<p>Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023 part 2 &#8211; Part one is <a href="https://expats.adamfayed.com/introduction-to-uae-corporate-tax-2023-part-1---benefits-of-corporate-tax/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://expats.adamfayed.com/introduction-to-uae-corporate-tax-2023-part-1---benefits-of-corporate-tax/">here</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="types-of-tax-in-the-united-arab-emirates">Types of Tax in the United Arab Emirates</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="800" height="415" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Plan-ahead-to-pay-tax-on-the-CERB-Newsroom-Image_1.jpg" alt="Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023" class="wp-image-8984" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Plan-ahead-to-pay-tax-on-the-CERB-Newsroom-Image_1.jpg 800w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Plan-ahead-to-pay-tax-on-the-CERB-Newsroom-Image_1-300x156.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Plan-ahead-to-pay-tax-on-the-CERB-Newsroom-Image_1-768x398.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p>Taxes are a necessary part of living in any country. To ensure that everyone contributes towards the growth, well-being, and success of their nation, tax is charged on almost everything you earn, own or buy. However, many countries have different rates for different forms of taxation.</p>

<p>The United Arab Emirates (UAE) uses federal and local taxes to fund the country&#8217;s spending needs. There are also taxes on residents and companies operating in the UAE, at both local and federal levels. Different names in certain countries may know taxes, but their purpose is essentially the same, regardless of their call.</p>

<p>Each tax has its unique way of applying charges to different sources of income or transactions, and each one has a dedicated department that regulates it. Below are the types of taxes in the UAE.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="1-tax-on-incomes">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tax on Incomes</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-1024x683.jpg" alt="Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023" class="wp-image-8972" width="840" height="560" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-768x512.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px" /></figure>

<p>All individuals and companies in the UAE pay tax at a rate of 20 percent, as well as a 3 percent municipality levy. Also, a fee of Dh3,000 applies to non-citizens who want a labor card. Moreover, expatriates with income above Dh21,000 and freehold property in their name must pay an annual tax of 1.5 percent on the home&#8217;s value.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="2-value-added-tax-vat">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Value Added Tax (VAT)</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="620" height="273" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/VAT-calculator.jpg" alt="Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023" class="wp-image-8973" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/VAT-calculator.jpg 620w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/VAT-calculator-300x132.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></figure>

<p><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-added_tax" data-type="URL" data-id="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-added_tax" target="_blank" rel="noopener">VAT</a> is a type of indirect tax applied in the UAE on both goods and services with an additional percentage added on top of their original price. The rate for this form of taxation is 5 percent, although certain items have a zero percent rate, including basic foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, and medical services.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="3-offshore-companies-income-tax">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Offshore Companies&#8217; Income Tax</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="612" height="367" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1304654095-612x612-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8974" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1304654095-612x612-1.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1304654095-612x612-1-300x180.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></figure>

<p>All UAE residents or citizens must declare any income obtained from offshore activities to their local authority immediately. This is because the country regards all money made outside its borders as taxable revenue, even if it is not brought into the country.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="4-new-corporate-tax">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; New Corporate Tax</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="500" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Corporation-Tax.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8975" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Corporation-Tax.jpg 750w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Corporation-Tax-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></figure>

<p>Private companies are subject to a flat rate of 9% for taxable income exceeding 375,000 UAE dirhams ($102,000) and zero for taxable income up to that amount to support small businesses and startups. This tax only applies to UAE-based firms, as foreign affiliates are charged by their respective federal authorities in their home countries.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="5-tax-on-property">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tax on Property</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="612" height="459" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1154736495-612x612-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8976" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1154736495-612x612-1.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1154736495-612x612-1-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></figure>

<p>The UAE government determines who is liable to pay taxes for properties based on nationality or residency. Non-residents and foreign nationals do not have to pay tax for these homes and only register with the municipality. However, if a person is an Emirati citizen and owns more than one property, they must pay 2 percent of the total value of the homes as tax.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="6-tax-on-wills-and-inheritance">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tax on Wills and Inheritance</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="588" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/1140-estate-and-inheritance-tax-1024x588.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8977" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/1140-estate-and-inheritance-tax-1024x588.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/1140-estate-and-inheritance-tax-300x172.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/1140-estate-and-inheritance-tax-768x441.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/1140-estate-and-inheritance-tax.jpg 1140w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The government charges each person who inherits money, property, or other assets a 4 percent fee on all their new fortune. This applies to both individuals and companies that receive an inheritance from someone who has passed away, regardless of whether they live in the UAE or not.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="7-expat-levy">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Expat Levy</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="620" height="330" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-620.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8978" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-620.jpg 620w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/tax-620-300x160.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></figure>

<p>All companies in the UAE must pay a Dh10,000 fee per worker every year if they have over 100 employees on their staff roster. This means that most businesses will contribute at least Dh1 million in fees for each worker employed by them. However, there is no fee when an establishment has fewer than 100 employees.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="8-tax-on-specific-goods-and-services">8.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tax on Specific Goods and Services</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="823" height="350" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Goods_Tax_service.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8979" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Goods_Tax_service.jpg 823w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Goods_Tax_service-300x128.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Goods_Tax_service-768x327.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 823px) 100vw, 823px" /></figure>

<p>Certain transactions are liable to tax in the UAE, including those that contribute towards congestion levels in the country. Items subject to this type of taxation include commercial buildings, car ownership, petrol prices, and tobacco products. Moreover, companies must pay 0.5 percent of their annual income as a license fee.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="10-laws-you-should-know-about-uae">10 Laws You Should Know About UAE</h2>

<p>If you are an expat living in UAE, you have likely heard of the laws here. However, some people may not know the following laws and rules.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="sharia-law">Sharia Law</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="612" height="408" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-155392441-612x612-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8980" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-155392441-612x612-1.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-155392441-612x612-1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></figure>

<p>The judicial system in UAE follows Sharia Law. The act, which is part of Islamic law, has been implemented since the formation of the UAE. It operates under an inquisitorial system and can be called into effect by any state agency or official. While it is true that certain aspects are not applicable to non-Muslims, they may still come into practice when the interests of Sharia Law are involved.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="alcohol-ban">Alcohol Ban</h3>

<p>Drinking alcohol is prohibited throughout the UAE regardless of age, location, or nationality. If you are caught, it will be confiscated, and if you are an Indian or Bangladeshi national, you face deportation. You can still order alcoholic beverages in bars and restaurants, but you will not be served them. You can bring in alcohol for personal consumption, but you cannot take it outside the UAE (even within free zones).</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="driving-ban">Driving Ban</h3>

<p>Non-Muslim expats are not allowed to drive in the country, while Muslims who aren&#8217;t Emiratis are allowed to obtain a license that is valid only in Dubai. All expats living in the country must have a UAE-registered car with a valid UAE or GCC number plate.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="illegal-residency">Illegal Residency</h3>

<p>If you are staying in the country on an employment visa, you must apply for residency as soon as it becomes available to you. If you enter the country without proper documentation, your residency will be illegal. You can obtain a six-month visa on arrival by filling out the proper forms and paying the fee at the airport.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="overtime-working-rules">Overtime Working Rules</h3>

<p>Overtime is generally expected in UAE, but some rules govern it. The working hours are from 8 am to 2 pm (summertime) and from 8 am to 3 pm (winter time). The maximum working hours are 48 hours per week.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="labor-problem">Labor Problem</h3>

<p>Excessive working hours and a ban on trade unions are the main issues surrounding labor problems in UAE. Although, there has been progressing as new legislation was introduced which gives employees more rights and better working conditions.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="free-zones">Free Zones</h3>

<p>Free zones are a good place to do business in UAE as they have their laws and regulations. This allows them to have different rules from the rest of the country but remain under its federal government&#8217;s umbrella. To establish your business, you need to apply for a license from the free zone trade department and pay a fee (based on your business).</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="entry-and-residence-visa">Entry and Residence Visa</h3>

<p>There are two entry visas: a tourist visa and an employment visa. The latter can be obtained before entering the country through an agency, while the former is given to you by immigration on arrival (for free) after your booking is confirmed. You can also choose to enter as a transit passenger, which allows you to stay in the country without a visa.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/UAE_Entry_Stamp-1024x741.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8981" width="811" height="586" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/UAE_Entry_Stamp-1024x741.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/UAE_Entry_Stamp-300x217.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/UAE_Entry_Stamp-768x556.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/UAE_Entry_Stamp.jpg 1512w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 811px) 100vw, 811px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="work-permit">Work Permit</h3>

<p>Before entering into an employment contract, your prospective employer is required to obtain a permit for you from the Ministry of Labor. The necessary documents are based on the profession you are applying for. This also applies if you switch jobs or renew your current work permit.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="resolving-a-dispute">Resolving a Dispute</h3>

<p>As per the UAE constitution, the Federal Supreme Court is the highest court of appeal. It hears appeals regarding civil, commercial, and criminal cases. However, if you live within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or another two Emirates that have their courts (Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah), the case is heard in these courts.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="frequently-asked-questions-about-the-united-arab-emirates">Frequently Asked Questions about the United Arab Emirates</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-is-uae-corporate-tax">What is UAE corporate tax?</h3>

<p>The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will introduce a federal corporate tax on company profits on June 1, 2023. However, it has kept the rate low at 9% to retain its appeal to businesses. You can refer to this platform for more information about the new tax rates.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="612" height="377" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1304654114-612x612-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8982" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1304654114-612x612-1.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-1304654114-612x612-1-300x185.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="why-did-uae-launch-corporate-tax">Why did UAE launch corporate tax?</h3>

<p>Of course, it&#8217;s for the country&#8217;s betterment! Moreover, UAE&#8217;s Finance Ministry said that it launched this corporate tax in line with worldwide efforts to combat tax evasion and meet issues posed by the global economy&#8217;s digitization, according to News International normal, and innovation.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-is-the-vat-rate-in-the-united-arab-emirates">What is the VAT rate in the United Arab Emirates?</h3>

<p>In 2018, the UAE introduced a single 5% Value-Added Tax (VAT) rate across most goods and services. The country applies a 20% tax on international bank branches operating and a 55% tax on enterprises with emirate-level concessions agreements in the oil and gas sector.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-s-living-like-in-the-uae">What&#8217;s living like in the UAE?</h3>

<p>There are seven Emirates located in the United Arab Emirates, each with its own unique culture. Some of their cultures are very similar, but others have different traditions and histories. For expatriates living in the UAE, it&#8217;s important to familiarize oneself with local customs before moving or traveling there.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="can-expats-be-deported-from-the-uae">Can expats be deported from the UAE?</h3>

<p><a></a>In most cases, no! Expats typically sign a contract with their sponsors when they first arrive in the UAE, and it is written in this contract whether or not a person can be deported. Sometimes rather than being deported, an expatriate may have their visa denied instead, which prohibits them from entering the country again.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="conclusion">Conclusion</h3>

<p>As an expat coming to the United Arab Emirates for the first time, it’s essential to know the new change. That’s why it’s always important to check this platform for recent updates on your destination country. <p>Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me&nbsp;<a href="https://adamfayed.com/expats-lets-talk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="introduction"><strong>Introduction</strong></h2>

<p>Since its inception, the United Arab Emirates has been without a tax burden. With this development, people were able to do business without third-party involvement. Even though there’s an extra fee to pay for international transactions, it’s quite low compared to other countries in the world.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/uae-1200-1623062759-1024x683.jpg" alt="Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023" class="wp-image-8962" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/uae-1200-1623062759-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/uae-1200-1623062759-300x200.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/uae-1200-1623062759-768x512.jpg 768w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/uae-1200-1623062759.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>But recently, the country is said to introduce its first-ever corporate taxes, set to start in 2023. Since change is constant, this news represents a significant shift for a country that’s long attracted businesses worldwide. Thanks to its status as a tax-free commerce hub! Meanwhile, businesses will be subject to the tax from June 1, 2023.</p>

<p>However, the country&#8217;s statutory tax rate will be 9% for taxable income exceeding 375,000 UAE dirhams ($102,000) and zero taxable income. In the long run, this will boost small businesses and startups, according to the ministry. In fact, the reports made it known that this UAE corporate tax system will be among the most competitive in the world.</p>

<p>Would you love to know more about the new corporate tax system in the United Arab Emirates? Do you want to travel to this country anytime soon? Are you scared of being taxed? <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="overview-of-the-new-uae-corporate-tax-2023">Overview of the New UAE Corporate Tax 2023</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="620" height="304" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/part11_NSTfield_image_listing_featured.var_1643635149.jpg" alt="Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023" class="wp-image-8963" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/part11_NSTfield_image_listing_featured.var_1643635149.jpg 620w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/part11_NSTfield_image_listing_featured.var_1643635149-300x147.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></figure>

<p>According to the <a href="https://www.mof.gov.ae/en/Pages/default.aspx" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.mof.gov.ae/en/Pages/default.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Finance</a>, United Arab Emirates, the corporate tax regime was designed to incorporate best practices globally. That being said, the program will minimize the compliance burden on businesses.</p>

<p>In addition, the corporate tax will be payable on the profits of UAE businesses as reported in their financial statements prepared in accordance with internationally accepted accounting standards, with minimal exceptions and adjustments. Also, the corporate tax will apply to all businesses and commercial activities alike. But it excludes the extraction of natural resources that remain subject to Emirate tax.</p>

<p>Furthermore, free zone businesses in the country can therefore continue to benefit from these tax incentives as long as they meet the requirements. In contrast, other companies within the UAE’s many free zones have long enjoyed zero taxes and full foreign ownership, among other benefits.</p>

<p>According to the reports, the new corporate tax announcement gives companies in the UAE roughly a year and a half to prepare for taxes. Still, reactions are mixed on whether the move will allow the Gulf sheikhdom to retain its attractiveness to businesses. This is why Mark Hemmings, vice president of tax and treasury at Dubai-based specialty services firm Kent, views the decision as “practical and sensible.”</p>

<p>He also disclosed <em>that “It will be very interesting to see the detail, but at first glance, this looks like a practical and sensible approach to ensure companies in the UAE can comply with the anticipated new international tax rules, whilst ensuring the UAE remains an attractive location for businesses to operate,”</em></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="benefits-of-corporate-tax-in-today-s-world">Benefits of Corporate Tax in Today’s World</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="612" height="408" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-160616076-612x612-2.jpg" alt="Introduction To UAE Corporate Tax 2023" class="wp-image-8965" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-160616076-612x612-2.jpg 612w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/istockphoto-160616076-612x612-2-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></figure>

<p>Corporate income tax (CIT) is a tax on a company&#8217;s net profits, and almost all countries levy it. Just like any other taxation system, corporate taxation means more than just generating revenue for the government; CIT also has some social benefits along with its economic advantages. To get to know them better, see the ten benefits of corporate tax in today’s world presented below.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="encourages-transparency">Encourages Transparency</h3>

<p>In a bid to discourage tax avoidance, total transparency is required from companies so that they don&#8217;t take undue advantage of the system and pick only the most beneficial income tax structure for themselves. If a company has to show its total earnings, profits, and losses to the government, there is little chance it will hide anything.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="removes-doubts-about-income">Removes Doubts about Income</h3>

<p>When companies are taxed on their net income only, they have no motive to overcomplicate or disguise their earnings. They can report any value as sales revenue because it will always lead to taxation, and they will never need to question the authenticity of their earnings in doing so.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="creates-a-competitive-environment">Creates a Competitive Environment</h3>

<p>When both large and small companies compete in a market and pay taxes on their respective earnings, it creates an equal environment for all businesses — no matter how large or small — to work and grow within. Moreover, if a company is taxed at lower rates than its competitors, it will suffer. It will find it challenging to keep up with other companies indefinitely.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="reduces-bias-against-corporations">Reduces Bias against Corporations</h3>

<p>Unlike personal income tax systems where wealthy individuals are usually given tax breaks and targeted benefits, corporate taxation treats every company the same way regardless of its size, popularity, success, and earnings. This reduces the bias against corporate entities that is usually common among people owing to envy or ignorance.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="870" height="365" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/digital_taxes.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8967" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/digital_taxes.jpg 870w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/digital_taxes-300x126.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/digital_taxes-768x322.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="incentivizes-growth">Incentivizes Growth</h3>

<p>If a business has to pay taxes for any price under a certain threshold or offset one tax with another by spending — as is the case with many countries — then it is incentivized to grow in size and provides the government with more revenue. This is beneficial for both parties because businesses can generate more income while collecting more taxes.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="penalizes-misuse-of-resources">Penalizes Misuse of Resources</h3>

<p>Countries that impose corporate taxation on companies are always at an advantage compared to other countries where businesses do not pay taxes. This is because the former takes away resources from their citizens which they would otherwise use in an unproductive manner or misused for negative purposes.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="reduces-the-burden-of-personal-income-tax">Reduces the Burden of Personal Income Tax</h3>

<p>When a corporation is taxed on its net income, it reduces the tax burden of personal income taxpayers. This is because companies usually do not pay taxes on salaries to their workers or profit-sharing bonus that they distribute among key employees.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="encourages-development-and-innovation">Encourages Development and Innovation</h3>

<p>If a business pays any corporate tax, then it will always be at an advantage as compared to those companies that don&#8217;t. This is because those businesses which do not pay corporate taxes survive on the revenue generated by the other group and thus do not have sufficient funds for development or innovation.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="gives-a-stronger-economy">Gives a Stronger Economy</h3>

<p>The constant growth of a country&#8217;s GDP can only come from a strong economy that collects taxes from both its citizens and businesses. This strengthens the country&#8217;s economy because it can spend tax money on local development, foreign aid, environmental protection programs, etc.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="provides-better-opportunities-for-investment">Provides Better Opportunities for Investment</h3>

<p>The more profitable a business is, the greater the amount of investment it attracts to itself. With increased investment opportunities come higher chances of success for a company, making the business environment more attractive to new businesses.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="tax-systems-in-the-united-arab-emirates">Tax Systems in the United Arab Emirates</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="440" src="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/dirhams-featured.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8966" srcset="https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/dirhams-featured.jpg 800w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/dirhams-featured-300x165.jpg 300w, https://expats.adamfayed.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/dirhams-featured-768x422.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p>Many countries in the world have a tax system, and what it means to be taxed varies between each. In UAE, there is no federal income tax as this will not fit into the current <a href="https://expats.adamfayed.com/do-expats-pay-taxes/" data-type="post" data-id="3251">UAE tax system</a>, which is based on charging companies for their activities within the country.</p>

<p>The United Arab Emirates&#8217; economy has grown significantly since its formation in 1971, and its oil exports keep the economy running, but that&#8217;s not enough to support growth. While taxes are not used within UAE for citizens or companies, there is a system of fees known as Zakat, which all Muslims pay each year during Ramadan.</p>

<p>A tax system based on charging companies for their activities was implemented in 1998 after the formation of the UAE government. The Impost, or general tax system, led to more foreign businesses being attracted to the region, which helped build its local economy.</p>

<p>Impost charges are levied on companies that import goods into UAE using an Invoice-Import Method. They also include charges for all goods and services inside UAE, including shipping, insurance, and brokerage. Companies who provide services in UAE but do not import goods are charged based on their number of employees (Empowerment Tax).</p>

<p>Companies that operate outside the UAE which offer services to people within UAE are forced to pay taxes for this work through an External Commercial Presence (ECP) Method. Companies operating within UAE who import goods and provide services are charged taxes every year.</p>
