<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-to-bring-when-moving-to-the-algarve">What to Bring When Moving to the Algarve</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="612" height="408" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-964975106-612x612-1.jpg" alt="Moving To The Algarve Expat Guide" class="wp-image-9202" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-964975106-612x612-1.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-964975106-612x612-1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></figure>

<p>When moving to a new country, there are a few essentials you&#8217;ll need to bring with you. Here are seven items that will make your transition to the Algarve smoother. Without further ado, check it out below!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="a-valid-passport-and-visa">A Valid Passport and Visa</h3>

<p>If you&#8217;re not a citizen of an EU country, you&#8217;ll need a valid passport and visa in order to reside in the Algarve. Make sure to apply for your visa in advance of your move, as the process can take several weeks. In fact, the sooner you apply, the better. If your passport is expiring soon, renew it before applying for a visa to avoid having to start the process over again.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="a-pair-of-sturdy-walking-shoes">A Pair of Sturdy Walking Shoes</h3>

<p>The Algarve has a lot of beautiful nature and coastlines perfect for hiking. You&#8217;ll want to bring at least one good pair of walking shoes to explore all that the region has to offer. Moreover, the Algarve is a very hilly area, and you&#8217;ll be doing plenty of walking while living in the region.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="current-medications-and-prescriptions">Current Medications and Prescriptions</h3>

<p>If you&#8217;re on any regular medication or prescription drugs, bring a complete list with all details of what they are and why you take them. You should also bring enough to last a few months, as it may take some time to get prescriptions filled in Portugal. Meanwhile, make sure to have a copy of your prescriptions if you need them while traveling.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="sunscreen-and-insect-repellent">Sunscreen and Insect Repellent</h3>

<p>The Algarve is known for its beautiful beaches and sunny weather. However, the sun can be quite strong, so make sure to pack plenty of sunscreens. In addition, Portugal is home to a number of insects, including mosquitoes, so it&#8217;s a good idea to bring along some insect repellent.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="a-portuguese-phrasebook-and-dictionary">A Portuguese Phrasebook and Dictionary</h3>

<p>Portugal is a country with two official languages: Portuguese and Spanish. While most people in the Algarve speak Portuguese, knowing a few words of Spanish can come in handy. A Portuguese phrasebook and dictionary are essential for learning the language and making your way around the region.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="sunscreen">Sunscreen</h3>

<p>The Algarve is known for its sunny weather, so don&#8217;t forget to pack your sunscreen. The sun can be especially strong here, so make sure you lather up before heading outdoors. Also, the Algarve is home to a number of mosquitoes, so it&#8217;s a good idea to pack some insect repellent.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="a-swimsuit">A swimsuit&nbsp;</h3>

<p>The Algarve is known for its beautiful beaches and coastline, so make sure to pack your swimsuit. This way, you&#8217;ll be able to enjoy plenty of swimming and sunbathing while living here. Moreover, the Algarve is a hilly region, so you&#8217;ll be doing plenty of walking while living here. So bring your walking shoes too.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="things-people-won-t-tell-you-about-moving-to-the-algarve">Things People Won’t Tell You about Moving To the Algarve</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2c86be6-1-1024x576.jpg" alt="Moving To The Algarve Expat Guide" class="wp-image-9203" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2c86be6-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2c86be6-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2c86be6-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2c86be6-1-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2c86be6-1-2048x1152.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>If you&#8217;re considering moving to the Algarve, there are a few things you should know before making a move. Here are five things people won&#8217;t tell you about moving to the Algarve.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-weather-can-be-unpredictable">The Weather Can Be Unpredictable</h3>

<p>The Algarve is known for its sunny weather, but it&#8217;s not always guaranteed. The weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for rain and wind. In fact, the Algarve has more rainfall than any other region in Portugal.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-cost-of-living-is-high">The Cost Of Living Is High</h3>

<p>Compared to other parts of Portugal, the cost of living in the Algarve is quite high. Expect to pay more for groceries, restaurants, and utilities. Another thing people won&#8217;t tell you about moving to the Algarve because you&#8217;ll need to budget carefully. Also, be prepared to pay more for housing.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="there-are-many-tourists-in-the-summer-months">There Are Many Tourists in the Summer Months</h3>

<p>The Algarve is a popular tourist destination, so expect it to be crowded during the summer months. The beaches can get pretty packed, and you may have trouble finding parking. Be prepared for long lines at restaurants, and make reservations ahead of time if you want to be sure you&#8217;ll get a table.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Lagos-old-town-Algarve-1024x683-1.jpg" alt="Moving To The Algarve Expat Guide" class="wp-image-9207" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Lagos-old-town-Algarve-1024x683-1.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Lagos-old-town-Algarve-1024x683-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Lagos-old-town-Algarve-1024x683-1-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="you-may-have-trouble-finding-the-right-job">You May Have Trouble Finding the Right Job</h3>

<p>Even though many tourists in the Algarve during the summer months, it can still be difficult to find work. Many restaurants and shops hire people on a seasonal basis, so they don&#8217;t always have full-time positions available year-round. If you&#8217;re looking for a job in the Algarve, be prepared to do some networking and be patient.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-language-barrier-can-be-difficult">The Language Barrier Can Be Difficult</h3>

<p>If you don&#8217;t speak Portuguese, you may find it difficult to communicate with locals in the Algarve. Many people in the region don&#8217;t speak English, so learning a little Portuguese will definitely come in handy. Moreover, be prepared for a slower-paced lifestyle. The Algarve isn&#8217;t as fast-paced as other parts of Portugal, so you&#8217;ll need to adjust to the slower pace.</p>

<p>Moving To The Algarve Expat Guide part 1 &#8211; that will be the topic of today’s article.</p>

<p>Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me&nbsp;<a href="https://adamfayed.com/expats-lets-talk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="introduction"><strong>Introduction</strong></h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="767" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1578795847-smaller-1024x767.jpg" alt="Moving To The Algarve Expat Guide" class="wp-image-9183" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1578795847-smaller-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1578795847-smaller-300x225.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1578795847-smaller-768x576.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1578795847-smaller-1536x1151.jpg 1536w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1578795847-smaller.jpg 1772w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>If you&#8217;re moving to the Algarve, you can expect a warm climate, beautiful scenery, and a laid-back lifestyle. The Algarve is one of <a href="https://expats.adamfayed.com/living-in-portugal-as-an-expat/" data-type="post" data-id="3896">Portugal</a>&#8216;s most popular tourist destinations, and it&#8217;s not hard to see why. With its stunning coastline, crystal-clear waters, and charming villages, the Algarve is a wonderful place to call home.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re moving to the Algarve, there are a few things you&#8217;ll need to know. The first thing to remember is that the Algarve is a popular destination for tourists so that it can be quite expensive. You&#8217;ll also need to ensure that you have a good grasp of the Portuguese language, as locals will often speak it fluently.</p>

<p>Next, you&#8217;ll want to know how much it costs to live in this area. There are many different areas within the Algarve, and each one has its own unique characteristics. You may want to spend some time looking at the different areas to find out which one will suit your needs best.</p>

<p>Once you&#8217;ve decided on an area, it&#8217;s time to consider what type of accommodation you&#8217;ll be looking for. There are plenty of hotels and guest houses in the Algarve, but if you&#8217;d prefer a more permanent residence, there are also many apartments and villas for rent.</p>

<p>However, it&#8217;s important to remember that the Algarve is a very diverse region, with something to offer everyone. Whether you&#8217;re looking for a quiet village lifestyle or a bustling city atmosphere, you&#8217;ll be able to find it in the Algarve. So if you&#8217;re thinking of making a move, why not look into moving to the Algarve expat guide?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="why-moving-to-the-algarve-in-2022">Why Moving to the Algarve in 2022</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1212531095-612x612-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-9186" width="648" height="427" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1212531095-612x612-1.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1212531095-612x612-1-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px" /></figure>

<p>There are many reasons someone might choose to move to the Algarve in 2022. Perhaps you’re looking for a change in scenery, or maybe you need to relocate for work or family reasons. Whatever your motivation, here are five great reasons why moving to the Algarve in 2022 is a fantastic idea!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-weather">The Weather</h3>

<p>The Algarve is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest regions in Portugal. In fact, it’s so sunny that there are more hours spent outside than inside! This means you can enjoy all your favorite outdoor activities without having to worry about rain or snow getting in the way.</p>

<p>You’ll never be bored either, as there are many things to do in and around this beautiful region. From surfing at Praia da Rocha beach to hiking through some of Europe’s most stunning countryside (with views that will take your breath away). You could even visit one of Portugal’s many vineyards for some wine tasting.</p>

<p>There are also plenty of great restaurants serving delicious food from around the world. Plus, there are many bars and clubs where you can let loose after work – or just sit back with friends over beers at one of the beach shacks. And if you’re not into partying so much, there’s still plenty to do.</p>

<p>The Algarve is home to many cultural events, including music festivals like Primavera Sound and Pint of Science (every year). And if you want something a little more educational, then why not head over to the Museu de Arte Contemporanea de Algarve?</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-cost-of-living">The Cost Of Living</h3>

<p>The Algarve is a very popular destination for expats, and with good reason – it’s affordable. In fact, Portugal is one of the most affordable countries in Europe. You can get by on a relatively small budget, which is great news if you’re looking to save money.</p>

<p>Basics like food, accommodation, and transportation are all very reasonable compared to other European destinations. And with the weak euro, now is a great time to move to Portugal.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-beaches">The Beaches</h3>

<p>The Algarve is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. And there’s no shortage of them either. With over 100 kilometers (60 miles) worth on offer, you’ll never run out of things do. In fact, many people visit for just this reason alone and never leave once they arrive.</p>

<p>The beaches are well known for their soft sand, clear waters, and rocky cliffs. And if you’re looking for a bit of privacy, there are plenty of secluded spots to be found. Just make sure you take sunscreen with you – the Algarve sun is not one to be messed with.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/ferragudo-4379677_1280-1024x682.jpg" alt="Moving To The Algarve Expat Guide" class="wp-image-9184" width="843" height="561" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/ferragudo-4379677_1280-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/ferragudo-4379677_1280-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/ferragudo-4379677_1280-768x512.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/ferragudo-4379677_1280.jpg 1280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-culture">The Culture</h3>

<p>Portugal is a culturally rich country with a lot to offer. From its delicious food and wine to its vibrant music and art scene, there’s always something new to discover. The locals are also very friendly and welcoming, making it easy for foreigners to feel at home.</p>

<p>You can experience Portugal’s culture first-hand by visiting some of its many historic towns and cities. Or, if you want to get a little more off the beaten path, why not explore some of its smaller villages? There’s always something new to learn – and taste.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-healthcare">The Healthcare</h3>

<p>Portugal has an excellent healthcare system with many world-class hospitals and doctors. If you need medical treatment, there will likely be a hospital nearby. And if not, then don’t worry – most clinics offer 24/hours emergency service, so help is never far away.</p>

<p>The cost of living in Portugal is also very affordable, so you won’t have to worry about breaking the bank when you need medical treatment. Besides, the Algarve is an amazing place to live, and you won’t regret it. It has everything that a person could want in life.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="sports-and-leisure">Sports and Leisure</h3>

<p>The Algarve is a very active region, and there are many sports on offer. You can play tennis or golf at any local clubs, go for a hike in one of the national parks (Monchique), or even try your hand at surfing.</p>

<p>There’s also plenty to do if you’re more of a spectator. Several football teams play at the Estadio de Algarve, as well as rugby matches during the season (the Portimao Pirates). And if you love horse racing, don’t miss out on the Vilamoura International Festival of Equestrian Sport.</p>

<p>You can also take advantage of the wide variety of water sports available. From windsurfing and kite surfing to sailing and snorkeling, there’s something for everyone here.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="stable-economic-and-stable-environment">Stable Economic and Stable Environment</h3>

<p>The Algarve is a very stable region with low unemployment rates. You won’t have to worry about your job or career being affected by political turmoil since Portugal has been largely unaffected by the recent economic crisis in Europe. The average salary here is around €35,000 per year, which isn’t bad considering how expensive other European destinations can be.</p>

<p>In addition, Portugal is a member of the EU and uses the euro as its currency. This makes it easy to travel in and out of the country, as well as to do business with other Europeans. So if you’re looking for a stable and affordable place to live, the Algarve is worth considering.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="transportation-is-cheap-and-readily-available">Transportation Is Cheap and Readily Available</h3>

<p>Public transport like bus and train systems are extremely good (in some countries), making it incredibly easy to get around. Anyone interested in seeing the entire country by bus or train will get their wish, as long as they are willing to spend some time on the road!</p>

<p>Conversely, owning a vehicle is incredibly cheap. For example, if you wanted to buy a decent-sized car in South Africa, the chances are that it would only cost about 8 000 USD, which is on par with buying a car in the states. Even if you wanted to repurchase a small hatch, it would still only cost about 3 000 USD.</p>

<p>Transportation costs are also low compared to western values; for example, getting around by taxi will only cost about $1 0 per trip on local trips and maybe $4 on longer trips.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="no-real-health-concerns">No Real Health Concerns</h3>

<p>Africa is a very healthy continent overall, but there are some risks like malaria and bilharzia (found in some parts of the Nile River). However, these risks can be managed by taking precautions like sleeping under mosquito nets, wearing long sleeves, and using mosquito repellent.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="people-are-incredibly-friendly">People Are Incredibly Friendly</h3>

<p>Africans are also very friendly people who will go out of their way to help you if they see that you&#8217;re in need. This is especially true if it&#8217;s something small like taxi directions or advice. I&#8217;ve never once been refused help by a local person.</p>

<p>In addition to this, if you&#8217;re out drinking with Africans, they will buy rounds of drinks for everyone in the bar without hesitation.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="high-chance-of-seeing-wild-life">High Chance of Seeing Wild Life</h3>

<p>Africa is also one of the best places to see animals in their natural habitat in all their glory. For example, in South Africa, there are numerous safari opportunities to see lions, elephants, leopards, and even rhinos. These experiences will be a memory to last a lifetime!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="622" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Dawn-Africa-Sunset-Mammal-Silhouette-African-3077635.jpg" alt="Best Cities For Expats In Africa" class="wp-image-8559" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Dawn-Africa-Sunset-Mammal-Silhouette-African-3077635.jpg 960w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Dawn-Africa-Sunset-Mammal-Silhouette-African-3077635-300x194.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Dawn-Africa-Sunset-Mammal-Silhouette-African-3077635-768x498.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-food-is-delicious">The Food Is Delicious</h3>

<p>I have yet to meet a cuisine I didn&#8217;t like in Africa so far! African cooking varies from place to place, but some mainstays are pretty common. One of these is Ugali, which I would describe as the African version of mashed potatoes mixed with flour and salt, which can be eaten plain or rolled up into small balls to pick up sauces.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s definitely an interesting taste, but you get used to it very quickly! For me, it tastes quite mild compared to the spices and chilis that are used in cooking. Another staple is &#8216;fufu,&#8217; which is also made from flour, but instead of being cooked like a dumpling, it&#8217;s soaked in water to form a doughy ball.</p>

<p>It doesn&#8217;t have much taste on its own, so if you&#8217;re looking for something bland, then fufu is perfect. If you ever come to South Africa, I would recommend checking out the famous bunny chow! This is a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with curry and can be found in most townships across the country.</p>

<p>It might seem like an odd thing, but it&#8217;s incredibly delicious! A national dish of South Africa is &#8216;bobotie,&#8217; a dish made from spiced mince, and it&#8217;s delicious too.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-weather-isn-t-bad">The Weather Isn&#8217;t Bad</h3>

<p>Depending on where you are in Africa, the weather can be quite mild. For example, South Africa has four main seasons, but it&#8217;s never too cold or hot. If anything, it&#8217;s usually too wet or dry! However, for those who love snow, then there is always skiing nearby (in places like Lesotho and Swaziland), just a few hours away from Cape Town.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="great-place-to-make-friends">Great Place to Make Friends</h3>

<p>By living in Africa for a year, I have made some amazing friends worldwide who will be friends for life. This is because many people come here on gap years, internships, or even visits when they are younger, and it&#8217;s an amazing way to meet new and interesting people.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="there-is-always-something-happening">There Is Always Something Happening</h3>

<p>Africa is an incredibly fast-paced continent where there are always things going on. Whether it&#8217;s a festival in the Tanzanian islands, a sports match in Cape Town, or even just watching locals party out in the township; there will always be something to do.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="684" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1206074506-1024x684.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8561" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1206074506-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1206074506-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1206074506-768x513.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/shutterstock_1206074506.jpg 1498w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over One million Locations: Central Africa, Rwanda</p>

<p>Kigali is the capital of Rwanda. It&#8217;s a fast-growing city known for its safe streets and stable economy. Expats who live in Kigali tend to praise the security it offers as well as the low cost of living—the average rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $650/month.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="3-dar-es-salaam">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Dar es Salaam</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="575" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tanzanie-dar-es-salaam_498-1024x575.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8562" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tanzanie-dar-es-salaam_498-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tanzanie-dar-es-salaam_498-300x168.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tanzanie-dar-es-salaam_498-768x431.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tanzanie-dar-es-salaam_498.jpg 1366w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanzania, and it&#8217;s known for its high crime rate, so this might not be the best choice if you&#8217;re looking to live somewhere safe. However, there are some good reasons to move here. The Tanzanian government is trying to improve the city by building new infrastructure and offering more tourism attractions, so it&#8217;s definitely worth considering if you want to live in Africa.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="4-cairo">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cairo</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2arfa9p-e1626097935362-1024x576.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8563" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2arfa9p-e1626097935362-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2arfa9p-e1626097935362-300x169.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2arfa9p-e1626097935362-768x432.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2arfa9p-e1626097935362-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/2arfa9p-e1626097935362.jpg 1990w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 16 million Locations: Northern Africa, Egypt</p>

<p>Even though Cairo is pretty hot and crowded, there are still some opportunities for expats here. If you&#8217;re a business professional who wants to take their career to the next level and explore new things, this might be an ideal place for you. Plus, there are several universities within the city to continue your education.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="5-windhoek">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Windhoek</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="768" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/namibia-windhoek-evangelical-lutheran-church-christ-church-AMF004244-1024x768.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8564" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/namibia-windhoek-evangelical-lutheran-church-christ-church-AMF004244-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/namibia-windhoek-evangelical-lutheran-church-christ-church-AMF004244-300x225.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/namibia-windhoek-evangelical-lutheran-church-christ-church-AMF004244-768x576.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/namibia-windhoek-evangelical-lutheran-church-christ-church-AMF004244.jpg 1232w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 300,000 Locations: Southern Africa, Namibia</p>

<p>Windhoek is the capital of Namibia—a place known for its wide-open spaces and desert landscapes. Expats here enjoy living in a city that still feels like a small town. Windhoek has an international airport and a developing tourism industry, so it&#8217;s a good place if you want to explore Africa while still being comfortable.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="6-accra">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Accra</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="768" height="514" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/imago0087804730w.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8565" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/imago0087804730w.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/imago0087804730w-300x201.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 2 million Locations: West Africa, Ghana</p>

<p>The capital of Ghana is known for its high crime rate and traffic congestion, but it&#8217;s also a great city if you&#8217;re looking to do some volunteer work. Expats here really like the fact that there are several bars and nightclubs, but be careful because fights can break out frequently (or there could be a kidnapping if you&#8217;re walking on your own late at night).</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="7-kampala">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Kampala</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="575" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/kampala_19-1024x575.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8566" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/kampala_19-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/kampala_19-300x168.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/kampala_19-768x431.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/kampala_19.jpg 1367w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 2 million Locations: East Africa, Uganda</p>

<p>If you love to travel and want to experience different cultures, Kampala might be your best bet as one of the top cities for expats in Africa. Living here is pretty cheap, but you have to be careful with the crime. There are certain areas where expats tend to avoid going after dark, making life a bit difficult at times.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="8-lagos">8.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Lagos</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="682" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/standard_compressed_Ikoyi__Lagos__Nigeria_1_-1024x682.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8567" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/standard_compressed_Ikoyi__Lagos__Nigeria_1_-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/standard_compressed_Ikoyi__Lagos__Nigeria_1_-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/standard_compressed_Ikoyi__Lagos__Nigeria_1_-768x511.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/standard_compressed_Ikoyi__Lagos__Nigeria_1_.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 22 million Locations: West Africa, Nigeria</p>

<p>Lagos is known as one of the most densely populated cities in the world, so it might not be the best choice if you&#8217;re looking to escape from a big city lifestyle. Expats here praise Lagos for its rich culture and vibrant nightlife, but at the same time, they complain about how many people are trying to scam them.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="9-cape-town">9.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cape Town</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/c42pmn-e1618565867813-1024x576.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8568" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/c42pmn-e1618565867813-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/c42pmn-e1618565867813-300x169.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/c42pmn-e1618565867813-768x432.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/c42pmn-e1618565867813-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/c42pmn-e1618565867813-2048x1152.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 4 million Locations: Southern Africa, South Africa</p>

<p>Living in Cape Town is not for everyone because it&#8217;s known as one of the most expensive cities in Africa, so you might have trouble making friends if you don&#8217;t have a big salary. That being said, it&#8217;s not hard to find job opportunities here because the economy is doing so well. The city also has a lot of great beaches and hiking trails if you&#8217;re looking to get some fresh air.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="10-windhoek">10. Windhoek</h3>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="11-addis-ababa">11. Addis Ababa</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/AddisView-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8570" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/AddisView-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/AddisView-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/AddisView-768x512.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/AddisView-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/AddisView.jpg 2048w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 3 million Locations: East Africa, Ethiopia</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re looking for an exciting place where you can make a difference and help others, Addis Ababa might be the right choice. Expats here value the beauty of the Ethiopian culture and their experiences learning new languages (many locals speak at least three different languages). There aren&#8217;t many bars or nightclubs, but there are several malls and things to do if you&#8217;re looking for an entertaining night out.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="12-algiers">12. Algiers</h3>

<p>Population: Over 3 million Locations: Northern Africa, Algeria</p>

<p>If you want to live in North Africa but don&#8217;t like Morocco (Algiers is right next door), the city of Algiers might be a good choice. Expats praise how easy it is to travel to other places around the continent from here because there are often cheap flights from Algiers. It&#8217;s a pretty safe city too, but the only downside is that it can get boring at times.</p>

<p>If you want to live in Africa but are looking for a different experience than other expats, Asmara might be the best choice. It&#8217;s known as one of the safest cities on the continent, and there are also many job opportunities for expats who have the right skills.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="14-lusaka">14. Lusaka</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/lusaka_273-1024x517.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8573" width="854" height="431" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/lusaka_273-1024x517.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/lusaka_273-300x152.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/lusaka_273-768x388.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/lusaka_273.jpg 1441w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 854px) 100vw, 854px" /></figure>

<p>Population: Over 1 million Locations: Southern Africa, Zambia </p>

<p>Living in Lusaka is pretty cheap, and the city has a vibrant culture, so it could be a good choice if you want to experience living in Africa without spending too much money. Expats here complain about how often they get sick because the roads can be poorly maintained and there is a lot of air pollution.</p>
