Getting A Spouse Visa In Canada part 2 – Part one is here.

Benefits of Moving To Canada In 2022

Moving to Canada in 2022 will provide many benefits to those who migrate. Many Canadians have expressed a strong desire to welcome immigrants from all over the world and offer them a new beginning. These benefits of moving to Canada in 2022 are just some of the reasons why so many people want to move north.

1) The Great NEB Debate

With the No Oil Pipeline Debate continuing, there will be a need for more workers in Canada. The Great NEB debate is about whether or not to allow construction on pipelines that would develop new oil sands and transport oil across the country. This will create many jobs for newcomers who are willing to relocate to Canada.

2) Job Opportunities

The oil industry is not the only sector that will help employ new people coming to Canada. A report by CIBC Economics shows that immigrants are more likely than non-immigrants to start companies and have higher business ownership rates, particularly among visible minorities. These job opportunities represent various sectors, including education, healthcare, and financial services.

3) Peace and Stability

Canada is often referred to as “peace-loving Canada,” where peace and stability are deeply rooted in the country’s core values. This peaceful environment has drawn many immigrants who strive for a safe environment to live, work, raise a family and start a business.

Meanwhile, people who wish to leave the USA and seek a new life elsewhere will be drawn to Canada as an alternative place of peace and stability.

4) Healthcare Services

Canada’s healthcare services are well known for their high-quality care, timely service, and access to treatment for all Canadians. Many immigrants choose Canada as the best destination to receive medical treatment because healthcare is free. Moreover, Canada’s well-developed medical infrastructure allows easy access to the full range of healthcare services.

5) Education System

Canada’s education system ranks among the best in the world. The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) showed that Canada is one of only three countries to have significantly outperformed the OECD average. Many immigrants are drawn by Canada’s fair and equal access to education, while Canadians are proud of its high-quality services.

6) Social Programs

Universal, single-payer health care is available to all permanent residents. Unlike in the United States, where healthcare costs are soaring, health care in Canada is considerably cheaper. Canadians say that they are generally satisfied with their system of universal coverage, with 91 percent indicating that they are very or somewhat satisfied, according to a 2021 Commonwealth Fund International Health Policy Survey.

7) Affordability & Lifestyle

The cost of living in Canada is lower than in many other industrialized nations. The average household income in Canada was $1,050.59 as of 2021 compared with $64,000 in the US, according to OECD data for 2020. This means that immigration to Canada means immigrants can live a higher quality of life for less.

8) A Strong Economy

According to the IMF, Canada is projected to have the strongest growth of any advanced economy in 2022, with output expanding by 5.7 percent. This positive prediction is good news for immigrants looking for a better life outside their native country. Moreover, this growth is expected to continue, making Canada an even more attractive destination.

Tourist Attractions to Visit in Canada In 2022

Canada is a beautiful country that attracts tourists from all over the world. The picturesque mountains and rivers are just some of the amazing places to visit in Canada. The majority of Canadians are bilingual, speaking both English and French fluently.

Besides these two languages, there are also hundreds of different languages spoken throughout Canada. Although English is the most commonly used language, French still has a very important role in Canada. Over 22 million residents are living in Canada right now, with the majority being from Europe and just recently Asia as well. Without further ado, the tourist attractions to visit in Canada include.

1. Hochelaga Maisonneuve Park

The first tourist attraction is the Hochelaga Maisonneuve Park, located in Montreal, Quebec. The park was built in 1982 and is one of Canada’s largest urban parks that can host many different activities there, including sports games.

What makes this park a tourist attraction is that the Montreal Tower is placed right next to it. The tower used to be an observation floor at 132 meters high but was closed in 1976 due to structural issues.

2. Mont-Orford National Park

Another great place to visit in Canada before 2022 is Mont-Orford National Park. This park is located in the Eastern Townships region, and it opened its doors for tourists in 1984 after a major fire destroyed many buildings there. The park has beautiful views of the valley, and it is perfect for hikers who want to walk around, rest under a tree in the shadow, or enjoy the fresh air.

3. The Rideau Canal

Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ontario, is another tourist attraction worth visiting in Canada before 2022. It was built in 1832 when Queen Victoria ordered it to be built. The canal is still used today, not only for transportation but also for water supplies and power generation. Cruise along the 204 km long canals that pass through 6 cities in Canada and see locks, dams, bridges, buildings, and other attractions located there.

4. Desert Sands Resort

The Desert Sands Resort is one of the best places to go in Canada before 2022. It was built in 2009 and offered family-sized cottages that are perfect for travelers looking to get away from it all. The resort is located inside the Great Sand Dunes National Park near Grand Lake, Colorado. The park itself has unique dunes that were formed over 5,000 years ago.

5. Casa Loma

Last but not least is Casa Loma, located in Toronto, Ontario. The castle was built by Sir Henry Pellatt, who hired chief architect E. J. Lennox builds it for him in 1911. It took three years to complete, and the castle held up to 100 rooms. Today, the castle hosts many different exhibits, and it is visited by around 250,000 people each year.

6. Great Bear Rainforest

The next attraction is the Great Bear Rainforest, located in British Columbia, Canada. The rainforest itself was founded in 2006 through an agreement between 6 First Nations groups and Canadian governments to conserve 85% of the region’s land while still allowing it to be used for resource extraction by local Indigenous groups.

It is also known as the homeland for rare black bears but is mostly home to Kermode bears, a subspecies of black bears.

7. Mount Revelstoke National Park

The third tourist attraction is Mount Revelstoke National Park. The park was founded in 1914 and is best known for its glaciers and lush forests, which offer a home to animals such as deer, elk, and moose.

There are over 20 marked trails that can be used by hikers and mountain bikers while being sure not to disturb the local wildlife. Moreover, there are multiple campgrounds for those who would like to get a closer look at indigenous animals such as bears and cougars.

Frequently Asked Questions about Getting a Spouse Visa

What is a spouse visa?

A spouse visa allows one who has married another person with the specific intention of remaining living together outside their home country to be granted permission to do so by immigrating to said other person’s home country. This visa also includes permission for any unmarried children (under 18) to immigrate with the visa holder.

How long does it take to get a spouse visa?

It generally takes at least six months from the time of filing before your application is reviewed. In order to be approved, you must have been married for more than one year and lived together during that time. If this requirement has not been met, then you must wait an additional three years before being able to file for a spouse visa.

Can I work in Canada if my spouse has a spouse visa?

No. Having a spouse visa allows you to obtain sponsorship for yourself but does not allow you to obtain sponsorship for your husband/wife as well as one cannot have two jobs in Canada under the same employer without infringing upon labor laws. Your sponsored spouse can apply for an open work permit after living in Canada for three years, but not before.

Can I study in Canada if my spouse has a spouse visa?

No. Having a spouse visa allows you to obtain sponsorship for yourself but does not allow your husband/wife to do so. Additionally, it is illegal for your husband/wife to study under his/her spouse’s student permit while in Canada.

How much does it cost to get a spouse visa?

The total fee for the Spouse Visa package is $550 and includes application fees, affidavit forms, and pictures. Additionally, if you are residing in Mexico at the time of applying for your visa, then you must pay CAD 50 for an appointment with the Canadian Embassy.

Conclusion

Getting married is an exciting time for many couples. However, with marriage come various implications and consequences, one of which is the ability to immigrate to another country. For spouses already living in Canada on student or work visas, applying for Permanent Residency (PR) can be difficult.
Getting A Spouse Visa In Canada part 1 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Marriage is a legally binding social or religious ceremony that unites two people as husband and wife. The marriage of the couple results in certain legal rights, privileges, obligations, and responsibilities to each other. A spouse visa is issued by the concerned authorities of the respective country.

It allows married partners with citizen status to live together in that country. The spouse visa is normally given to reduce cases of illegal immigration and to protect the citizens from exploitation by those entering into marriage only as an act of convenience.

As Canada welcomes immigrants who help strengthen their society now and in the future, they provide a number of opportunities for those wanting to immigrate. The Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada Class is for individuals who have been married or in a common-law relationship with a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian within the past two years.

If you are planning to come to Canada as the spouse or common-law partner of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, then you should apply for the Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada Class. As a spouse or common-law partner in this class, you may be eligible to apply for an open work permit which would allow you to accept any employment without the requirement of an LMIA.

Marriage must be legal under the laws of both countries and can only be refused on the grounds of misstatement, fraud, or where there is evidence that it is a marriage of convenience. We are keen to explain how to get a spouse visa in Canada. Not only is that, but we will walk you through the process and all.

How to Get a Spouse Visa in Canada

You want to bring your spouse to Canada, but you don’t know-how. You might have heard that the process takes a long time and is full of red tape. In some cases, it can even be impossible to get a spouse visa in Canada. However, if you follow the proper steps, bringing your loved one to Canada isn’t nearly as complicated or time-consuming. Here are the ways to get a spouse visa in Canada.

● Be Legally Married

The first step to getting a spouse visa in Canada is legally married. In order for your foreign national spouse to be allowed entry into the country, you must have been legally married. If you haven’t been legally married, you must first get a legal marriage certificate.

● Be Living Together

In most cases, your spouse cannot live outside of Canada while they wait for their permanent resident application. Partners living apart risk having their applications denied and will have to start the process all over again if they wish to be reunited in Canada.

● Get a Sponsorship Letter

In most cases, your spouse will have to get a sponsorship letter from you if they want to receive a spousal visa from the Canadian government. This letter confirms that you are willing and able to provide financial support for your spouse while living in Canada.

● Get a Medical Exam

In some cases, your spouse will have to get a medical exam before being issued a temporary resident visa in order for them to move to Canada temporarily. The Canadian government may require certain vaccinations and preventative treatments before allowing entry into the country. If you want your spouse to move to Canada with you, make sure to get a medical exam well in advance.

● Get an Authorization to Return To Canada

Your spouse might need to get authorization to return to Canada if they are not currently living in the country. This document shows that your spouse is allowed back into the country, even though they left without permission. If your spouse left Canada without permission, they are at risk of being banned from entering the country even after you receive a spouse visa.

● Know Where You Want to Live

Once you have your spouse visa, you are free to live anywhere in Canada, deemed reasonable by the Canadian Border Service Agency. If you are unsure where this location would be, it’s a good idea to start looking for employment and housing before applying for your spouse’s visa.

● Apply Early

There are several different spousal visas, each of which comes with its own requirements and restrictions. If you want to bring your spouse to Canada, applying early will give you the best chance to accept your application. The earliest time that someone can apply for a spouse visa in Canada is six months before getting married.

● Get the Appropriate Visa

In order to be successful in bringing your spouse to Canada, you must first apply for the correct visa. There are a number of different spousal visas, each with its own requirements and restrictions. If your application is not accepted, you will have to start the process all over again from scratch.

Requirements to Get a Spouse Visa in Canada

Canada is well-known for its good quality of life, social tolerance, and free culture. Many people all over the world are looking for opportunities to move there in order to find better living conditions. However, if you are thinking about starting a family in Canada, it is necessary that you fulfill some requirements first. Here are five requirements that you must meet in order to get a spouse visa.

Age

Before applying for a spouse visa, the couple must be married. If you are not married yet, you can choose to apply for a fiancée visa in order to make sure that the plan will work out. Once you are legally engaged, you need to wait for at least one year before applying for a spouse visa.

Dependents

If you are applying as single, then your application will be refused right away. In order to get a spouse visa, you need to take care of all the family members that depend on you financially and also those who live with you. If both partners are financially dependent on each other, the application will be processed even faster.

Permanent Residency

In order to apply for a spouse visa in Canada, you must have the status of permanent resident or citizen. If you are not a Canadian resident yet and would like to immigrate there with your spouse, you must first apply for permanent residency.

Also, you will not bring your children with you if you apply for a fiancée visa. If the application is refused, they will have to stay in their home country until they can successfully apply for a spouse visa.

Language

In order to get a spouse visa, both partners need to prove that they have basic knowledge of English or French. In some cases, you may be asked to take a language test, so it is better if you start learning one of those languages as early as possible. Besides, you will need to know the language in order to cope with daily life, find a job, and make friends.

Income

Before applying for a spouse visa, you must prove that you have enough money in order to support your family while living there. The amount of money depends on how many people are included in the application – for example, if you are applying alone or with one child. Besides, you will need to prove that you have enough money for health insurance and housing.

Eligibility for a Spouse Visa in Canada

No person can enter or stay in Canada without a proper visa or authorized status. Canadian law determines the meaning of “spouse” for people who can come and live in Canada permanently. The following conditions must be met for a non-citizen spouse to get permanent status in Canada on that basis.

Have a valid marriage with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; and

Live together in an ongoing and mutually binding relationship (The couple must live together for two of the four years of their initial application.)

Live together in one household; and

Must not be under any order of deportation or removal; and

Must not be at risk to national security or public safety; and

Must not have any previous immigration violations; and

Satisfy the visa officer that they will leave Canada at the end of their authorized stay, usually three years. A spouse, who has been in Canada for more than three years without leaving, can apply for a work permit. It is possible to get out of the sponsorship before the end of three years after arriving in Canada unless there are children involved.

How To Get A Canadian Visa In 2021 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Canada is a North American country that is located directly above the United States. It is a developed country and has experienced a large inflow of immigrants into its borders since the beginning of the last decade. Nonetheless, a question lingers in many people’s minds, “how do you get a Canadian Visa?”

Just like every other country, Canada has certain requirements ascribed to getting their visa. Hence, not knowing what they are can lead to getting your visa late or not getting it at all.

Without any further ado, here is a comprehensive guide on how you can get a Canadian visa in 2021.

What’s A Canadian Visa?

A Canadian Visa is a passport stamp that permits you to enter Canadian borders. It is more or less permission granted to you to leave your country and reside temporarily or permanently in Canada. This means that the Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your home country considers you eligible for entry into Canada. Nonetheless, when you do get to the Canadian borders, it is left for the officers at its border to decide your eligibility.

Usually, you will be permitted to enter if you give genuine and accurate answers to all Canadian Border services questions. If otherwise, you might be restrained, not permitted your entrance, and asked to return to your country even with your Canadian Visa.

Who Need a Canadian Visa?

A better way to understand those who need a Canadian visa is to know those who don’t need it. Those that have an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) agreement with the country and those who have a visa exemption won’t need a visa to enter Canada. However, every other individual would need a visa. More precisely, anyone from other countries worldwide needs a visa to work, visit, or immigrate.

Peradventure, you fall into this category, you will need a visa to enter Canada, and you have to apply for one. More so, depending on what you want to do in Canada, the requirements for the different visas vary. However, some criteria generally apply for visa applications.

What are the Visa Types?

It is paramount that you know which visa you are applying for before you apply for any visa. Here are the visa types for Canada:

Student visas.

Work visas.

Visitor visas

Business immigrant visas

Express entry program visas

Permanent visas

You have to choose the option that best applies to what you want to do in Canada.

Temporary And Permanent Canadian Visas

Canadian visas, like every other visa, are divided into two subgroups; temporary and permanent visas. All of the visas under the sub-group temporary visa permit the interested applicant to reside in Canada for a while. The Canadian Border service officers or consulate determines the length of time. However, most often than not, it is up to 6 months, and applicants can make single or multiple entries.

The single entry allows the person with the visa to enter Canada once, spend six months then return to their country. In contrast, the multiple entry visa allows the person to enter several times temporarily until the visa expires.

Moving on, here are the temporary Canadian visas available:

Canadian Super Visa

This visa is for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens. This visa allows them to come to visit their children in Canada for a limited amount of time.

Courtesy Visa

Courtesy Visas are for those who don’t meet the Diplomatic and Official Visa requirements but are regarded as important due to the positions they hold. A notable example is a diplomat traveling to Canada with tourism intent.

Canada’s Diplomatic and Official Visa

This visa permits diplomats and officials from other countries to enter Canada squarely based on official intents and purposes.

The Visa of Putting To Bed In Canada

This visa permits anyone who passes all the criteria the chance to give birth in Canada. Participants should note that this automatically makes the child a Canadian citizen.

Canada Business Visa

This visa is given to anyone or a group of people who seek to have a business in Canada.

Canada Facilitation Visa

This visa is a bit different from the other ones listed above. The Canadian Facilitation visa is given to dual citizens. The situation around getting this visa is if the citizen has a passport for their country. So when this visa is issued is by stamping their other visa due to the struggle that might have accompanied getting a Canadian visa.

Organ Donor Visa

This visa is given to people who seek to donate an organ to a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.

Canadian Student Visa

A Canadian student visa is given to students admitted to any Canadian tertiary institution to finish their studies. However, it is important to note that if you wish to spend less than six months; you can get a TRV visa; otherwise, you have to get a student visa.

Canadian Work Visa

This offer is for anyone who has come to Canada to participate in a job that will last them up to six months. Nonetheless, before the person can be given a Visa, they have to prove that they were given a job in Canada.

Working Holiday Canadian Visa

Thirty countries are eligible for this visa. This visa permits anyone from any of the thirty countries to work within the Canadian borders and travel. The selection for this visa is made randomly, which means that applicants would be taken at random and asked to apply for the work permit.

Now that we all know about temporary visas and the examples, we are left with permanent visas. Unlike temporary visas, permanent visas permit those who have them to reside in Canada permanently.

Another name for a permanent visa is an immigrant visa. More so, permanent visas come in different types:

The Immigrant Investor Program Visa

This visa is for anyone who can invest a sum of 400,000 Canadian dollars. The applicant for this visa must have at least 800,000 Canadian dollars. However, applicants should note that this investment of 400,000 Canadian dollars to the Canadian government would return you with no ROI in five years.

Canadian Startup Visa

This visa is for anyone willing to be involved in contributing to Canada’s economy. Interested applicants must have a minimum of 300,000 Canadian dollars to be able to qualify for this visa. Plus, they should be concerned with owning about one-third of a business and starting and maintaining employment within three years.

Canadian Self Employed Visa

The Canadian Self-employed Visa is for applicants skilled in business, sport, farming, or culture. Plus, skilled applicants should be able to start up a business. More so, to qualify for this visa, the applicant must show how they wish to fund their business and their skills in the areas they have chosen.

Quebec-Selected Skilled Worker Program Visa

If you are proficient in French and you have to use the province of Quebec to pursue an occupation, you can apply for the Quebec-selected Visa. Not only would the program permit you to work and stay in the province.

Family sponsorship Program

This visa is for children and spouses of permanent residents or Canadian citizens to immigrate into the country permanently.

Live-in Caregivers Canadian Visa

This visa allows people proficient in taking care of the elderly, disabled, and children in Canada.

How to Apply For Canadian Visa

The process of Canadian Visa application varies and depends on the visa you are applying for. Nevertheless, if you want to get a Canadian Visa, you have to follow the steps below:

Do your research and ensure that you are eligible for the visa you are applying for.

Open an online account.

Put together all of the necessary documents.

Pay the required fee.

Patiently wait for your Canadian visa processing.

Drop your passport and pay the processing fee.

How to Find Out If You Meet the Visa’s Eligibility

To confirm if you are eligible for a Canadian visa, the country’s government made it straightforward. They have several tests to test for applicant’s eligibility. All they have to do is to fill up an online questionnaire. The question you will be asked depends on the visa you are applying for. After you have answered all of the questions, the system will inform you on whether to apply for the visa or not.

Plus, the system would send all of the important steps and instructions you will need to meet the Canadian Visa requirements.

How to Get Around the Canadian Visas Website

For you to be able to have access to the questionnaires talked about above, you have to get to their website first. The website would showcase a lot of information and tabs, but you must ignore all of those and look for the immigration tab.

The instant you click on the immigration tab, it would display several options. The option that appears first is not my application. After that, the Visit, immigrate, study, work, and other tabs would appear. After you have seen these tabs, you will then pick the ones that best apply to you. For example, if you want a work visa, you click on the work tab.

Now that you have clicked the tab that applies for your reason for traveling to Canada, the site would display more information. You would see a linked statement, “Find out if you are eligible or Find out if you can apply.” Click on it.

The clicked link would directly answer a questionnaire where you answer several questions. These questions would cover everything from previous travel history and personal reasons you want to travel to Canada.

The Eligibility Result

The website releases three different kinds of results that say the following:

If you are eligible for the visa, you have chosen

If you are eligible for another visa program in the system.

If you are not eligible for a visa.

If you pass the eligibility for the visa you have chosen or another, the website will ask for your contact information. The contact information you will be required to submit is your email address. Also, the system will send some documents to you.

The document sent contains;

The Visa description

To detail instructions of how to apply

A reference code

Of all the above information provided in the documents sent by the system, the reference code is the most important. The reference code is what would be used to start the application. All the reference code does is provide the system with the information you set down using the questionnaire, and it will be the visa you have chosen. Hence, it is paramount that you protect all of the information the system sends to you.

Open an Online Account

Along with the information sent to your Gmail account, there will also be information on whether you should apply for a visa in person or online. However, since the government of Canada seeks to have digital records, you will make most of the applications online. Nonetheless, to apply online, you need an online account.

Here are two ways to open an online account:

Since the Canadian government has partnered with several banks, you can open an online account using your online bank login.

Using a GCKey, (government of Canada login)

You can pick any of the options that best suit you. However, you will still need to use your banking details to pay the visa fees.

Getting the Necessary Documents

After you have logged into your online account, you can start your application. You have to input your reference code to start your application. Once you have done that, the system will list out all of the documents you would need.

A glimpse of what to expect;

Passport.

Your Canada visa application form.

Proof of payment of visa fees.

Proof of a clean criminal record.

Proof of being in great health.

Proof that you will return to your home country

Photographs considering the photo requirements for a Canada visa.

Identity and Civil Status Documents.

Proof of a reliable financial means.

A cover letter that has what your purpose in Canada is.

Letter of invitation to Canada.

You have to submit all of these documents to move on with your application.

Pay the Required Fee

After you have submitted all of your documents and the system has verified them, the website will take you to a page where you are expected to pay. However, you should note that the required fee is dependent on the type of visa you applied for. After you pay the appropriate way, your application will be made, and the system submits your application.

If you seek to apply online, it takes about five workdays for the application to appear on your account. Nonetheless, if you are applying offline, you have to carry the necessary documents, just like the one above, and submit them to the embassy situated in your country.

Wait Patiently For Visa Processing

After thoroughly following all of the steps above, the Canadian Embassy will process your visa for 14 days or more. The duration required depends on the kind of visa you applied for. Plus, the embassy may ask that you provide more documents, your biometrics, or sometimes an interview.

If you were asked to submit your biometrics or come for an interview, that means you have to visit the embassy in person regardless of how you registered. Also, you might have to make an appointment with the embassy. More often than not, though, the embassy makes one for you.

During the appointment, there will be an official. The official would tell you if you are fit for the visa or not at the end of the appointment and forward a notification later on. These notifications would be posted on your account even if you weren’t called upon for an interview or to submit biometrics. Hence, you must constantly check your account for these notifications.

Drop Your Passport and Pay the Processing Fee

If you receive a notification stating the success of your application, the next thing on the to-do list is to submit your passport at the embassy. You can do this by simply sending the passport and the processing fee as mail to the Canadian Embassy in your country.

Your processing fee depends on the visa you applied for. Nonetheless, the processing fee is between the ranges of 20 to 50 dollars. Also, the mode of payment is either by money order or a check. More so, you have to pay for your passport’s return envelope.

The embassy would receive all of the documents you have sent and stamp the visa on your passport. After they have done this, they will mail back your stamped passport.

The “After” Of a Successful Visa Application

Most are over. After you have gotten your visa, you can go on a trip to Canada anytime. More so, at the point of entry, the officials at the border would ask for your visa and other documents. Plus, the officials would also ask a few questions about your trip to Canada. After you have answered all of their questions, they will decide if to let you into Canada or not.

Most times, they would restrict your entry because you might commit crimes or not abide by your visa restrictions. Note, a Canadian visa doesn’t guarantee you entrance to Canada; only border officials do that.

Now that we have dealt with how to get a Canadian visa, here are some questions and answers that can help you better understand the process and even help you with some questions you might have.

How Long It Takes To Get a Canadian Visa

The Canadian authorities only start to process your visa when you have completed your application. More so, the duration of your visa processing is highly dependent on the type of visa you are getting. Nonetheless, the time frame is two to four weeks. However, you should note that it can be longer.

Can I Get A Canadian Visa For Someone Else?

To put this out there, if you reside in Canada and you want a relative from another country to come to Canada, you can send a letter of invitation. However, you should note that this letter doesn’t guarantee that they will be given a Canadian visa. The embassy would process the visa as usual, but the letter might be of help.

Also, if you want them to move into Canada permanently with you, you can opt for the Canada Family sponsorship program.

How Much Does a Canadian Visa Fee Cost?

The cost depends on the type of visa you applied for. Also, you should know that there are other fees attached to visa processing; Fees like the biometric and processing fee. However, the cost of a normal visitor fee is 100 Canadian dollars.

What Happens when you pass your Required Stay in Canada?

What happens next when you have outstayed your visa expiry date is determined by how long you outstayed.

If you only stayed less than 90 days after your visa expiry date, you can restore your visitor’s status. You can do this by applying for a Visitor’s record and picking the option, “restore my status as a visitor.”

But if you stayed more than 90 days after your visa expiry date, you can restore your visitor’s status, and you might not be able to get a Canadian visa again.

Nonetheless, it is advisable not to stay past your visa expiry date. If you think you want an extension, apply for one.

Is A Refund Given If your Canadian Application is Rejected?

No! The fees are nonrefundable. However, if you withdraw your application before processing it, you might get your fee back.

Can you get a Canadian Visa from another Country’s Embassy?

If you have a residency permit in the country you want to get your visa from, you can go ahead and do it.

Conclusion

The process of getting a Canadian visa can be a stressful task, and a lot of patience and caution is required. To avoid rejection, ensure that you apply for the visa that best applies to what you wish to do in Canada. Nonetheless, refer to this guide for more information.

Aside from this system, there are other options including, Business Immigration, Family Sponsorship, Provincial Nominee Program, and many others, to mention a few.

Top 10 Reasons to Move to Canada from the US

Undoubtedly, Canada is renowned as one of the most welcoming countries in the world. In fact, we can say that immigrants built the country, and the citizens do not forget it. Now, if you’ve been wondering why many people love to relocate from the US to Canada, below is a detailed explanation.

1. Universal Healthcare System

While living in Canada, the citizens don’t have to worry about huge medical bills. And this is one of the factors or reasons why a lot of people would love to make Canada their permanent area of residence. Also, Canada’s healthcare system is considered one of the fairest and most accessible in the world.

Their medical treatment is mostly free at the point of use because government taxes fund it. Besides, each province is given a healthy budget to administer locally and issue health cards to all eligible residents, thereby allowing them to access healthcare. Depending on the visa you have, you might even be granted a health card.

2. Low Crime Rate and Safety

Canada’s low crime rate is envied around the world, and this has also contributed to why a lot of US citizens love to relocate. Moreover, violent crime in Canada is extremely rare, and gun ownership is nearly four times lower than the United States of America. And this reason has boosted Canada’s global reputation to be among the safest countries in the world. Besides, gun ownership is lower because the citizens feel safer.

3. Excellent Educational Facilities

Canada’s education is among the best in the world. This is due to the fact that the country values education and has long ensured that young citizens have access to the best schooling available regardless of their academic background. This, in turn, has created a well-informed society that offers great career opportunities for skilled expats.

4. Home of Multicultural Melting Pot

Canada’s Anglo-French culture was ingrained in the national identity from the country’s inception. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Canada today is one of the most diverse nations in the world. In fact, research revealed that about 41 of Canada’s 338 members of parliament were born overseas, ensuring tolerance and multiculturalism are promoted and also protected at the heart of government.

5. Economic Stability and Strength

The postcard images of spectacular lakes and mountains in Canada are undoubtedly alluring. However, anyone that’s considering the move to a new location will definitely put the financial benefits of any possible destination in practice.

Again, Canada’s banking system is known to be the bedrock of its robust and secure economy, which has been voted the most stable on the planet for more than seven consecutive years according to the World Economic Forum. In summary, this financial security allows Canada to offer a good quality of life for the vast majority of residents and emerge the second-highest standard of living of all the G20 nations.

6. Canadian Sense of Humour

Canada is pretty progressive and very multicultural compared to other countries in the world. When you move to this country, you’d be encouraged to keep your traditions, language, religion, and culture.
This type of immigration process is aimed at helping unskilled workers in jobs such as farming, trucking, and more to move from the United States to Canada. After working in Canada for about 6-9 months and you might have received full-time job offers from your employers, you can apply for a permanent residency in Canada through the following packages.

Child and Home care Provider program/pilot

Agri-Food immigration program/pilot

Long-Haul Truck Driver program/pilot

How We Make Moving from the US to Canada

Initially, one can just drive across the border with all belongings, but it’s essential to follow the right process, collect all the documents, and fill in the heaps of paperwork correctly. Moreover, you can use accredited, regulated Canadian immigration consultants. Now, it is the job of the RCICs to assist you with your eligibility evaluation and submit them to the Canadian government on your behalf.

Immigration to Canada Using USMCA

Under the terms of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which the older NAFTA agreements have replaced, there are three keys to obtaining a work permit using this agreement, especially if you’re a US citizen. Without much talk, below is a detailed description of what the program entails.

1. USMCA/NAFTA Professional Program

Candidates who would love to apply for this category must meet the following criteria:

You must qualify for one of the targeted professions, including engineer, accountants, lawyers, medical, and scientific staff.

You must have pre-arranged your work in one of the fields mentioned above

Always know that self-employed work is not eligible

2. USMCA/NAFTA Intra-Company Transfers for US Citizens

This kind of program is meant for the staff of an American company that transfers to a Canadian branch of the same firm. Below are the requirements to apply for this kind of immigration process.

You must have been in continuous employment at the firm for at least one of the last three years

The company must have employed you as at the time you’re applying for this kind of relocation package

You must be working in a specialized or managerial role in your company

3. USMCA/NAFTA Traders and Investors Program

The USMCA/NAFTA traders program is suitable for those who are investing in Canadian business and also seeking immigration to Canada from the USA or Mexico to grow their business. Under this program or Canada’s Express Entry immigration system, the USMCA workers in the country may benefit from additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for a valid job offer.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Like the United States of America, Canada is subdivided into different jurisdictions known as territories and provinces. These territories are, in some ways, similar to the different states that make up the United States. This PNP can be a great starting point for U.S. citizens and residents who know which province or territory they want to settle in.

Family Sponsorship in the United States

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouses to obtain Canadian permanent resident status. Since the country recognizes same-sex marriage, same-sex partners may apply for reunification as long as they meet all of Canada’s standard eligibility requirements. However, both the sponsoring Canadian citizen and the sponsored person must be approved to be granted permanent residence.

Work without a Work Permit Package

A number of situations may occur when the people in the United States can perform work in Canada without needing to secure a temporary work permit. This type of program includes people that engage in business or trade activities in Canada but will not enter the Canadian labor market collectively referred to as Business visitors.

Ultimate Travel Guide to Move to Canada

Have you been planning a trip to the land of snow and maple syrup? From the United States of America, you can relocate to Canada without stress or disturbance. And there are special relocation packages for U.S. citizens when moving to Canada. Below are the things you should know before you travel.

Distance Are Always Enormous

Compared to the U.S short travel distance, don’t assume you will cover most of Canada’s location during a short visit. This is because; it’s a huge country and getting from one city to the other involves traveling long distances. Also, many people don’t schedule enough time for their trip across Canada, and this could make them find themselves rushing from one city to the next.

Prepare For the Weather

To some extent, we can say that the weather in the United States and that of Canada is quite similar. However, the three words you may need to remember when packing for a trip to Canada are layers, layers, and layers. In fact, if you’re visiting the country in the summertime, there can be thunderstorms on prairies, and in the mountains, the temperature dips at night. Moreover, it gets cold in the winter, and you can expect Siberian temperatures.

Get Your ETA Visa

When you’re moving from the United States to Canada, it’s always crucial to get your ETA Visa in advance. The ETA stands for Electronic Travel Authorization, and it’s a new entry requirement for visitors to Canada. Moreover, this visa is now mandatory for all visa-free nationals except the Americans since November of 2016. In most cases, you can get your ETA approved in few minutes of applying.

Always Use Couchsurfing to Stay Free

Accommodation in the United States is not free or cheap, just as it is in Canada. Although some of the major cities and tourist spots have hostels but they are still quite pricey. Therefore, if you’ll have to stay in a hotel, this could likely eat up a lot of your budget. Besides, the value of Couchsurfing isn’t just in the free accommodation, but it‘s also beneficial because you’re staying with someone that knows the area.

Travel Insurance Is Essential

It’s no doubt that travel insurance is always a good idea when you travel, but especially from the United States to Canada. However, if you’re not a Canadian citizen, but you become ill when traveling to the country, always know that it will cost you a lot of money.

In addition, if you’re choosing your health insurance policy, make sure that you read the fine print and check that you’re covered for any and in Canada, such as skiing. So, always know that travel insurance is necessary even if you’re relocating from the United States or Mexico to Canada.

Get Ready For a Diverse Nation

Of course, Canada is indeed a diverse nation inhabiting tons of cultures across the world. Cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and all of the other main centers in Canada have lots of cultures, food, and plenty of things to do. Therefore, if you’re planning to move to Canada for the first time, you should be ready for a diverse nation. Moreover, Canada has a population of just 36 million, and it’s unpopulated.

Your Language Is Recognized

One of the most important things to know about moving to Canada is that you’ll definitely see your tribe in this country. While there’s also a huge French-speaking population, with over 7.2 million people speaking it as their first language, you can see people speaking English and other languages in Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions about Moving to Canada

Before we talk about moving your UK Pension to Canada, let us look at some of the general information that is relevant to this topic.

In general, some people want to retire in Canada and for that, they want to transfer their pension plan to Canada. In most cases, transferring a pension to Canada from another country seems to be rather advantageous.

However, one should always contact their financial planner before making such important decisions so that they can be sure of all the potential advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits of transferring a pension to Canada – People should be aware that transferring a pension to Canada may involve taxes and it is wise to take note of all the details related to taxes before doing so.

Nevertheless, transferring your pension to Canada allows you to have a happy life after retirement.

By transferring the pension to Canada, an individual can reduce the paperwork involved, and would not be required to deal with many tax agencies.

Also, he or she can avoid the discomfort caused by the fluctuation in currency exchange rates which sometimes decrease in value while resulting in a loss.

If the individual dies, the assets would be held in Canada by that time and there would be a single tax agency to deal with.

However, transferring a pension into Canada is not as simple as it sounds because it is considered a complex process.

There are some factors to be taken into careful consideration such as the effective regulations, penalties (if any), income taxes, other taxes, etc., while transferring a pension into Canada or passing them on to the next generations after the death of an individual.

Eligibility – To know whether your pension qualifies to be transferred, two major aspects are to be noted. The first one is your residency status while the second one is the type of your pension plan.

To be able to transfer your pension to Canada, a person should be a Canadian resident for tax purposes. Some people might be citizens of Canada, yet they may not qualify as residents for tax purposes.

Apart from that, there may be certain terms and conditions of pension plans that won’t allow an individual to transfer their pension plans to Canada.

For instance, people can’t transfer their UK pensions to Canada until they reach a specific age. Therefore, it is highly suggested to be aware of all the terms and conditions of your pension plan before transferring the pension to Canada.

Foreign pension plan benefits to an RRSP – Well, to determine whether your foreign pension plan benefits can be rolled over to an RRSP, you must have to consult with your financial advisor.

The financial advisor would be able to tell if your pension plan is eligible according to the Income Tax Act.

If your pension plan is eligible, you will be allowed to make a special RRSP contribution. There won’t be a specific requirement of having an available RRSP contribution space for being able to profit from this option.

Even if your pension plan is not eligible, your funds can be transferred to your RRSP.

Nevertheless, you won’t be able to profit from a special RRSP contribution and your general contribution would be affected because of this. There is even a possibility of double taxation in such cases.

Taxes – The amount payable depends on various factors, which is why you should have proper tax calculations before you can transfer your funds.

The factors that are to be noted are the foreign taxes to be paid during the time of withdrawal and the credit for foreign taxes paid. Depending on the tax agreement held between Canada and the other country, income tax rules apply.

When a person is required to pay taxes in a foreign country, he or she can get all the funds or a part of the funds while being offered a tax credit on the foreign taxes paid.

This tax credit should be applied to their income tax return during the year in which they transfer the money.

The calculation of taxes tends to be quite complex, and some conditions are to be satisfied. For this, you must acquire advice from your tax planner or financial advisor.

Other fees – Penalties and some additional costs may apply depending on the amount that is withdrawn from the pension plan. Some other factors also influence these costs, i.e., age, duration of the pension plan, pension plan provider, etc.

These penalties and additional costs such as transfer fees are not eligible to be claimed as a credit for the foreign taxes paid.

Having discussed that, let us have a look at the scenario with the USA and France before we get to ‘Transferring UK pension to Canada’.

United States – In the United States, a 401(k) plan is similar to an employer pension plan in Canada, and at the same time, there is IRA that is somewhat similar to an RRSP.

In general, the contributions made to a 401(k) plan could be transferred to Canada, for which the contributions should have been made while the person was not a Canadian resident.

Along with that, a person’s residency status also has an impact on the rules and regulations related to pension transfers.

France – For some pension plans and annuities in France, taxes are imposed by the French government and not by the Canadian government. However, this would result in double taxation when the amount is transferred into your RRSP.

Transferring UK Pensions to Canada:

To discuss the process of transferring UK Pensions to Canada, you must get to know some general information.

First, let us know what can be transferred and what cannot be transferred.

Defined Benefit Pension

It is not possible to transfer defined benefit pension directly to Canada. However, arrangements can be made for pension payments to be due under some schemes.

By doing so, the payments would be made directly into the individual’s bank account after retirement as per the existential currency exchange rates at that time.

If the pension is not in payment, then a person can cash in the assets and make a cash equivalent transfer. This is calculated by an actuary (financial analyst) and won’t be the fund value.

In such a situation, the transfer can be made into a Canadian RSP. However, it is not so beneficial for an individual to opt for a cash-in value.

Defined Contribution Pension

A Defined Contribution Pension scheme of the UK can be transferred into a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) in Canada.

However, the transfer can be done only if the chosen Canadian product is present in the list of the UK ROPS (Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme).

Income Drawdown

Income Drawdown of a pension scheme of the UK can be transferred into a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) in Canada.

However, the transfer can be done only if the chosen Canadian product is present in the list of the UK ROPS (Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme).

Annuity (in payment)

An annuity is a fixed amount that is paid to an individual every year, and it cannot be directly transferred to Canada.

Anyhow, arrangements can be made for pension payments to be due under some schemes, through which, the payments would be made directly into the individual’s bank account after retirement (as per the existential currency exchange rates).

UK State Pension

If you have worked as an employee in UK’s public sector, then you won’t be allowed to transfer your government state pension to a Canadian state pension.

Nevertheless, you are allowed to claim your UK state pension after reaching the normal state pension age while living as a UK pensioner in Canada.

For this, the payments would be made directly into your bank account after retirement (as per the existential currency exchange rates).

NHS (National Health Service) pension

NHS pension can be transferred to another UK pension scheme, but it can’t be transferred to Canada.

The reason for that is the availability of exceptional benefits offered with the NHS pension, which makes it to be one of the best pension plans all over the world.

Note – If you have a UK pension savings scheme, you should stop contributing towards it after moving to Canada within 5 years.

There is a limit, i.e., £3,600 per year, for 5 years and after that, the individual cannot contribute even if they have a UK bank account.

QROPS – Before we can talk about the pension transfer let us have a look at QROPS. In general, most people transfer non-government pensions to Canada with the help of Canadian QROPS RRSPs.

‘QROPS’ stands for ‘Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension’ and ‘RRSP’ stands for ‘Registered Retirement Savings Plan’. Also, you might hear ‘RRIF’, which stands for ‘Registered Retirement Income Fund’.

Direct transfers can’t be made into QROPS RRIF and a person should transfer the pension to QROPS RRSP first before they can transfer their pension into a QROPS RRIF.

Any pension plan can be transferred to Canada, only with the help of a Qualifying Recognized Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPS) as it is the only financial instrument to do so.

In October 2019, there were only two companies that were approved by the UK government to maintain QROPS accounts. Those two companies were ‘IA Clarington’ and ‘IAG’.

However, in January 2020, another company named ‘Cidel Alternate Retirement Plan (CARP)’ was also added to this list.

You should also consider the availability of QROPS in Canada if you are already living in Canada or consider moving there so that you can get access to your UK pension.

Transfers made to ROPS, which is not qualified, would be considered an unauthorized payment while having a surcharge of 15% and can range up to 55%.

Some major benefits – Given below is a list of some of the major benefits of transferring pensions with the help of QROPS.

– You can bring back your investments into your home country.

– You will be able to avoid paying additional charges in the form of currency conversion charges.

– Complex tax issues could be solved on the surplus Lifetime Allowance (LTA) limits. By the time of writing this article, the current limit is at £1,073,100 while being further to UK’s March 2021 budget and is frozen until 2026. The tax on excess for transferring to QROPS is 25%.

– The income stream would be identified easily, and the chance of higher income is made possible.

– The funds are also flexible as they exist within an RRSP structure and are not locked in.

– The investment choices also increase by a lot, when a person opts for QROPS.

– The process of estate administration is also done easily and effectively.

Who needs QROPS – So, who can opt for QROPS? Let’s find out.

– Any person holding a non-state pension scheme who is a taxpayer in Canada and is willing to live in Canada for a minimum of 5 years.

– A person should have an age of at least 55 years to be able to open a QROPS account.

– Defined Benefit pensions and Defined Contribution pensions greater than £30,000, while having a guarantee of what a person would be paid when they retire require an FCA approved, qualified UK financial planner to complete analysis of a person’s pension scheme and offer a certificate of advice.
In the UK, the number of firms that have the required qualifications and specialize in this service is few. You can consult us to get the services regarding this aspect, which are proven to be beneficial.

– Public-sector pensions such as pensions related to National Health Service, Teachers, Civil Service, etc., might not be transferred outside of UK.

Crucial information related to a QROPS transfer – Let us now know about the important information regarding a QROPS transfer.

– Mutual funds and segregated funds are the only available options as of now.

– Most people don’t know the fact that a QROPS account can only be opened by an MFDA licensed advisor and not an IIROC broker.

– A QROPS can only be set up in the form of an RRSP or RRIF, while it is not possible to transfer to RRIF directly. Also, the individual should have an age of at least 55 years to be able to open a QROPS account.

– The minimum age requirement is 55 years according to the regulations in the UK, and the benefits cannot be enjoyed before that. Arrangements made in QROPS offer more amount of flexibility, the potential for higher income, and an increased amount of freedom compared to a UK pension.

– The transfers are made in British Pounds and the institution that receives them would convert the money into Canadian dollars as per the existential currency exchange rate of the day on which the funds are deposited.

– The preferred way of transferring funds is via an electronic wire transfer, and in some cases, it is done with the help of a cheque.

– Even if multiple pensions have been transferred, there is no necessity for opening multiple QROPS as a single QROPS should suffice.

– Defined Benefit pension transfers are much more complex and take up to 3-6 months to get deposited.

– Defined Contribution pension transfers happen within a few weeks as there is no requirement for advice.

Information on taxes – As with any other financial instrument, taxation is a very important aspect regarding QROPS, and therefore, let us know about the general information related to taxes.

Similar to Canadian RRSPs and RRIFs, withholding taxes are applicable on the funds withdrawn from a QROPS account and this specific amount is added to the individual’s taxable income in that particular tax year.

Non-UK residents are allowed to enjoy a tax-free lump sum amount of 25% of the entire funds in the account. The rest is taxed as income as per the Canadian tax rules.

It is better to contact your pension provider to know whether you can access the 25% before the pension transfer because it may vary.

The institution providing QROPS is necessitated to report all the transfers and withdrawals made from a QROPS in the first 10 years after the actual transfer date to HMRC.

People who transferred to QROPS before 6th April 2017 should have to be non-UK residents for at least 5 tax years before making a withdrawal.

For those who transferred to QROPS after 6th April 2017, the residence period was extended to 10 consecutive tax years. Keeping both instances in mind, the situation is often referred to as ‘5 or 10 years non-residence rule’.

Payments and transfers from a QROPS on 6th April 2017 or after that are subject to rules regarding UK taxation for five years after the transfer date, which is regardless of their residency period as a non-UK resident.

This is called the ‘5 years from Transfer rule’ and as a person has to be more than 55 years old to open a QROPS in Canada, there won’t be any tax implications.

When you are a UK resident while withdrawing from a QROPS, the member payment charges and taxes would be a lot.

When an individual’s payments come under the category of ‘unauthorized payments’, they are subject to UK taxes and other penalties (if any). The transactions are reviewed by the HMRC and there can be an unauthorized payment charge of 40% along with a possible surcharge of 15%.

Pension funds are generally tested against the LTA available, and there would be a fee of 25% known as ‘LTA charge’ imposed on the excess.

When the transferred amount does not exceed the LTA, there are no additional tax charges.

When the pension exceeds the usual LTA limit, it is suggested to contact a financial planner like us so that you can apply for pension protection, which can save a lot of money that goes to waste in the form of taxes.

Taxes imposed on the excess LTA cannot be claimed back with the help of any foreign tax treaties.

When you opt for a change in your residency status within the first 5 UK tax years, i.e., April 6th to April 5th, after the transfer has been made into QROPS, then the payment won’t be considered as a recognized transfer.

This means an unauthorized payment charge of at least 40% is applicable.

The overseas transfer charge of 25% can be avoided if the person can provide the information before the transfer. This indicates that the person is a resident of the country in which the QROPS transfer is being made.

The overseas transfer charge of 25% applies to the transferred amount if the individual becomes a resident of another country within five years as there won’t be any exemptions apply to the transfer by then.

Bottom Line:

Even though this method is considered an excellent opportunity for getting hold of the assets along with maximum flexibility, one should always be highly attentive to the planning process.

If not done properly, there can be heavy tax implications and additional charges as mentioned in this article.

The tax treaty between Canada and UK does not prevent the Canadian government from taxing people on their pension transfers.

This treaty also makes it clear that the payments obtained from the UK and paid to Canadian residents shall only be taxed by the Canadian government.

Alternatively, you can find a UK pension plan that is suitable for your investment needs while living in Canada.

It is highly recommended that you opt for services from a financial planner before getting involved with the process of transferring pensions from the UK while being a resident of Canada.

Moving to Vancouver 2021 – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Vancouver is one of the largest and most famous cities in Canada. It is located in the western part of the country, on the Pacific coast. For many of us, its name is heard, probably only thanks to the Winter Olympic Games, which were held here in 2010.

But in general for North America, this is a landmark place – a kind of center for new ideas and non-trivial views. For example, in 1971, it was in Vancouver that the Greenpeace organization was founded, which later became the locomotive of the global environmental movement. And since 2014, the main TED conference has been held here – the world’s most famous platform for the exchange of new views, ideas and approaches.

Vancouver is loved by American filmmakers: it has a mild climate, gorgeous nature around, and the cost of filming is much lower than in similar locations in the United States. Therefore, films are often shot in the vicinity. If you’ve watched Me, Robot, Deadpool, or the Twilight saga, you now know that bits of Vancouver flashed across your screen.

Although Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada, only about 630,000 people live in it. True, together with neighboring cities that are part of the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area, the population already reaches 2.5 million people.

Have you finally decided to move to Vancouver? If a quiet life, a healthy lifestyle, active sports suits you, then moving will be the right decision. We will tell you more about moving to Vancouver and life in there, so you will have all the necessary information about your future. Below are some general points you have to know:

This is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Vancouver, nestled between the ocean and the mountains, is definitely beautiful! As a newcomer to the city, you will find yourself often distracted and admiring the beauty right outside the window.

In order to find a place to live, you have to fight.

Finding a place to live will not be fun at all. Considering that the level of vacant apartments is less than 1%, vacant apartments are usually dismantled on the same day. You will have to be quick and persistent, and you will need a bottle of champagne when your apartment search is successful.

Everything is expensive here.

Gas, food, rent… Everything is expensive here and people love to complain about it. For many, buying a home in Vancouver is a pipe dream, especially at current prices.

Cyclists run the city.

To be honest, they are everywhere – on the streets, in elevators with their bicycles. And don’t even think about complaining to your new friends about being annoyed by cyclists, because most likely they are one of them.

Rain does not stop anyone here.

In other cities, when it rains, people try to stay indoors and not go anywhere. But here it rains so often that it does not affect the plans of the inhabitants.

The nightlife is quite modest, you won’t have anything to write home about.

The nightlife here is not as lively as in other cities. If you are looking for and love violent parties, then perhaps this city is not for you. But don’t worry, we have a good alternative – pubs and bars. Yes, we love beer and we relax that way.

Cooking is thriving here.

Vancouver has a lot of delicious places and many different cuisines. Fresh local ingredients make this city a gourmet paradise. And of course, having tried sushi here, you will hardly be able to eat sushi in your hometown. Sushi in Vancouver is delicious.

Find out what Downtown Eastside is and where it is located.

East Hastings – from Carrall to Gore Ave – is one of North America’s most infamous streets. Here they know what poverty and misery are. If you’re new to the city, find out what to expect from this street and get around it better. There you will not be laughing.

Find out if you are eligible to enter Canada

Before proceeding with your plans to move, you should check if you are eligible to travel to Canada. You may be barred from immigrating for one of many reasons.

These reasons include:

– for security reasons, including

espionage

sabotage (attempts to overthrow the government, etc.)

violence or terrorism, or

membership in organizations that are involved in similar cases

– violations of human rights or international rights, including

war crimes

crimes against humanity

being a high-ranking official in government, being accused of gross violations of human rights or being subject to international sanctions

the commission of a serious crime, which is punishable by imprisonment for at least 10 years

if the person has been convicted of crimes such as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

membership in an organization that is involved in organized crime, human smuggling and money laundering

health

– financial reasons

low level of earnings / insufficient amount of funds in the account, inability to provide financially for oneself / family members

– forgery of documents

misleading, providing false information or hiding information

– Failure to comply with any provision of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA)

– if one member of your family is “inadmissible” (there were problems when checking)

There are many so-called immigration programs in Canada. Each such immigration program represents a specific set of requirements and procedures required for a candidate to go through the immigration process and obtain an immigrant visa. Distinguish between federal and provincial immigration programs to Canada.

Federal programs operate throughout Canada, without being tied to a specific province (except for Quebec). Provincial programs are geared to the requirements of specific provinces and are designed so that an immigrant is most likely to stay in a particular province.

So immigration to Canada is a complex process, but quite feasible. How to leave for Canada in 2021 is probably one of the most popular questions among many expats. In this article, we tried to answer this question in as much detail as possible, describing the main programs for immigration to Canada and other ways in 2021, how people obtain Canadian residency and citizenship.

Today, there are 12 main ways to move to Canada:

Earn a passing score in Express Entry

Immigrate to Canada through study / education

Move to Canada as a qualified professional

Immigrate to Canada through a nanny or caregiver

Invest in a country

Get married / marry a Canadian

Business immigration

Refugee

Pilot atlantic program to Canada

Rural and Northern Immigration

BC Tech Pilot for IT Professionals

Immigration by International Experience Canada

Let’s review each method and you’ll understand which one is the most suitable for you.

Method 1: Get passing points at Express Entry program

In January 2015, Canada launched one of the most advanced immigration programs, which is called Express Entry. The main purpose of this program is a faster selection of highly qualified immigrants through special tools.

Express Entry is built on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which evaluates the applicants based on their personal information.

Express Entry points are calculated based on the following factors:

Skills and work experience.

Education.

Knowledge of English and / or French.

Language ability and education of the candidate’s husband/wife or partner.

Availability of a job offer is supported by a labor market impact assessment (LMIA).

Availability of a provincial government program for permanent residence.

Language skills, education, and work experience presence, that result will help the applicant to be employed.

Method 2: Immigrate to Canada through studies

This is probably the most popular way to immigrate to Canada. The essence of the program is simple, you get an education from a Canadian public university, paying for everything from your pocket (the price of annual tuition varies from 16 to 40 thousand per year), after receiving your education, you receive a work visa and through subsequent work experience in the specialty that you graduated from Canada, you can obtain residency after citizenship.

Method 3: Leave for Canada as a qualified specialist

If you are exactly the specialist that Canada needs, then you have a good chance to leave, but again, just being a specialist is not enough.

You will need to provide a confirmed, certified and translated work experience, a diploma in the specialty, pass an English exam to the required level, provide data on property, a police clearance certificate, undergo a medical examination, and most importantly – provide an offer about working from a Canadian employer.

If all this is in your hands – then there are excellent chances for immigration to Canada. Those specialists who are on the list of in-demand specialists for immigration to Canada in 2021 have the higher opportunities to move to Vancouver.

Method 4: Immigrate to Canada through Nanny or Nurse Work

Another popular program by which many leave and immigrate to Canada. Here, too, not everything is so simple. In short: you need to find an employer and work for him for 2-3 years.

A big plus in looking for work as a nanny or nurse will be the presence of a driver’s license. In May 2019, the Trudeau Government launched a new pilot immigration program for nannies and caregivers (or rather, even two) that will allow care professionals, elderly and children to come to Canada with their families, as well as offer them the opportunity to move to the country for permanent residence.

Method 5: Investing in Canada

To put it bluntly, you can simply buy a Canadian residence for a minimum investment of $ 200,000 ($ 800,000 for a province in Quebec). There is nothing more to say, the decision is yours.

Method 6: Marriage / Marry a Canadian

Probably one of the most popular Google searches related to many countries. As far as Canada is concerned, simply marrying to immigrate to Canada will not be enough.

The process stretches over many years, and the host (who lives in Canada) will be obliged to sponsor you for 2 years. There should be a level of trust. That’s not all, your marriage will most likely be tested for suitability, and this includes a bunch of questions, for sure, if you read about these programs, you know the details.

You are called for an interview, they can both with your spouse and without, and they ask you a bunch of questions to make sure that the relationship is real.

Canada also has the right to request information about correspondence, calls, photos, and so on. In general, the process is not easy and energy + stressful, so think twice if you decide to enter Canada in this way. Same-sex marriage is legal in Canada.

Method 7: Moving to Canada under the program for entrepreneurs or business immigration

The main and general purpose of the program is to create jobs for Canadians. If you have an idea and related business plan that will satisfy the Canadian government, then you are welcome. Three basic requirements:

have $ 300,000 net worth of personal and business assets;

hire at least one Canadian;

to found business for at least three years.

There are certain concessions for farmers.

Method 8: Refugee status

There is a 1% chance, that before arriving to Canada without visas and other documentation, you will be able to apply for a refugee status at the border. It is recommended to have the right forms with you.

If they are not there, then it will be possible to fill out everything on the spot, after which the immigration officer will conduct an interrogation.

If you can convince the officer during the interview that certain serious circumstances forced you to flee your country, then you may be given the green light to immigrate to Canada.

Method 9: Pilot Atlantic Program to Canada

The Atlantic Pilot Program to Canada (AIPP) is one of the simplest immigration programs in the world (respectively, the easiest way to leave for Canada), with simplified requirements for almost every indicator: language, education, work experience.

The program aims to settle Atlantic Canada and guide labor deficits in four Atlantic provinces of Canada.

The hardest part of this program is finding an employer, but recently each of the provinces published a list of employers through which you can immigrate under this program in 2021.

Method 10: Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, five-year pilot program

On January 25, the government of Canada announced the new Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot program, which aims to attract skilled foreign workers to rural and northern communities in Canada.

The program includes cities with 50,000 or less population, or located at a distance of at least 75 km from a metropolis with a population of 100,000 or more. At the moment, applications are being collected from cities until March 1, so stay tuned.

Method 1 11: BC Tech Pilot for IT Professionals

Introduced in 2017, the BC Tech Pilot program provides a fast track to Canadian permanent residency for international IT talent in British Columbia. On June 6, 2020, the program had been extended until 2021.

Applicants must have a British Columbia job offer from one of the 29 eligible pilot jobs that lasts at least one year and with at least 120 days remaining until the end of the offer.

Method 12: Immigration to International Experience Canada

The International Experience Canada (IEC) program is open to young people who want to live and work in Canada on a temporary basis.

Young people between the ages of 18 and 35 from one of 36 countries (Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are included in the list of these countries. Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are not included) eligible to participate can now create a profile and, if they are eligible to be included in their country’s candidate pool for their chosen category or categories. After your temporary stay, you can turn the IEC into a path to permanent residence.

New Immigration Programs in 2021

In Canada, in May 2021, workers in vital industries, international graduate students and French speakers will have six new ways to obtain permanent residency.

On April 14, Canadian Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced new programs. Three of the new programs will set the stage for permanent resident status for 90,000 new immigrants this year.

The other three streams for French-speaking immigrants will not have admission restrictions. The new programs will target temporary workers in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as those at the forefront of other important sectors of the economy, as well as international students who graduate from Canadian institutions.

From May 6, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (IRCC) will begin accepting applications for the following three streams:

20,000 applications for temporary health care workers

30,000 applications for temporary workers in other selected life-saving occupations

40,000 applicants-international students who have completed their studies

Canadian studies establishments will accept applications until November 5, 2021 or until the maximum number of applications is reached. This new government policy applies to workers in 40 medical professions, as well as 95 other important professions in various fields such as nursing and food production and distribution.

To be eligible for participation, workers must have at least one year of work experience in Canada in the healthcare or other pre-approved life-saving profession. International graduates must have completed a qualifying Canadian higher education program within the past four years, and no earlier than January 2017.

Graduates and workers must be proficient in one of Canada’s official languages, meet general eligibility requirements, and be eligible to work and work in Canada at the time of application. They must also live in any of Canadian provinces.

“This new policy will help those in temporary status plan for their future in Canada and play a key role in our economic recovery,” Mendicino said in a press release. “Our message to them is simple: your status may be temporary, but your contribution is durable – and we want you to stay.”

Immigration and Relocation to Canada in 2021: Trends

On October 30, 2020, Immigration Canada announced its Immigration Plan 2021-2023, in which it stated that it would target the highest immigration rate in its history.

Over the next three years, Canada will strive to accept the following number of new immigrants:

2021: 401,000 immigrants

2022: 411,000 immigrants

2023: 421,000 immigrants

The only time Canada received over 400,000 immigrants a year was in 1913, when it welcomed 401,000 new arrivals. She never came close to that figure again.

The 2021-2023 Immigration Plan aims to accommodate about 60 percent of all immigrants through economy class programs, including through the Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program.

The Immigration Plan is the most important immigration announcement the government of Canada makes every year. It talks about the number of new permanent residents that Canada intends to accept in the coming years, and under which categories Canada intends to accept them. Canada welcomes immigrants in the following categories: economic; a family; refugees; and on humanitarian and charitable grounds.

Earlier in 2020, on March 12, the federal government announced that Canada would aim to welcome over a million new permanent residents between 2020 and 2022. After a few days passed, Canada was forced to close its borders, as many other powerful countries did, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, Canada is likely to be well behind the 341,000 immigration target it has set for this year, but it has been running Express Entry qualifiers throughout the pandemic, leading Canada to break its Express Entry record in that year. year. In addition, selection for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is ongoing.

Moving To Canada Expat Guide – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

From 2021 to 2025, Canada will welcome more than two million new immigrants! To secure Canadian permanent residence, there are many pathways to consider. But in Canada, the immigration teams are committed to keeping things easy and simple. So, discover your Canadian immigration option today!

To create an expert entry to Canada, you have to pass through some credential assessment. Once this is done, a nervous wait ended and you’re halfway to your dreamland. In fact, with the uncertainty clouding over the U.S, it may come as no surprise seeing many U.S citizens turned their attention to Canada.

Why won’t they relocate? Well, Canada is known for being one of the most welcoming countries in the world. Besides, the country was built by immigrants, and Canadians don’t dispute this fact. Now, have you ever wondered why U.S residents immigrate to Canada? Let’s quickly take a look at the plethora of reasons.

Free Healthcare Facilities – As said in our previous post, Canada is a place for free universal healthcare. Aside from that, the country is known for its excellent healthcare system. Though, everyone receives the same level of care in some provinces after the Provincial Ministry of Health issues a card.

Statutory Holidays – In Canada, workers enjoy paid statutory holidays compared to the U.S. This is because; employers in the U.S are not required to pay employees for the time not worked. This way, many U.S citizens would love to relocate to Canada to enjoy paid statutory holidays.

Acceptance – When it comes to acceptance, Canada is more accepting of emigrants. Moreover, a recent global survey disclosed that Canada is the world’s most accepting country for migrants in this 21st century. Regardless of your age, you can relocate to Canada without disturbance.

Maternity Leave – Maternity leave in the U.S is just twelve weeks (unpaid maternity leave) for new parents. In Canada, parents can enjoy 35 to 61 weeks off. Aside from that, they also receive payment through Canada’s Employment Insurance (EI).

However, our main focus in this article revolves around moving to Canada. Not only that, but we will walk you through the different visas to get into China from Canada. In addition, you’ll understand how to find jobs remotely in Canada. To round it up, we compiled how to search for renting remotely and more.

Cost of Moving To Canada

Globally, Canada is rated very high regarding the quality of life, developed educational system, and good healthcare facilities. Moving to this country is not only a huge life decision but a reasonable breakthrough movement. Now, let’s share the total cost breakdown of the Canadian application.

In 2021, as an individual applicant, you would need approximately CAD 15,000 to immigrate to Canada. Meanwhile, couples would need nothing less than CAD 20,000, and families range from $24,000 to CAD 30,000. Take a look at the analysis below to understand the fee type and price range better.

Immigration Fee Type

Description

Individual Price

Couple Price

Couple /One Child

Couple / Two Children

Language Test including TEF, TCF, IELTS or CELPIP

Only Average Cost

300 CAD

650 CAD

600 CAD

600 CAD

Immigration/Educational Credential Evaluation

Average cost excluding international courier charges

200 CAD

450 CAD

450 CAD

450 CAD

Biometrics Support Type

The average cost for two or more people

85 CAD

200 CAD

250 CAD

250 CAD

Canadian Medical Exams

Average cost varies by country

150 CAD

170 CAD

170 CAD

170 CAD

Canadian Application Processing Fee

Total average cost

850 CAD

1,700 CAD

1,850 CAD

2,200 CAD

Permanent Residence Fee

Average cost assumed

300 CAD

600 CAD

600 CAD

650 CAD

Settlement Funds

Not available for Canadian Experience Class CEC)

12,980 CAD

16,200 CAD

19,800 CAD

24,000 CAD

Total

14,865 CAD

19,970 CAD

23,720 CAD

28,320 CAD

Cost of applying for Immigration to Canada

Before you assume everything analyzed above, let’s quickly walk you through how moving to Canada can affect your pocket. Of course, there are many ways to reduce the cost! One preferable method is to expect different prices of immigration fee type. Without further ado, here is the relationship between Canada, Europe, and the United States.

Europe/ Canada, and the United States

If the United States is generally believed to have the lowest net spending, and Western Europe invests more in this area, Canada should be in the middle. One good example of what differentiates Canada and the United States is the paid Maternity or paternity leave. Besides, the United States is known for its economic stature that doesn’t guarantee any paid maternity leave.

Food/Consumer Goods – Consumer goods, gas, and food are more expensive in Canada than in the United States and other European countries. Surprisingly, it’s not just getting there that can be expensive, but the cost of living in Canada is also expensive.

Overall, the cost of living in Canada is quite expensive than an average American used to be. Although some items are less expensive in Canada but you need to understand the comparison to other countries before you move to the country. However, you can save money by considering what’s less in Canada.

Healthcare Facilities in Canada

As aforementioned, the Canadian government helps its citizen by providing free healthcare facilities to the seniors, as well as the younger ones. Also, the countries have a decentralized, publicly funded health system called the Canadian Medicare. With this, every individual has their own cash assistance supported by the government.

Educational System

As the 2021 survey disclosed that international students occupy nearly 50 percent of the universities in Canada, it should be noted that international students don’t have access to some scholarships and other benefits in Canada. A brief analysis of these universities is stated below.

Canadian University

Different cost per year

Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario

Average cost per year is about b$7,500

McGill University in Montreal, Quebec

Average cost per year is $5,000 to $7,500

Public University in Ottawa, Ontario

Average cost per year is $6,500 for undergraduate

Public University of Virginia, Charlottesville

Average cost per year is $17,500 to $50,000

Princeton University in Princeton

Average cost per year is $45,300

Options for Migrating To Canada in 2021

With our expat guide, moving to Canada will become relatively easy. Immigration to Canada doesn’t seem easy as you think. There are many steps you’ll have to take to apply successfully and get approval. However, we’ve made the process easy. Check the best options for migrating to Canada now.

Express Entry to Canada

The Express entry program to Canada allows immigrants to live and work in Canada. This is a new system that allows citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC) to pro-actively assess people that are skilled, qualified, and also possessed the relevant qualifications under the country’s federal economic immigration programs.

Family Class sponsorship Program

Family reunification remains one of the cornerstones of Canada’s immigration. Here, families in Canada can sponsor their relatives to reside in Canada permanently. But to qualify for this family class sponsorship, you’ll have to be a Canadian citizen or have a permanent resident card in Canada.

LMIA Work Visa

If you’ve applied for the first two and it’s not working, consider the LMIA work visa. This option for migrating to Canada involves securing a Canadian job offer and later get a work permit. However, its process is quite challenging but can lead to Canadian permanent residence in the long run.

Investor Category Program

The Canadian investor program is designed for high-net-worth individuals who have managed businesses overseas. By allowing experienced people to invest in the country, they may likely get residential permits to live and invest in Canada without disturbance from a third party or the government.

Other Options for Canadian Migration

Aside from the ones mentioned above, there are other ways to obtain Canadian immigration. Some of these ways include the CEC category, Refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate application, and the Atlantic immigration pilot program.
