark Hemmings, vice president of tax and treasury at Dubai-based specialty services firm Kent, views the decision as “practical and sensible.”

He also disclosed that “It will be very interesting to see the detail, but at first glance, this looks like a practical and sensible approach to ensure companies in the UAE can comply with the anticipated new international tax rules, whilst ensuring the UAE remains an attractive location for businesses to operate,”

Benefits of Corporate Tax in Today’s World

Corporate income tax (CIT) is a tax on a company’s net profits, and almost all countries levy it. Just like any other taxation system, corporate taxation means more than just generating revenue for the government; CIT also has some social benefits along with its economic advantages. To get to know them better, see the ten benefits of corporate tax in today’s world presented below.

Encourages Transparency

In a bid to discourage tax avoidance, total transparency is required from companies so that they don’t take undue advantage of the system and pick only the most beneficial income tax structure for themselves. If a company has to show its total earnings, profits, and losses to the government, there is little chance it will hide anything.

Removes Doubts about Income

When companies are taxed on their net income only, they have no motive to overcomplicate or disguise their earnings. They can report any value as sales revenue because it will always lead to taxation, and they will never need to question the authenticity of their earnings in doing so.

Creates a Competitive Environment

When both large and small companies compete in a market and pay taxes on their respective earnings, it creates an equal environment for all businesses — no matter how large or small — to work and grow within. Moreover, if a company is taxed at lower rates than its competitors, it will suffer. It will find it challenging to keep up with other companies indefinitely.

Reduces Bias against Corporations

Unlike personal income tax systems where wealthy individuals are usually given tax breaks and targeted benefits, corporate taxation treats every company the same way regardless of its size, popularity, success, and earnings. This reduces the bias against corporate entities that is usually common among people owing to envy or ignorance.

Incentivizes Growth

If a business has to pay taxes for any price under a certain threshold or offset one tax with another by spending — as is the case with many countries — then it is incentivized to grow in size and provides the government with more revenue. This is beneficial for both parties because businesses can generate more income while collecting more taxes.

Penalizes Misuse of Resources

Countries that impose corporate taxation on companies are always at an advantage compared to other countries where businesses do not pay taxes. This is because the former takes away resources from their citizens which they would otherwise use in an unproductive manner or misused for negative purposes.

Reduces the Burden of Personal Income Tax

When a corporation is taxed on its net income, it reduces the tax burden of personal income taxpayers. This is because companies usually do not pay taxes on salaries to their workers or profit-sharing bonus that they distribute among key employees.

Encourages Development and Innovation

If a business pays any corporate tax, then it will always be at an advantage as compared to those companies that don’t. This is because those businesses which do not pay corporate taxes survive on the revenue generated by the other group and thus do not have sufficient funds for development or innovation.

Gives a Stronger Economy

The constant growth of a country’s GDP can only come from a strong economy that collects taxes from both its citizens and businesses. This strengthens the country’s economy because it can spend tax money on local development, foreign aid, environmental protection programs, etc.

Provides Better Opportunities for Investment

The more profitable a business is, the greater the amount of investment it attracts to itself. With increased investment opportunities come higher chances of success for a company, making the business environment more attractive to new businesses.

Tax Systems in the United Arab Emirates

Many countries in the world have a tax system, and what it means to be taxed varies between each. In UAE, there is no federal income tax as this will not fit into the current UAE tax system, which is based on charging companies for their activities within the country.

The United Arab Emirates’ economy has grown significantly since its formation in 1971, and its oil exports keep the economy running, but that’s not enough to support growth. While taxes are not used within UAE for citizens or companies, there is a system of fees known as Zakat, which all Muslims pay each year during Ramadan.

A tax system based on charging companies for their activities was implemented in 1998 after the formation of the UAE government. The Impost, or general tax system, led to more foreign businesses being attracted to the region, which helped build its local economy.

Impost charges are levied on companies that import goods into UAE using an Invoice-Import Method. They also include charges for all goods and services inside UAE, including shipping, insurance, and brokerage. Companies who provide services in UAE but do not import goods are charged based on their number of employees (Empowerment Tax).

Companies that operate outside the UAE which offer services to people within UAE are forced to pay taxes for this work through an External Commercial Presence (ECP) Method. Companies operating within UAE who import goods and provide services are charged taxes every year.

Best UAE Banks For Non Residents part 2 – Part one is here.

Best UAE Banks for Non Residents

So you’ve just made your first trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Now that you’re here, what’s the best option for banking? As a non-resident, there are many options available to you, including:

Banks that allow non-residents to open an account (you don’t actually need a visa or permit) only allow non-residents to open an account with a certain type of visa that they offer (i.e., Women’s/Family VIP visas) Banks which only allow residents either by nationality or residence. Well, here are our picks for the best UAE banks for non-residents.

HSBC

HSBC is globally recognized as a premier bank for non-residents looking to open an account. The best part of an HSBC account is that their services are the same worldwide so that you won’t be hanging around just in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. They have over 7000 branches and 800 ATMs in 79 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.

HSBC offers free incoming and outgoing international transfers on accounts opened with a minimum of USD 50,000. On top of that, they offer an exclusive ‘HSBC Premier’ account which provides services such as dedicated relationship managers, higher cash withdrawal limits, the more maximum number of transactions per month, a 24/7 customer service hotline, preferential rates on buying currency, and free local and international money transfers.

The account opening process for HSBC is a bit more complicated than other banks in the UAE, but nothing too strenuous if you have all the required documents presented to them. Other things worth mentioning include their 1% cash withdrawal charge, which can be avoided with an HSBC Premier account, a 1% monthly account management fee, and a minimum balance requirement of USD 25,000.

Mashreq Bank

Mashreq is one of the most well-established banks in the UAE. They are well known for their customer service overall, with their branches being open longer hours than almost all other banks in the UAE (their only competition being Emirates NBD).

Mashreq allows non-residents to open an account with their ‘Family’ visa, available for women only. This type of visa allows you to bring any family members legal residents in the UAE (spouses and children) with you when entering the country.

Besides, they also offer a dedicated Platinum account for non-residents, which gives you all the same benefits as their personal and SME accounts (no transaction fees, no minimum balance requirements, and up to 16 free transactions per month).

Their customer service telephone line operates from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays, and their website is also quite helpful when it comes to accounting opening procedures. Overall, an excellent option for non-residents if you have a Family visa!

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB)

Dubai Islamic Bank is the only Shari’a Compliant bank in the UAE that allows non-residents to open an account. This means that Dubai Islamic Bank offers an interest-free product unique in the UAE. However, Shari’a Compliant or Shari’a Non-Compliant doesn’t really matter if you live outside of the UAE, as this has no bearing on how much tax you’ll pay on your account.

Although DIB doesn’t offer a physical branch, they provide online banking and support through their call center (which operates until 8.30 pm every day). So if you’re comfortable with online banking, DIB is definitely worth checking out!

Emirates NBD

Emirates NBD is one of the biggest banks in the UAE and offers a range of non-resident services, including:

A dedicated 24/7 hotline for non-residents

Non-resident rates on currency exchange and cheque books, as well as a free Emirates NBD Visa Debit Card

Free incoming and outgoing international transfers (on accounts opened with a minimum of USD 50,000 or an Emirates NBD ‘Premium’ account)

A free account opening for new customers (which includes one free cheque book and either four free transactions or USD 120,000 of daily cash withdrawal limit per month on their current account)

In addition, all the fees typically associated with international bank accounts are waived for non-residents, which means you can benefit from having no monthly account management fee, no minimum balance requirement, and up to 12 free monthly cheque transactions!

So if you’re looking for a bank that offers the best options for non-residents in the UAE, Emirates NBD is definitely an excellent choice.

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB)

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank is another excellent option for non-residents in the UAE. ADCB offers a wide range of services which include:

International bank guarantees issued by ADCB for customers outside of the UAE to ensure that your money reaches its destination safely

An international debit card to withdraw cash from any ATM in the world (no transaction fees, up to USD 50 cashback per month, and 150 free transactions included)

No monthly account fee or minimum balance requirement

Free incoming international transfers (on accounts opened with a minimum of USD 25,000 or an ADCB ‘Premium’ account)

ADCB has branches worldwide, so opening an account on their website is easy and straightforward. Plus, their customer service team can be reached by phone or email if you need any assistance. So whether you’re looking for accounts that are geared towards non-residents or simply want an international bank account with no fees, ADCB ticks all the boxes!

Standard Chartered

Standard Chartered is one of the world’s biggest banks and offers an excellent range of products for non-residents. In fact, Standard Chartered is the only bank in the UAE to offer a USD account for non-residents – which comes with a free Visa debit card and no monthly account fees.

In addition, you can also open a multi-currency household account (with up to 5 sub-accounts), send international bank guarantees, and use their global network of branches to make international payments.

So if you’re looking for an international bank account that is open to non-residents, Standard Chartered ticks all the boxes.

Citibank

Al Hilal Bank

Another great option for non-residents in the UAE is Al Hilal Bank. Their accounts range is specially designed to provide customers with exceptional service and convenience. There are two types of accounts you can choose from at Al Hilal: an eAccount (a basic personal account) or a VIP Account (which offers you perks like personalized service and free issuance of cheques).

However, both accounts come with no monthly account fees, and there are no minimum balance requirements either. They also don’t charge any transaction fees on debit card cash withdrawals (in UAE only)

In addition, it’s worth mentioning that Al Hilal currently offers a free international MasterCard as well! So if you’re looking for an international bank account that has great features like no fees and free debit card transactions, Al Hilal Bank could be for you.

Emirates Islamic Bank

Emirates Islamic is a Sharia-compliant bank designed to provide customers with high-quality service in the UAE. And when it comes to their accounts, they feature an excellent range of accounts to suit non-residents.

One of the best things about Emirates Islamic is that you can open their accounts online in just 15 minutes (no matter where you are in the world!). So once you’ve opened your account, make a deposit and start using it straight away.

Their fees are also pretty reasonable – there’s no monthly account fee or minimum balance requirement. And they also offer free incoming and outgoing international transfers (as long as the currency transferred is USD). So, if you’re looking for an international bank account that doesn’t charge fees, Emirates Islamic could be a great option.

Frequently Asked Questions about UAE Banks

Can non-residents open a UAE Bank account?

Of course, you can open a bank account in the UAE provided you are over 18 years old and hold a valid residence visa. That being said, you will need to have a visa of the same class as the bank account you are applying for.

For example, if you want to open a current account at Citi Bank, you must have an employment visa with your name on it. The embassy of your home country in the UAE can help with this aspect.

Can I open accounts for my children?

Yes, you can open an account in your child’s name when they turn 16 years old. You may need to provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate and passport for this purpose. In some cases, you might also be required to provide a notarized letter from both parents authorizing the opening of such accounts.

Can I open accounts in my company’s name?

Yes, you can open accounts for your company at any commercial bank. Usually, banks limit the number of current and savings accounts that they allow to be opened under one name or one business entity.

This is done to minimize the risk of money laundering activities. However, if you wish to open accounts for your company, you must provide a copy of the commercial registration and details about the owner and directors.

Can I open accounts without a UAE residence visa?

It is possible to have a bank account in the UAE as a tourist. However, you must have a valid travel insurance policy from your home country, covering you inside the GCC countries. You may also need to open a bank account with a small deposit of AED500 or less so that you can keep your money safe while you are here.

How much can I deposit in my account?

Your bank may ask you to open an account with a minimum deposit amount of AED500 or more, depending on the type of account you will be opening. For current accounts, banks usually ask for a minimum balance equivalent to three months’ average salary.

Conclusion

For a very long time, opening a bank account in another country was not something easy to do for everyone. Foreigners had several hurdles that included language barriers and legal requirements, which made it difficult or even impossible for them to access banking services anywhere in the world. In recent years, things have changed dramatically with changes in legislation worldwide. This way, you can check this guide if you’re a non-resident in the UAE.

Best UAE Banks For Non Residents part 1 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

The UAE is one of the world’s most popular expat destinations, with hundreds of thousands of people arriving in the country each year. However, many people are unaware that there are specific banks for non-residents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to help them manage their international finances.

If you’re thinking about moving abroad, this article will explain which banking options are available to you. But before that, let’s quickly go over what exactly is meant by ‘non-residents.’

There are actually two types of foreign workers in the UAE; residents and non-residents. Resident expats will open a bank account at any branch in the country, while non-residents must use specific providers. These banks were explicitly designed for people who need a bank account but don’t have a residence visa, and the requirements are strict.

As well as being able to offer international banking facilities, many of these banks also have branches in other countries across the world. This means that you’re much less likely to be reliant on expensive money transfer services.

In fact, there are locally based banks in the country, so it might be better to think of them as UAE foreign exchange specialists. In this article, we will walk you through the best banks available in the UAE for non-residents. So, worry less if you’d love to open a bank account.

Requirements to Open UAE Bank for Residents

Are you a resident of the UAE who is looking to open a UAE bank account? If yes, then in this article, we will discuss the requirements and steps involved to open your own private bank account in UAE.

In order to get the account opened by the concerned bank authority, certain documents have been mandated by the banks from time to time. These documents can be submitted in person or through a designated agent operating on your behalf.

In addition to the documents, you may also need to furnish some more information that is not part of the set requirements but will facilitate the smooth opening of your account. So what are these additional pieces of information required by UAE Banks? Find out further in this article!

Copy of your passport and Emirates ID (You can get these copies done from the internet cafes at a fee. Some banks also provide these copies in their office)

Residency visa and sponsor’s letter (This is proof that you are a resident in UAE and living here on an employment visa for which your employer or sponsor has agreed to open the account.)

A minimum of Dh 1000 in cash, cheque, or DD (This is in lieu of opening balance. The bank keeps your cash with itself until you meet the required minimum.)

Rental contract (If you are staying in rented accommodation, then this is proof that you are paying rent and belongs to that particular location. This is usually mandatory when renting accommodation in Dubai)

Employment contract (The employment contract holds the details of your salary and designation. If you are employed in any organization, then this is a must.)

5 Requirements to Open UAE Bank for Non-Residents

A bank account is one of the essentials for today’s life. Many bank accounts provide various benefits like a credit card, debit card, and more facilities to their customers.

Bank accounts are now compulsory to complete almost every task in our daily life like receiving salaries or paying bills. If not done through an ATM or online banking services, it has to be done through a bank counter.

As a non-resident in the UAE, opening a bank account becomes more difficult. If you want to open a bank account in the UAE as a non-resident, you need to fulfill five requirements:

Keep your monthly average balance of AED 25000 for at least six months;

Open an NRE (non-resident) current account and keep AED 100000 for at least six months;

Keep an average monthly balance of AED 100000 in the NRE current account for six consecutive months

Submit a salary certificate from your employer or other acceptable documents to prove your job status in the UAE.

Send copies of your passport and residence visa with the application.

7 Benefits of Opening a UAE Bank Account

If you’re a non-resident of the UAE thinking about opening a bank account, here are some reasons why you should.

Keeps Track Of Your Finances

Opening a bank account in the UAE will allow you to keep an accurate record of your incoming and outgoing transactions, allowing you to manage your daily finances better. It is one of the first steps towards building a credit history. This can be particularly important if you’re thinking of buying property in the UAE or investing in the market.

Savings and Investment Accounts

One of the main advantages of having a bank account is that you can access savings accounts and investment facilities, such as mutual funds. You can easily set up recurring deposits in an internet or phone banking application – this way, you can have money automatically transferred into your bank account at regular intervals, meaning you don’t have to worry about making a deposit.

Free Cheque Books

Unlike many other countries, the UAE allows customers to get free checkbooks from their accounts at any bank. This makes it easy for you to withdraw cash from ATMs or write cheques without worrying too much about using cheques and making withdrawals.

Convenient for Businesses

Having a bank account in the UAE makes it easier to open businesses, as many businesses will require you to show proof of financial resources before they can be established. It also allows individuals living abroad (like expat workers) to quickly transfer money back home through international banking facilities.

Safe and Secure

UAE banks are well protected against cyber terrorism and fraud with advanced security measures such as military-grade encryption, making it a safe place for you to keep your money. Additionally, UAE banking is not only regulated by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates but also by international financial authorities like the IMF (International Monetary Fund).

High-Quality Customer Service

If you plan on opening a bank account, you can expect to receive high-quality customer service from all UAE banks. Banks offer advanced 24/7 phone support and even have dedicated call centers for their services, which can be reached through local numbers. Additionally, most central banks in the UAE offer free English-speaking services and advanced online or mobile banking facilities.

Protection against Identity Fraud

If your identity is stolen while you’re abroad, having a UAE bank account can be extremely helpful in recovering it quickly and preventing further damage, as most of these banks have dedicated fraud divisions that assist their customers in such cases.

Dubai is an Arabian city in the UAE known for its extreme modernization. The area has become a popular tourist destination, with many American’s choosing to live there because of its cultural tolerance and economic stability.

With over one million residents, the country has embraced much of the modern world while still holding onto its religious traditions. Monogamy is not banned, and a couple may marry as they please, but Islamic law is observed closely.

Under Sharia Law, there are strict rules about the requirements for a marriage to be considered legal within the UAE. In order for a marriage to be recognized, it must have two witnesses who can validate that both parties agreed to enter into the contract of matrimony. This is the only requirement, but there are a few other circumstances that can affect a marriage in court.

In Dubai, many marriages are prenuptial agreements recognized with an official document from the government recognized as a Marriage Contract. This is recognized by two witnesses and must be signed by both parties before exchanging money or property between them.

In the event that a family member of either party claims they have been coerced into the marriage, they can file a complaint against their spouse with an official document called a “Prohibition Request.” This is a court-issued order to stop a couple from being able to live together or cohabitate legally.

You Must Be At Least 21 Years Old

Marrying a minor under the age of 21 is not permitted in Dubai. In order to enter into matrimony, one party must be at least 21 years old, while the other should be 18 or older. However, courts are permitted to grant females aged 16 or older and males aged 18 or older to marry.

Provide Your Last 3 Months’ Salary Slips As A Proof

Dubai doesn’t allow marrying someone already married, so divorcees and widows/ers looking to remarry need to present their last three months’ salary slips as a requirement for marriage registration. The salary slips are confirmed as proof of income and solvency.

Not Everyone Can Be Married From Home

In Dubai, you aren’t allowed to be married in a place other than a government marriage office. Also, you can’t marry someone of inferior status, including non-Muslims and those with mental illness. Besides, a person can’t be married to a minor or someone already married.

You Must Have a Valid Residence Permit

In Dubai, it is mandated that those wishing to enter into matrimony apply for permission from the competent authority as required by current laws and regulations. In addition, those residing in the UAE on a visit visa are obliged to apply for a marriage license before celebrating their marriage.

You Are Only Allowed Up To Four Wives

Islam is the official religion of Dubai, so Sharia Law is the doctrine on which the daily affairs of residents are based upon. It’s permitted to have no more than four wives, provided that one is able to fulfill all his/her marital duties and support them financially. And it’s illegal to have a temporary marriage contract here, other than in some rare circumstances.

You Can’t Marry a Non-Muslim

In Dubai, you can’t legally marry someone who is non-Muslim. And neither party must be another Muslim without getting prior permission from the Sharia Court. All marriages between Arabs and foreigners, as well as Emiratis and foreign women, are banned in Dubai until further notice.

You Can’t Marry More Than Once

According to Dubai law, it’s not permitted to marry more than once. It means that those who are already married and want to remarry need to wait to complete their divorce procedures before they apply for another marriage license. Also, if one is able to obtain permission from his wife or her husband, he/she is permitted to marry again after the completion of his or her divorce procedures.

You Can’t Get Married If You Are Ill

In Dubai, you’re obliged to present your spouse with a health certificate before being allowed to register for marriage. A medical statement should be issued by an authorized government hospital stating that one can physically engage in a sexual relationship.

Saturday appointments are only compulsory for Muslim applicants.

What happens at the marriage ceremony?

How much does it cost to get married?

Are there special laws for foreigners in Dubai?

No, there are no different rules for marrying a foreigner. The conditions are the same as required for any other nation.
What about divorce?

A husband can file for divorce after he has presented his grounds for annulment; then, the matter is heard by a Sharia Judge, who will issue a final judgment on whether or not to dismiss the case.

Grounds for annulment include insanity, impotence, lack of judgment, being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, marriage to another person during the engagement period, and not informing one’s spouse about an existing marriage.

Factors to Consider Before Getting Married in Dubai

A lot of couples that are getting married for the first time will be doing it in Dubai. It is a very popular place to get married because of the beautiful surroundings, high-quality service providers, and no tax.

However, if you are not careful about where you shop for your wedding dress or suit, what hotel you stay at for your honeymoon, and how you obtain your legal marriage license, then you might not be married in Dubai. Here are five factors to consider before getting married in Dubai.

Ensure You’re Legally Eligible To Get Married

If one of the parties is getting married in Dubai is a U.S. citizen, then that person must obtain their fiancé visa before getting married in Dubai. You cannot just fly to Dubai to get married without this requirement being fulfilled because the legal marriage age in Dubai is 18, while it is just 16 years of age in the U.S.

The second party should be aware of where his or her passport was issued and whether or not they can legally get married in Dubai. You do not want to avoid the legal marriage age issue by flying a party to a country that has no minimum age requirement because if this is the case, then you can be arrested and charged with statutory rape.

Get Married In the Right Country

If one party is from Dubai and the other party is not, it will definitely be in your best interest to get married in Dubai. If you are marrying someone from Dubai, then you might want to consider having the wedding in a different country if they do not have citizenship in that country.

If this is your situation, then it can become difficult for your spouse to move over to the new country with their family depending on their legal status with their current government, especially if they are not a citizen of your home country.

Shop Your Wedding Attire in the Right Place

If you do not want to go shopping for your wedding attire or honeymoon lodging in Dubai, then be sure to avoid doing so there.

To save money on the cost of getting married in Dubai, you can expand your search for all of your wedding attire and honeymoon lodging to the U.S., where it is typically less expensive than in Dubai. You will not need to spend money on getting there or staying there, but you will still get goods that are just as high in quality as they would be in Dubai at better prices than what you would have to pay there.

Consider the Tax Implications

While it might not be very expensive for you to get married in Dubai, your guests flying in from other countries might find the trip expensive because they will have to pay a high price tag for their plane tickets.

This is where the location of your wedding becomes important because you do not want to be having people travel from all over the world just to attend your wedding, only for them to have a big tax bill waiting for them at their home country’s airport. This will definitely become a huge problem.

On the other hand, if you are having your wedding in a place like the U.S., then you should not have to worry about this expensive tax bill at all.

Determine Your Reputation

If your party is from Dubai and they want to simply get married in Dubai with no plans to move to another country, then you will not have the concern about what their legal status is in your home country.

This is because they can simply remain in Dubai, where they are citizens, and live without any issue. If they decide that they want to come over to your home country after getting married, then at least they have a legal right to come and live there as a resident.

5 Tips to Getting Married In Dubai

Getting married in Dubai is a great option if you want the best of both worlds: a relaxing yet exciting honeymoon experience. As an emirate known for its beautiful beaches and luxurious hotels, it’s also a great destination for honeymooners as well as those getting hitched. Here are five tips to get you started on the process of getting married in Dubai.

1. Research the Legal Requirements

Make sure you understand and know about all the requirements that need to be satisfied before your marriage can take place. You’ll find everything from how long you must stay in Dubai after your application for a visa is made to where you can get married.

2. Plan Ahead

The minimum time for a tourist visa is two months, and the maximum limit of your stay in Dubai is three months – so if you want to stay longer, think about applying for a longer-term visa upon entry into the country. Moreover, if you’re a Muslim, keep in mind that Islamic ceremonies can only be carried out during the day.

3. Choose a Wedding Planner

Many wedding planners are operating in Dubai to help you with your requirements and needs. If you decide to go this route, make sure to compare offers and prices so you can get the best value for your money and choose a company that’s reliable and experienced.

4. Decide On the Style of Wedding

Having a lavish wedding with all your friends and family present? Or do you want something intimate with just the two of you? Either way, make sure to choose a package that suits your requirements. That being said, make sure you go for a package that offers great value for your money.

5. Prepare For an Exceptional Honeymoon

After spending months planning your wedding, the fun part begins—enjoying your honeymoon! Explore different parts of the city and visit different attractions so you can have a unique experience in Dubai. In fact, you might also want to consider getting married in other emirates for a change of scenery.

Ways Expats Can Get Married In Dubai

If you’re planning to get married in Dubai, but aren’t planning on spending all of your money getting there and back, then this article is for you! There are ways that an expat can get married in Dubai without spending the equivalent of a small country’s GDP on their wedding.

Outlined below are five different options: local weddings, civil ceremonies, registered partnerships, common-law marriages, and more.

Civil Ceremonies

A civil ceremony is the cheapest route for expats looking to get married quickly in Dubai. While the UAE government doesn’t recognize it as a binding marriage (unless the couple has signed a prenuptial agreement), it does give them access to a civil marriage license, allowing you to have a legal wedding in Dubai.

In order to get this sort of ceremony, the couple must have one witness from their home country present. This is usually done through an embassy or consulate, and they will need to show up with valid passports for each person involved.

Registered Partnerships

Registered partnerships allow expats to get married in Dubai as long as they aren’t Muslim and/or one person is from the UAE. This can be an ideal arrangement for those who want to have a legally recognized wedding but don’t qualify for a full-blown marriage under Sharia law.

It’s also possible to have this type of arrangement with a same-sex partner for those looking to tie the knot with their significant other.

Common-Law Marriage

Common-law marriages are meant for couples living together in Dubai that have chosen not to get married. If you’re not ready to take the plunge just yet, but still want some form of legal protection in the country, this is the way to go.

It allows both people living in Dubai to claim their partner as a dependent when it comes time for taxes, among other things. The only downside is that this route won’t allow either partner to claim property or support from the other party if they break up.

UAE Marriage Law Requirements

According to the UAE’s marriage law, marriages performed in public are considered valid. Quran ceremonies aren’t recognized by Dubai authorities, which means that only civil unions will be recognized. Couples have to provide their official ID cards before they can get married.

This is usually done at the municipality office in charge of registrations. The precise location will vary depending on your nationality.

Avoiding Marriage Scams

If you’re looking to get married in Dubai, then it’s important to know that there are marriage scams out there. These scams often target men who are looking for spouses, but they can also happen with women as well.

The perpetrators of these crimes usually look for lonely or vulnerable people who want to get married in Dubai. After building up a relationship with their victims, they’ll either ask for money or try to blackmail them into doing something illegal (and possibly dangerous).
