What are the best international schools in Cambodia? – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Cambodia is one of the most interesting countries in Southeast Asia. Cambodia is an attractive holiday destination and unexplored field for potential investors.

Among other positive factors, Cambodia also enjoys a convenient geographical position: located in the center of Southeast Asia, halfway between China and India, Cambodia is located directly between two larger and more developed countries (Thailand and Vietnam).

Cambodia has about five hundred kilometers of coastline and more than fifty islands, making it a very convenient place for investment. The stable situation in the economic and political aspect of Cambodian reality gives guarantees of business security. The mild tropical climate allows you to be in the sector of commercial projects all year round.

Cambodia today is one of the most promising countries in the Southeast region. The capital of the country, Phnom Penh, is a modern multi-million dollar metropolis with many fashionable stores, jewelry stores and hotels that can satisfy all the needs of even a very capricious client.

At the same time, the city retains its colonial charm. French influence can still be seen in Cambodia’s architecture and lifestyle. French bakeries will surprise you with fresh pastries, while wine bars offer a variety of drinks.

Cambodia among the countries of Indochina, including Thailand, accepts foreigners more easily, freely and friendly. While Thailand and Vietnam remain the focus of their economies and large populations, Cambodia is attractive to small and medium-sized investors thanks to the revival and development of the domestic consumer market.

Add to that the friendly population and you have a wonderful country, where, among other things, it is quite easy to get citizenship.

Most emigrants do not even suspect that in Cambodia, along with the local currency – the riel – American dollars are freely used. Cambodia is the only Asian country whose economy uses dollars.

The country’s banks are very reliable and highly regulated. Depending on the bank, a dollar account can bring in from 5.5% to 7% of income annually. Real estate and private lending markets are very attractive for businessmen and investors.

Small loans operate outside banks and are completely private. Interest rates range from 3% to 10% per month or from 36 to 120% per annum, which, along with a low crime rate, makes the country extremely attractive for investors.

Cambodia’s economy has been striking in its rapid growth in recent years. 2018 showed an annual GDP growth of 7.5%. This places Cambodia in the top ten countries with the highest average annual GDP growth. This is largely due to investments in construction, agriculture and tourism.

Economically, the country is a rebellious phoenix: foreign direct investment is growing every year. Cambodia is now becoming a priority choice among Asian countries for manufacturing companies. In particular, Cambodia’s light industry has grown by 20% over the past 12 months.

The low cost of land, labor and raw materials gives Cambodia real economic advantages over traditional manufacturing centers. Today Cambodia is ahead of Taiwan, Vietnam and even China in terms of these indicators.

International schools in Cambodia

Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, is undergoing rapid transformation. As in many developing countries in Asia, the middle class is growing and there are now many job opportunities overseas. Add to that the low cost of living and the wide selection of international schools and you have a recipe for an expatriate family paradise.

The educational level in Cambodia’s public schools is low compared to global standards. Teaching is in Khmer, which is a major obstacle for most non-indigenous people, and emigrant children are usually not allowed to attend public schools. Thus, an international school is the preferred option for the vast majority of expats in Phnom Penh.

Before you start to panic about how much an international school in Asia will cost you, know this: Phnom Penh is considered the cheapest city in Asia for international education. The capital of Cambodia has a very good value for money, especially when compared to other Asian capitals such as Beijing, Seoul or Singapore. The standards and amenities offered are also getting better and better.

In recent years, the number of international schools in Phnom Penh has increased dramatically. Most of Cambodia’s international schools are located in the capital, so there is no better city to live in if learning is a priority. International schools are scattered throughout Phnom Penh in almost every central area.

While the number of international schools in Phnom Penh is growing rapidly, keep in mind that some are more legitimate than others. Each school calls itself international, but don’t let that fool you. Some lack globally recognized accreditation and their educational standards may not meet your expectations. Always do your research and, if possible, arrange for school visits and staff meetings.

Phnom Penh has a slightly smaller choice of international schools for senior and secondary school children. Expect higher demand and more competition. If your child is 12 or older, you should start looking for a school and apply as early as possible.

If your child has additional educational needs or needs help learning, you may have problems; In this area, Cambodia lags slightly behind other parts of the world. Of course, there are several international schools that are more than capable of meeting your child’s needs, but don’t assume that every school can or will. Again, this is where deep research will work in your favor.

American and international curricula are the most popular in Phnom Penh international schools, followed by the British curriculum. You can also find schools offering Canadian and Australian curricula, as well as some other Asian and European countries. However, the focus is on English-speaking countries.

Below we have compiled the list of best international schools in Phnom Penh. However, there are many more schools in the city. You can also find the best international school for your child by personalizing the results. Anyways let’s review now some of the best schools located in Cambodia.
