Also, it serves as a major hub for the whole island, with an international ferry terminal (Larnaca International Port).

A British military base was always in Larnaca up to the year 1960. The city has also been awarded the European City of the Year 2012 because it has managed to cope with huge financial difficulties and come out on top through effective city branding and marketing.

Is the cost of living expenses in Cyprus?

No! Cyprus is one of the more affordable places to live. Even though it is located in a ‘developed’ country, its cost of living is substantially lower than many other European countries. The prices are also lower compared to neighboring countries like Greece or Turkey.

Is it expensive to get a work permit in Cyprus?

No! Getting a work permit is relatively easy in Cyprus. There are very few requirements for you to be eligible to apply for one. For instance, you must have at least €3000 in the bank and have made at least 5 job applications before applying for your permit. You can find more information here.

Conclusion

Living in Cyprus as a digital nomad may not be the first thing that comes to mind when people think of an adventurous life, but it is possible. Nomads are more likely to flock to Berlin or New York City. However,s the Mediterranean island offers unique working conditions for those looking for a slower-paced lifestyle.

Expat Taxes In Cyprus part 2 – Part one is here.

Benefits of Paying Tax in Cyprus

When it comes to paying taxes, there are a number of factors that need to be considered when deciding where to do so. For those looking for a tax-friendly destination, Cyprus is a great option. Here are seven benefits of paying tax in Cyprus.

Low Corporate Tax Rate

The corporate income tax in Cyprus is 12.50 percent, one of the lowest rates in Europe and much lower than other popular destinations for international companies such as Ireland (12.50 percent), Malta (17 percent), or Luxembourg (21.18 percent). That’s great news for those looking to start a business or expand an existing one.

The low tax rate also applies to individuals with a maximum income tax of 20 percent. In addition, Cyprus has a number of double taxation treaties with other countries, allowing companies to avoid paying taxes twice on the same income.

No Wealth or Inheritance Tax

Cyprus is one of the few countries in Europe that does not levy a wealth or inheritance tax. This is great news for those looking to pass on their assets to their heirs, as there will be no additional taxes levied on top of the sale price.

The only exception is real estate, which is subject to a transfer tax at the rate of either 20 percent or 12.50 percent, depending on how much you paid for it and other factors such as whether there is any mortgage on the property. There are no taxes on gifts given to family members, with only certain exceptions such as cash gifts over €12k per year being subject to taxation.

Tax-Free Dividends

Under the Cyprus tax system, companies are not required to pay taxes on their profits. Instead, shareholders who receive dividends from these companies must declare them as income and pay taxes accordingly.

This is a major benefit for investors, who can take advantage of this policy by investing in Cypriot businesses that distribute their earnings back to shareholders without paying taxes first. This means that investors can take advantage of the low tax rate in Cyprus by investing in Cypriot businesses and receiving dividends from them while paying no income taxes themselves.

No Tax on Foreign Income

If you’re a resident of Cyprus, any money earned outside the country is not subject to taxation. This means you can earn money from overseas without paying taxes back home or having to declare it as income in Cyprus.

This is just one of the many reasons expatriates choose Cyprus over other destinations as their home base. The only exception is if you’re earning income from a Cyprus-based company, in which case you will need to declare it and pay taxes on it.

Ease of Doing Business

Cyprus is well known for its friendly business environment and ease of doing business. The country ranks fourth in the world when it comes to the overall friendliness of its tax system, with a score of 95 out of 100 on the World Bank’s “ease of doing business” index.

This is great news for companies looking to start or expand their operations abroad because it means there won’t be any bureaucratic hurdles standing in the way of growth.

Access to European Markets

Cyprus is a member of the European Union, which gives companies based in Cyprus access to the 500 million consumers within the EU’s single market. This provides a number of opportunities for businesses looking to expand their operations into new markets.

Additionally, Cyprus is also a member of the Eurozone and uses the Euro as its currency. This makes doing business in Cyprus and Cypriot businesses much easier for companies based in other Eurozone countries.

The benefits of paying tax in Cyprus are clear, and it’s no wonder that the country is such a popular destination for businesses and investors alike. If you’re looking for a place to do business with a low tax rate and a friendly environment, Cyprus should be at the top of your list.

Access to Professional Services

Cyprus has a highly developed financial sector, with many banks and lawyers offering their services at competitive prices. The country also offers a number of tax incentives for businesses looking to establish themselves in Cyprus or expand an existing business there.

This makes it easier than ever before for companies worldwide to do business in Cyprus and take advantage of the country’s low tax rates.

Deductible Expenses & Exemptions for Expats in Cyprus

If you are an expat living in Cyprus, there are a few things you should know about tax deductions and exemptions. In general, you can claim a deduction for expenses related to earning income. This includes items such as.

The cost of equipment or tools used for work

Car expenses (e.g., petrol, maintenance and repairs)

Travel expenses (e.g., airfares, accommodation, and meals)

Clothing (if it is worn for work), e.g., uniforms and protective clothes – stationery or books used for your job

Education and training expenses that are closely connected to your current employment, e.g., tuition fees, textbooks, course materials

In addition to claiming deductions for work-related expenses, you may also be able to claim an exemption from income tax on certain allowances and benefits. For example:

The first €19,500 of your annual salary is exempt from income tax in Cyprus

Rental income is exempt from tax if you are a non-resident

Interest income is exempt from tax if you are a non-resident

Social Security Payments Options in Cyprus

In Cyprus, social security payments are made to not working residents. A contribution from employers and employees funds the system. In order to be eligible for benefits, you must have worked in Cyprus for at least 12 months.

The amount of social security payments you receive depends on your income and family status. There are four types of payments:

Benefits for children

Retirement benefits (old age)

Disability benefits (illness or accident)

Survivor’s pension (after the death of your spouse).

Benefits for Children

The social security system in Cyprus provides benefits for children up to 18. The amount that you receive depends on your income and family status. Benefits are paid until the child reaches the age of 18 or completes their compulsory education, whichever comes first.

If you are receiving benefits for your child, you will be required to provide proof of their age and nationality (i.e., birth certificate).

You must submit an application for benefits within six months of the date that they would have been born or adopted into your family. If you do not submit an application within this time frame, the benefits may be denied. You can apply for benefits online or at your local social security office.

Retirement Benefits

The social security system in Cyprus provides retirement benefits to residents who have reached the age of 65. The amount that you receive depends on your income and family status. Retirement benefits are paid until the recipient dies or reaches the age of 85, whichever comes first.

To be eligible for retirement benefits, you must have worked in Cyprus for at least 12 months. You must also have paid social security contributions for at least six of the last 12 months before you retire. Retirement benefits are usually paid in monthly installments, but they can be paid in a lump sum if the beneficiary prefers. You can apply for retirement benefits online or at your local social security office.

Disability Benefits

The social security system in Cyprus provides disability benefits to residents who are unable to work due to illness or accident. The amount that you receive depends on your income and family status. Disability benefits are paid until the recipient can return to work, dies, or reaches the age of 65 (whichever comes first).

To be eligible for disability benefits, you must have worked in Cyprus for at least 12 months. You must also have paid social security contributions for at least six of the last 12 months before you became disabled. Disability benefits are usually paid in monthly installments, but they can be paid in a lump sum if the beneficiary prefers.

You can apply for disability benefits online or at your local social security office. If you have a disability and need help with daily activities, then you may also be eligible for an additional payment called “disability allowance.” This is paid on top of any other benefits you receive from the government. You can apply for this benefit by contacting your local social security office.

Survivor’s Pension

The social security system in Cyprus provides benefits to the family of a deceased resident. The amount that you receive depends on your income and family status. Survivors’ pensions are paid until the recipient dies or reaches the age of 65 (whichever comes first).

To be eligible for survivor’s benefits, you must have worked in Cyprus for 12 months. You must also have paid social security contributions for at least six of the last 12 months before your spouse died. If you are receiving survivor’s benefits, you will be required to provide proof of your relationship to the deceased (e.g., marriage certificate). You can apply for survivor’s benefits online or at your local social security office.

Frequently Asked Questions about Expat Tax

Do I need to pay taxes as an expat in Cyprus?

If you are working and earning a salary, then yes. You will have to file your tax return even if you do not earn enough to incur any income tax from the government of Cyprus. The income tax is calculated as a percentage of your salary.

Do I have to pay taxes as a permanent resident?

If you earn more than €19,500 annually, then yes, your income will be taxed in Cyprus. If you earn less than this amount each year, then no – you do not need to pay any income tax. Permanent residents of Cyprus who receive other forms of income, such as rental income or dividends, are also liable to pay taxes on that income.

Conclusion

There are a number of tax considerations for expats living in Cyprus. That’s why it’s essential to understand the tax system before relocating to this part of the world. This will determine whether you must pay tax on worldwide income or just local income. For more information, refer to this platform to know what living in Cyprus entails.

Moving To Cyprus Expat Guide part 1 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Moving to Cyprus can be a wonderful experience if you’re looking to live in a new place where you get to know new cultures and habits. In order to become familiar with how it works, especially if this is going to be your first time moving away from home, you should find out as much information as possible about the place you are going to live in.

This article will give you a brief outline of moving to Cyprus as an expat and all the information to help you prepare for your stay on this beautiful Mediterranean island. The best way to learn about the country is, undoubtedly, experiencing it yourself. However, when moving from one place to another, there are always a few things that you can learn beforehand.

You can either do this by checking the update on our platform or talking to other expats. But, we recommend doing both since these are two different ways of gathering information that complement each other extremely well. Moreover, if you are moving to Cyprus with your family, you must adjust to the change at the same time.

It can be difficult enough for adults coming to a whole new continent, but children will, even more, help since this is completely new for them. We recommend beginners to start slowly and, after arriving in Cyprus, begin learning the language right away. This will help you adjust to your new life much more quickly and effectively.

Today, we will walk you through the pros and cons of moving to Cyprus. Not only is that, but we have compiled the things to know before relocating to this country and many other things, to mention a few. Are you ready to check what we have unleashed in this article?
There are many cultures and traditions in Cyprus, both during historical eras and today. Throughout the history of Cyprus, there have been many civilizations that came to this island. The first known civilization was the Alassa, who settled here in 3500 before Christ.

Since then, various civilizations conquered it but all were assimilated into the dominant Greek Cypriot culture. A lot of these cultures influenced the Greek Cypriot way of life, but some are still kept alive today. These traditions include folklore dances and songs, cooking, religious customs, and even games played during celebrations.

There are many types of folk dances in Cyprus which vary depending on the geographical location of each community. The most popular dance in Cyprus is the sousta performed in all regions. There are also many other folk dances, including the zeimbekiko, pentozali, and hasapiko, among others.

The most popular songs sung during celebrations are not actually folk songs but religious ones. Popular religious songs include; su oglia ke su prospathia (which is sung during weddings), su hariga ke su kyria (sung after funerals), and su latziatzia ke su esperinos (sung during the day before Easter).

Cyprus is also known for its tasty cuisine, which varies depending on the part of Cyprus you are visiting. Some traditional foods you might find in Cyprus are halloumi cheese, souvla (barbecue) meat, kolokasi (taro root), kleftiko cooked in a sealed clay pot, and even the traditional sheftalia, which is made from minced pork or beef.

Traditionally, during weddings it was the duty of the groom’s family to organize a dance for the guests. This dance was called Xero kleftis, meaning “empty the thief’s bag.” The event would last all night and end when everyone was tired or at dawn.

Moving to a new country is an exciting time, but it can be daunting if you don’t know what to expect. Luckily there are some things you should know before moving to Cyprus. From the island’s location and size to cultural traditions, read our list of 7 things you need to know about living in Cyprus.

Cyprus Is a Mediterranean Island

If you’re moving to Cyprus, you’ll be in good company; the island is popular with tourists and expats year-round. While the population of Cyprus is just over 1 million people, there are often many more visitors than residents on any given day.

As a Mediterranean island, temperatures throughout the year will typically range between highs of 17°C and lows of 9°C. Rainfall, which is heaviest in the winter months, can add moisture to an otherwise warm climate.

English Is the Most Widely Spoken Language

As a small island with large tourism industry, many Cypriots speak multiple languages, including Greek and Turkish; however, English is spoken in most places and by many people. This is a good thing for newcomers to Cyprus, as you’ll be able to navigate the island with ease when visiting areas where English isn’t spoken without any prior knowledge of the language.

The Country Moves to a Different Time zone in the summer

In addition to discussing time in terms of AM/PM, the 24-hour clock system is also used in Cyprus. This can be a bit confusing at first, but what might prove more confusing is that the country moves to Eastern European Time (EET) for eight months of the year. From April to October, you’ll need to set your watch forward one hour when entering or leaving the country.

There Are 12 Bank Holidays per Year

When planning to travel or work during bank holidays, be sure to check the date double. The 12 public holidays that occur each year are not consecutive, so if you need to take a day off, it is best to plan carefully as you won’t have much flexibility.

The Language of Cyprus Is Greek

The official language in Cyprus is Greek, but English and Turkish are widely spoken. Many buildings include English translations of important information such as hours of operation and prices, and road signs and other public postings will also be in all three languages.

Cyprus Is a Country of Contrasts

Cyprus is a country of contrasts, from the interior, which consists of lush green mountains and fertile plains, to its coastal areas that include beautiful beaches with bright blue water.

In addition to the travel differences between urban and rural areas, it is important to note that northern Cyprus has been under military occupation since 1974. While this does not affect most travel to the island, it is something that you should know if traveling between southern and northern Cyprus.

The Country Has Ample Wi-Fi Availability

Whether you’re looking to stay in touch with friends and family back home or just need internet access while on the go, Cyprus has plenty of options for wireless internet. Cafés will often advertise free Wi-Fi along with their other amenities, but this service is almost always limited to customers only.

Hotels offer fast internet access in rooms, and many restaurants will also have Wi-Fi services. If all else fails, you can find internet cafes or libraries where you can get online for a small fee.

Why Moving to Cyprus in 2022

Today’s world is filled with many great opportunities for work, study, and leisure. It is also filled with risks terrorism threats, to name one of them. This has led to increased residency applications from countries not part of the European Union (EU).

One such country is Cyprus. An EU member state stands out from the rest of the EU member states due to its inexpensive residency and citizenship programs. The benefits of these programs have led a large number of citizens from non-EU countries to consider relocation to Cyprus in order to gain all the benefits offered by being a citizen of an EU state.

This article will explore why it may be better to relocate to Cyprus in 2022.

1. Low Cost of Living

One of the most appealing aspects of living in Cyprus is its low cost of living. Compared to most other cities within the European Union, living in Cyprus is much lower. This is due to a number of reasons, including an inexpensive real estate market and low taxes.

2. Low Taxes

Another reason that many people are considering moving to Cyprus in the next few years is its low taxes. The value-added tax (VAT) rate of 17% is substantially lower than most other European Union member states, ranging from 20-25%. Furthermore, income taxation is only 10%, with no limits to the amount one earns before being taxed.

3. Citizenship by Investment Programs

Another reason why many individuals are considering moving to Cyprus is because of its citizenship through investment programs. The most popular of these programs is the Cypriot Investment Program (CIP). This program allows an individual to become a citizen of Cyprus and gain all the benefits that come with this, including visa-free travel access to over 160 countries and low tax rates. In order to participate in this program, a potential citizen must be able to invest at least two million Euros in the Cypriot economy and have access to fifteen million Euro.

4. The Ease of Obtaining a Residency Permit

Another reason why many individuals are considering relocating to Cyprus because it is fairly easy to get there on a legal residency permit. This is due to Cyprus’ easily accessible visa-free travel policies with over one hundred countries worldwide.

In order to be eligible for a Cypriot residency permit, an individual must simply have access to at least five thousand euros per month and invest a minimum of three hundred thousand Euros in a real estate purchase.

5. Expats Living in Cyprus is Rising

The final reason many individuals are considering relocating to Cyprus is that there has been an increase in the number of expats who live and work within the country’s borders. Most people who move to Cyprus either live or work due to having obtained a residency permit.

6. The Country’s Safe Location

In terms of its location, Cyprus is a very safe country to relocate to. In fact, it was ranked as the fourth safest country in the world by Forbes Magazine in 2016. This article will conclude with Reason number seven: Reason number seven: Cyprus’s beautiful weather on average 235 days a year.

7. The Beautiful Weather

Cyprus is a very safe country to move to. Furthermore, it has an excellent job market and many attractions for expats to enjoy. When discussing what makes Cyprus such an appealing place for expats, the most common response involves its weather which is said to have 235 days of sunshine on average per year.

Paralimni

There are many historical buildings that you can visit like Saint Barnabas Church, Saint Nicholas Church, etc. If you love outdoor activities, you can go cycling, hiking, or even snorkeling.

What Expats Need to Bring to Cyprus

Living abroad is a dream for many expats. In most cases, they are taking the first steps into uncharted territory as they relocate to another country with an entirely different culture and society than their own.

Such moves can be exciting but daunting, especially if one has to pack up and leave everything behind to set out into the unknown. Most expats will have a long checklist of preparations to make before they go. Most of these include banking, paperwork, and medical matters, but what about items for everyday life?

1. National Driving License

Expats moving to Cyprus from the UK will need to obtain a local driving license within six months from when they become a resident in Cyprus. This can be a daunting prospect for many. However, having a local driving license is much preferable to obtain an international driving permit (IDP) which is only valid for three months and doesn’t allow one to drive in other countries such as Greece.

To obtain a Cyprus Driving License, expats will need their UK license plus proof of address (utility bill or bank statement) and ID (passport). If the expat doesn’t have their UK license, they will have to apply for a learner’s permit by taking written, practical, and eye tests at the Department of Transport. The Driver Testing Centre issues Cyprus Driving Licenses in Dherynia.

2. Pet Medication and Documents

Owning a pet when moving abroad can be difficult for anyone, especially if one is relocating to another country. It will be necessary for expats to have access to their pets’ medication at all times in case of any eventuality. They will also need documentation, including vaccination records and their pet’s passport, which needs regular updating in accordance with international regulations.

3. A Good Book

It can be a difficult concept for expats, but there is a good chance that they will only have access to the English language in Cyprus. This means that signage, menus, and other everyday information may all be Greek, which can often feel like another world. When moving abroad, it’s always best to expect the unexpected and be aware that not everything will be familiar.

4. A Camera

Often the lifestyle in another country can feel like a dream for expats, but this is usually because it’s quite different from what they are used to at home. Being surrounded by new people and places every day is likely to make an expat want to document everything they are experiencing. A camera will be an essential item for anyone who wants to keep memories of this new life alive.

5. The Necessities

The last thing that an expat should pack when moving abroad is the essentials. Expats will need to bring all their everyday items, including toiletries, kitchen supplies, and other equipment that can’t be found in Cyprus, like spare light bulbs or disposable razors. It’s best to think of everything that one might require daily and then double it just in case.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cyprus

Why should I move to Cyprus?

There are many reasons why people might want to move to Cyprus. For example: – Great weather (for most of the year) – Relaxed lifestyle, slower pace than many other countries in Europe – Good physical and mental health outcomes for residents

How can I move to Cyprus?

There are several ways you might be able to move to Cyprus: – If you have a job in Cyprus, your employer will probably help you get a visa and settle in. You may also be able to apply for an EU Blue Card, which would make it easier to move from another EU country.

If you have enough money to support yourself (and your family if you are bringing them with you) until you find employment, self-employment or freelance work may be an option.

What’s the best place to live?

Nicosia, Larnaca, or Limassol. Nicosia is small, and it’s great for those who want to live a relaxed life. It’s good for singles who don’t mind that they can only go out on weekends or Halloween. For families, living in Larnaca and Limassol might be better: they’re less stressful, and they offer more entertainment.

Conclusion

When thinking about moving abroad, you may be wondering: is living in Cyprus right for me? Well, this article will help you decide whether or not you should consider moving to Cyprus. Therefore, refer to this guide to know if living in Cyprus is right for you.

Living In Cyprus As A Digital Nomad part 1 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Cyprus has plenty to offer the digital nomad and is a great place for those who work online to live. The island is full of history, with castles and tombs from ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian civilizations dotting the landscape; it’s also home to beautiful, sandy beaches along its coastline.

For those looking to establish their own business, Cyprus’ favorable tax policies make it especially attractive. The corporate tax rate is 12.5%, and the laws are relatively simple for starting a new company.

Cyprus also has great Internet connectivity, with modern fiber-optic connections that support high speeds available nearly everywhere on the island. The cost of living in Cyprus is much lower than in many other European countries, and those who do well financially as digital nomads can often live comfortably here for less than they would pay to rent one room in their home country.

Have you been surfing the web to understand why living in Cyprus as a digital nomad is worth it? Well, look no further, as we’ve got you covered on this platform. There are more things you won’t see on different blogs, but we’re going to tell you today.

In this article, you’ll understand some of the best places to live in Cyprus as a digital nomad. Not only is that, but we have come up with the pros and cons of living in Cyprus as a digital nomad. I’m sure; you might have been asking whether Cyprus has a good internet connection, right? Worry less, as we’ve got you covered with some of the best cafes in the country.

What Digital Nomad Need to Know About Cyprus

A small European island, Cyprus is located south of Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean sea. Its position means it has a milder climate than most surrounding countries.

This makes it an ideal location to live and work from for Americans, particularly those who are retired or at their home country’s retirement age. It also makes it a popular travel destination for Europeans, so it has so many digital nomad tourists.

Languages spoke: Greek, English

Currency: Euro

Religion: Orthodox 86%, other Christian 9% (Greek Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, and others), Muslim 7%

Electricity: 220V/50Hz (European plug)

Visa Requirements for Americans

Visa-free entry for Americans is not an official policy of Cyprus. However, it is possible to enter the country with a valid passport and receive a stamp upon arrival that allows you to stay for up to 3 months without applying for a separate visa.

The stamp is typically given in lieu of a specific entry visa at the point of entry for many nationalities, including Americans. This is based on the assumption that you will not overstay your 3 months because after the 3 months have expired, you will need to leave and can only return once again with an entry visa stamp in your passport.

Maximum Stay per Visit: 3 Months

Agreement between EU countries states that any country not in the EU but a separate customs union (such as Turkey) will honor another country’s entry visas.

This means that Americans can visit Cyprus from their home country and then freely enter EU countries without needing to apply for a separate visa. However, this only applies once every 6 months, so you will need to leave Cyprus and enter the EU again within 6 months.

Border Control

There is no border control between Cyprus and any other EU country. This means that you can freely travel to and from Cyprus and the rest of the European Union (except for Croatia, which is still pending membership) without needing to go through border controls. Americans typically do not need a visa or entry stamp to go into an EU country, as long as they remain within the 3 month stay time limit.

Taxes

No income or capital gains taxes (similar to nearby countries like Bulgaria and Romania). Also, there is no inheritance tax. The only taxes Americans will need to pay are purchasing luxury items (such as alcohol and cars).

Health insurance

Not required, but it can be very affordable for retirees who are over age 65 (the lowest monthly premium is $350 for an annual plan that covers health care, dental care, prescriptions, hospitalization, etc.). There’s also the option of getting travel insurance if you’re only visiting for a short time.

Pros and Cons of Living in Cyprus as a Digital Nomad

Digital nomads are usually people who work online and travel around the world, renting apartments for short-term stays in many countries. If you’ve never heard of this before, this article is about that lifestyle. However, if you’re thinking long and hard about whether or not it’s something for you, then that is what I am writing about.

Cyprus is a beautiful place, located in the Mediterranean next to Greece and Turkey. It’s known for being an extremely tourist-friendly country with fantastic weather all year round that makes a living there very comfortable. If you’re planning on moving there, here are the pros and cons of living in Cyprus as a digital nomad.

Pros

In this day and age, digital nomads are becoming increasingly popular. Many people from all over the world quit their jobs to travel around while doing work online. Cyprus is one of the best places in the world for digital nomads due to its warm weather, low cost of living, infrastructure, safety, and beautiful scenery. Here are 5 pros of living in Cyprus as a digital nomad.

1. Low Cost of Living

For anyone coming from an expensive country, the low cost of living in Cyprus is probably one of its most appealing features. Food and accommodation can be found very cheaply. For example, you could rent an apartment on Airbnb for as little as 11€/night or eat at a restaurant for 5€/meal. On average, an apartment in the center of Nicosia would cost 1000€/month.

2. The weather

Many digital nomads want to escape the cold weather during winter and live in a warmer climate instead. Cyprus is perfect with its warm winters, pleasant springs, and hot summers. In early summer, it can get as warm as 35 degrees Celsius, but even during colder months, temperatures are generally quite nice.

3. Infrastructure

The infrastructure in Cyprus is very good for a country of its size and age. Almost all cities and towns have free Wi-Fi available at various public places such as cafes, restaurants, and parks. We don’t want to go too much into detail here, so if you’re interested in this, you can check out the link below.

4. Safety

Cyprus is one of the safest countries in Europe, with crime rates far below average. You don’t have to worry about your safety during the day or night, and there are no areas that visitors should avoid. Moreover, there is no risk of natural or nuclear disasters as Cyprus is not located on a fault line.

5. Beautiful Scenery

Cyprus has some beautiful scenery, especially around the coast with clear blue waters and white sandy beaches. The mountain range around Troodos looks spectacular in any season, and with good weather, it’s a great place to go hiking. Besides, who wouldn’t want to live on a Mediterranean island?

6. Healthcare

For people living in more developed countries, it’s sometimes quite difficult to find good healthcare for a decent price. It can be even harder to travel outside your home country without proper insurance, so being able to access the same services as locals are convenient.

7. Language

Although English is widely spoken in Cyprus, people are still very welcoming if you try and speak some Greek. Learning a new language is also seen as a sign of respect, and we think it’s quite fun to meet people who can’t speak English and have to find other ways of communicating.

Cons

Safety

Living in Cyprus can be safe, but you always have to be aware of your surroundings and watch yourself. The Turkish occupation means that the island has been divided into two parts since 1974, so there are areas where it’s not very safe to walk around at night if you’re by yourself. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should never walk around alone, but it’s good to be cautious.

Scams and Tourist Traps

I’ve been living in Cyprus for almost a year now, and the number one thing that I hate is how many scams and tourist traps there are. Just like in any other country in the world, you have to watch out for people trying to take advantage of your ignorance about their currency or something else.

The difference between Cyprus and other countries is that it’s on the tourist trail, so there are more of these people on the streets than in some other places.

Low Salaries

While living in Cyprus might be cheaper than living somewhere like London, you’re not going to get paid very well for your work out here if you’re a digital nomad. If you’re extremely skilled and provide a very good service, you could make the same amount of money as if living in another EU country like Germany or Belgium.

Limited Job Opportunities for Digital Nomads

Even though there are a ton of coworking spaces in Cyprus, and this might lead you to believe that it’s a good place for self-employed people, the reality is quite different. There are some remote jobs available from international companies, but not many of them.

Expensive Internet

The most annoying problem with Cyprus as a place to live for digital nomads is definitely the cost of getting online. In many places in Europe, you can get a monthly internet plan that will last until the end of the month (or even longer). Out here, however, it’s rare to find unlimited internet that lasts more than 30 days.

With that being said, it’s also one of the safest places in Europe with a low crime rate. Despite the country’s division, it still remains a peaceful place to live. Whether you’ve been to Cyprus for a holiday or you’ve heard that it’s the ideal place, here is the best platform to confirm what you’ve heard to be true or false.

Moreover, Cyprus has become the first choice for many multi-national companies wishing to provide their business with an EU base. As a result, expats and locals have found it easy to secure jobs. In fact, employees of these companies can enjoy a working and personal life with many benefits in Cyprus.

As we all know that Cyprus is home to many beaches, there are plenty of things to do. It’s a small island nation located south of Turkey and just to the southeast of Greece. Again, Cyprus is the 3rd largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Sardinia and Sicily, in terms of area and population.

Now, it’s high time we disclose what we have for you. If you’ve been surfing the internet to get the right information about moving to Cyprus, look no further. In this article, we have compiled the reasons why moving to Cyprus will make your life better. Not only that, but we will walk you through some fun facts.

5 Reasons Why Cyprus Should Be On Your List

If you’re looking for a new expatriate destination, do keep in mind that Cyprus has numerous advantages. Of course, we understand that packing up to a new environment isn’t easy. Yet, expats who are settled in Cyprus will never forget the experience. Without further ado, let’s quickly check it out.

1. Warm Temperatures and Ample Weather

Since Cyprus enjoys a Mediterranean climate with blistering summers, its proximity to the equator influences the temperature and overall climate. Besides, people residing on the island experience close to 340 days of golden sunshine in a year.

Also, summer lasts for a minimum of 7 months in the country, and it starts in April and lasts until the end of October. The average daytime temperature is around 32 degrees Celsius during these months and might goes up to 40 degrees Celsius or more. But early summer temperatures are boosted by the hot wind.

2. History of Severe Conflict

From its inception, Cyprus has been plagued by a history of severe conflict between the Greeks and Turks. Yet, it still remains one of the safest European countries today. While instances of pretty theft are reported, the crime rate across this island is very low compared to other countries in the world. Meanwhile, female travelers should exercise the usual precautionary measures in any area.

3. Excellent Healthcare System

Whenever we’re talking about countries with the best healthcare system, Cyprus’s name shouldn’t be left aside. This is because; the healthcare system in the North and South of Cyprus is on par with international standards. Like in most other places, expats in Cyprus can choose between the private and public healthcare system.

Aside from this, the country’s national healthcare system offers free medical care at the point of delivery for all residents. Moreover, Cypriots on low incomes are even entitled to free or subsidized treatments. While Cyprus healthcare is excellent, you can find foreign residents that prefer to return to their home countries whenever they need to undergo major surgery.

4. Excellent Quality of Life and Relaxed Pace

If you’ve been planning to strike a balance between work and your personal life, Cyprus is the perfect place to be. Most expats here enjoy a higher standard of life as residents of this island since there’s a better climate, safety, healthcare system, and higher purchasing power than the global average.

Also, when it comes to the cost of living in this country, foreigners have different opinions. While some believe that the island is quite expensive, others think that almost everything is reasonably priced. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of EU Nationals, Asians, and Russians who have relocated to Cyprus.

5. An array of Incentives from Government

The real draws for a number of international luxury homeowners are the array of incentives, title deeds, and the opportunity to get an EU passport. According to the country’s law, anyone who spends over 183 days a year in Cyprus is entitled to become a tax resident. This means he/she has to pay an income tax to earn overseas and locally.

Not only that, but foreigners can easily purchase a house or buy land and build a home without disturbance. Meanwhile, the price of real estate is quite reasonable compared to the UK, the US, and many other nations.

What to Know Before Travelling to Cyprus

From what we’ve stated above, have you decided to spend your holiday in Cyprus? If that sounds like a YES, we’ve got you covered. Before you visit Cyprus, there are a few things to consider. This blog post includes all the useful information to make your dream trip as smooth as possible. Now, let’s check it out!

Visa Requirements to Cyprus

Visa requirements are one of the first things to consider if you’re relocating to any country. If you live in the EU, Canada, USA, Australia, or the United Kingdom, you don’t need a visa to visit Cyprus. However, if you’re a non-EU visitor, you need a passport valid for at least three months from the date of entry.

The fact you don’t need a visa makes traveling to Cyprus really easy in today’s twenty-first century. Meanwhile, if you plan on staying more than 90 days in the country, you have to get a registration certificate. You can check out this platform to understand more about the visa types in Cyprus.

Mythical Birthplace of Aphrodite

If you’re not aware, you should now keep in mind that Cyprus is the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and passion. Before the goddess reaches this status, the Aphrodite was a beautiful young girl who was born and lived on the island near Paphos, the capital city of western Cyprus.

Home to Patriarchal Society

Inhabitants of Cyprus are very religious. They are not only religious but also worship the Muslim faith, which means men hold most of the power positions and political positions in the country. A good example is when only males can become religious functionaries and run for political office in the country. On the other hand, women generally hold jobs of lesser status and are responsible for managing the house.

Currency in Cyprus

Cyprus currency widely in use and popularly known is the Euro. The majority of the locals adopted this as their official currency as of January 1, 2008, in a lie of the previously used Cypriot Pound. On the flip side, northern Cyprus uses its currency, known as the new Turkish lira. However, most banks across the country will provide an exchange for all major cash or traveler’s check currency, including Euros.

Driving Laws in the Country

You should always know that the driving laws in your country will definitely be different from another country. In Cyprus, they follow the British UK standard of keeping to the left-hand side of the road. Moreover, many North American travelers have outspokenly complained about the poor road quality and driving standards in the country as they’re dirt-covered and winding in nature.

Language Spoken in Cyprus

The official languages of Cyprus are Turkish and Greek, which is due to the border division of the country. While Greek is widely spoken in the southern portion of the island, Turkish is largely used in the northern part of the country. As a former British colony, English is also widely spoken in the country.

Dress Etiquette in Cyprus

Just like the dressing etiquette in your home country, the fashion jargon in Cyprus is quite similar to the western world. Attire in this country is similar to most European conventions. But when entering a sacred place in Cyprus, men are expected to wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts, while women are expected to wear long skirts and have their arms covered.

Cost of Living in Cyprus (2021)

If you’re considering a temporary or permanent move to this country or retiring, it’s always useful to know more about the cost of living in Cyprus. This ultimate guide covers all the basics, from accommodation, rents, transportation, healthcare, and education prices. We’ll also explain how you can make your money go further while living in Cyprus as an expat. So, let’s get you informed.

Aside from the rent, expat asking questions about living in Cyprus has become a common query. After all, it’s not just housing costs that you should consider, but also understand the cost of utilities, goods, services, and others. To give you an idea of what it entails, take a look at the average cost of living below.

Total Living Expenses

Average Cost

1 person, per month (Accommodation)

£680. 87

4 person, per month (Accommodation)

£2,200.98

Utilities, basic, for 85m2 apartment

£170.67

Average salaries for Accountant/Secretary

£16,700 and £10,800, respectively

Healthcare costs in the city

You can pay up to £15

Study Cost for Expats in Cyprus

When it comes to studying, there are a number of well-respected universities in Cyprus, including the largest university in Nicosia in the country. Aside from this, there are also three public higher institutions, including the outstanding University of Cyprus. However, the tuition fees to study in Cyprus vary depending on the institution and your course of study. But to give you an idea, it cost up to £7,500 a year. On the flip side, you can also get a lower fee if you’re on a scholarship in any university.

Pros and Cons of Living in Cyprus

While there are pros and cons of living in a country, Cyprus is no exception. Some of these pros and cons may not be visible immediately when you arrive in the country but sooner or later, you’ll get to know it right. So, here’s a list of pros and cons of living in this country, as stated by expats living in Cyprus for years.

Pros

Beautiful Island and Nature

To give you a head start about what living in Cyprus means, beautiful nature is one thing that attracts visitors to the country. Also, you’ll enjoy a pleasant Mediterranean climate of long dry summers and mild winter. Meanwhile, rain occurs mainly in the winter, and snow is possible only in the mountain.

A Glorious Expat Community

Apart from the fact that this country has a unique cultural etiquette, Cyprus has joined the United Nations since 1960. And being a British Colony before its independence has resulted in many British people living on the island until today. Moreover, a great number of expats come from Eastern European countries, Russia, and America.

Excellent Infrastructural System

Another benefit of living in Cyprus is the excellent infrastructural system. The country is reputable for its excellent road system, road signs, international airports, and the two greatest ports located in Limassol and Larnaca. Not only have that, but Cyprus offers excellent telecommunication services with topped notch mobile and internet facilities at high-speed services.

Competitive Tax System

Cyprus, in no doubt, has a competitive tax system taken into consideration all EU and international regulations for inhabitants. For an individual taxpayer in Cyprus, you shall be entitled to a gift or remuneration from the government if your tax is up to date. Meanwhile, non-tax residents are taxed on income derived from sources in the country.

Safe and Comfortable Lifestyle

Research has made it known that Cyprus is ranked to be among the countries with the lowest crime rate. Additionally, there are no places where it is not recommended to purchase the property. And there are no steel entrance doors, while fencing in the country is usually limited to 1.2m in height.

Again, there’s no democracy and order in this country as their life is wrapped around by the spirit of openness and lightness, opposite to the heavy spirit of pedantry and life according to the rules. In contrast to residents of many countries, Cyprus historically welcomes foreigners. And nearly all the citizens of Cyprus speak English at a high level, and they love to marry foreigners.

High Standard of Living in Cyprus

A high standard of living also constitutes one of the reasons to live in this country as an expat. With the excellent infrastructural facilities and unique healthcare system, the benefits of this country cannot be overemphasized. Moreover, the average lifetime here is 78 years by men and 81 years by women.

Ease of Immigration in Cyprus

The immigration process in Cyprus as of 2021 is extremely liberal. Even with the advent of the global coronavirus pandemic, expats that adhere to rule rules and travel guides find it easy to relocate to the country. Provided that you meet the stated rules and requirements, terms of obtaining a residence permit are within 2 months in this country.

Cons

Low Employee’s Benefits

When you compare the salary in this country with other countries in the western world, you’ll definitely see a huge difference. This is because; Cyprus offers low salaries, and if you’re a Non-European and Non-Cypriot citizen, you’re likely to earn 5 Euros per hour for a part-time job. More so, if your company doesn’t offer you accommodation and food, your full-time job may not allow you to save money.

Fewer Job Opportunities

If you’re relocating to Cyprus, be sure that you’re good enough in a skill to avoid joblessness in the country. This is to tell you that there are fewer job opportunities in Cyprus compared to other European countries. Moreover, most of their products are imported from other countries because they rely on agriculture and tourism.

Lack of Shopping Options

While Cyprus remains a country that’s increasing in its market, there are still significant differences between the shopping options in this country compared to other places. Luckily for expats, there’s always the option for purchasing online. But, if you’re not used to this system, it could be hard to withstand.

Low Welfare Benefits

Even with the amount of tax being paid by residents, we discovered that there are low welfare benefits in the country. In addition, it may not necessarily mean the reason for your relocation, but it is worth considering this factor before moving. Again, the social welfare benefits are not high, and it could even take years for you to qualify for anyone.

Buying Property Can be Challenging

If you’re unable to meet the right agent, buying property in Cyprus can be challenging. This is due to the fact that there are many potential pitfalls that you can easily avoid while buying property. Also, most complaints are usually building quality and hidden unforeseen expenses after buying a property.

Best Areas Suitable for Expats in Cyprus

If you’re looking for a vibrant way of life in Cyprus, why not consider moving to the Southern part? Well, you might be wondering where in the Southern part is the best, right.
