There are many reasons you may want to move abroad, but whatever the case may be, there is always a destination that makes more sense for an expat. If you do not know where to go and you would like to live in a warmer place with a lower cost of living, then Southern Europe is what you might need. Here are the top seven reasons you should consider living in Southern Europe.

Low Cost of Living

Southern Europe is a trendy destination for expats worldwide because it has a lower cost of living when compared to other European countries, which would be a lot more expensive for expats. In Southern European countries, the standard of living is also higher than that of other countries.

Great Climate

Southern Europe has great weather all year, which means that there is one less reason why you shouldn’t consider living in this part of the world. The climate is similar to what you would find in the Caribbean islands and Florida, making it a top choice for expats.

Perfect Location

The locations of the southern European countries make it easy for expats to travel around Europe, and even though it is not such a big continent, if you wanted to go somewhere else, it would be very difficult. Another great thing about living in this part of the world is that since it has such temperate weather, you would not have to worry about extreme cold or heat.

Relaxed Lifestyle

Southern Europe is also different because it offers a relaxed lifestyle for expats who are not exactly fond of big cities or crowded areas. This region has lots of small towns and cities that people can explore, making it an excellent choice for those who are used to a more laidback lifestyle.

Great Travel Destination

The last reason why living in southern Europe would be suitable for expats is because it makes an excellent travel destination for those who are not residing there all year round. The weather is usually pretty good, allowing exploring the beautiful beaches and other great outdoor activities.

Historical Locations

There are also plenty of historical locations that people can visit when living in the southern European countries, which makes it even more appealing to expats who want to explore everything Europe has to offer. The regions might be different from what you are used to, but there is something for everyone here, and it is definitely worth trying out.

Business Opportunities

Business opportunities are definitely something that expats should consider when moving to a new destination. In Southern Europe, there are plenty of business opportunities for those willing to go there. Since this part of the world is doing pretty well right now, it would be an excellent choice for entrepreneurs who want to expand their business.

What are the best international schools in Cayman Islands – part 1-that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

The Cayman Islands is one of the British overseas territories that recently became one of the main attractions and favorite spots for tourists and expats from all over the world. The fact that the Cayman Islands is considered as one of the huge offshore tax places in the world has only resulted to more and more expats settling there over the years.

Most of the citizens, expats in the Cayman Islands and settlers in the territory come here from the UK, USA, Jamaica and Canada, and therefore they predominantly speak English. A very small proportion of the settlers are Spanish citizens and members of the Patwa Jamaican community.

The Cayman Islands include 3 main islands, namely Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Each of these islands has its unique features and attractions. So, if you’re into scuba diving or snorkeling, head to Grand Cayman. If deep sea fishing is your preference, Cayman Brac is the island for you, and wildlife lovers can head to Little Cayman.

Living in the Cayman Islands can give you a feeling of a mixture of old and new, traditional and modern, with British and American influences. While making serious steps to save their old traditions, the Caymanians are very proud of the progress and increase their country has made during this time.

The country’s political stability – a factor of great importance in the financial and tourism industries – is largely due to the fact that the inhabitants of the Cayman Islands have taken the lead in commerce, public service, a variety of professions and skilled occupations.

One of the main reasons that such a big number of expats plan to move to the Cayman Islands is because it offers them a long-awaited break from their dynamic lives. They can enjoy the same relaxed lifestyle almost every day, which is nothing more than a dream when they live in a big city.

Let’s find out what other reasons might prompt you to consider moving to this majestic paradise?

1. Beautiful beaches

Perhaps the biggest reason expats move to the Cayman Islands is because of the beautiful beaches they have. It is rare to find any other Caribbean island that looks so clean and beautiful from afar. Boating, snorkeling, kitesurfing and other activities for children are very common on these beaches. The climate is also quite pleasant, so children can play heartily on these beaches.

2. Tax-free zone

Duty Free Zone The fact that the Cayman Islands are tax havens makes them very popular destinations for people all over the world. In the Cayman Islands, there is no tax on what you earn or what you eat and drink. Instead, the government receives the funds through fees and import duties, as the country has to import everything from time to time. Very wealthy people often invest their money in the country itself to buy real estate or contribute to the many trusts located in the Cayman Islands. If you are looking for a low-tax retirement in the Caribbean, the Caymans are the natural choice.

3. Weather

When we compare to other beaches, the Cayman Islands’ hospitable weather attracts many expats throughout the year. The rainy season lasts six months from May to November. Most of the time, however, it’s just a passing shower. Summer in the Cayman Islands can be too hot for some expats.

4. Cultural diversity

The diversity that you can see in the Cayman Islands is very surprising, moreover when you learn that people from over different developed countries moved to there before settling permanently. This left behind a very diverse cultural mix. It’s great to see this melting pot of cultures in such a small country, each celebrating each other’s beliefs and differences. Such a varied mix is contagious and won’t let you go anytime soon.

5. Food

Several countries have influenced food choices in the Cayman Islands. Over the years, the kitchen collection has become a favorite for everyone who loves to eat. You can choose from a huge variety of cuisines, much better than you can ever find in any other Caribbean country.

Education in the Cayman Islands

If children accompany you when moving to the Cayman Islands, they must be approved as dependents of your work permit. This will require a letter confirming that they are enrolled in a school on the island, or documents proving that you have enrolled them in a recognized online school/home school program.

Expatriate children are not allowed to attend public schools in the Cayman Islands, and waiting lists (especially for lower grades) at international private schools can belong. It is advisable to start the school application process as soon as you decide to move. Most schools will require your child (s) to have at least two years of official and academic transcripts, as well as an entrance test and interview.

The education system quality is high in Grand Cayman. International schools include Cayman International School in Camana Bay, Cayman Prep and High School, St. Ignatius Catholic School, Grace Christian Academy, First Baptist Christian School, Montessori by the Sea, and Triple C.

For expatriates interested in continuing education, the island has a law school, a medical school, and UCCI, which offers undergraduate programs. Below we will review some of the best international schools for expats who are moving with their families and kids.

International schools in the Cayman Islands are a very good choice for many expat parents who are looking for assuring the continuity in their children’s education. Standards are generally high and teaching staff are are usually well-trained.

These international schools offer a range of curriculum activities, which are a great option for expat parents hoping to give their children a smooth transition into life in Cayman Islands.

Cayman International School (CIS)

Cayman International School started as Faulkner Academy with lofty ideals in October 1994. The school was acquired by International Schools Services (ISS) in 2002 and the name of the school was changed to Cayman International School (CIS) in 2003.

CIS is a non-sectarian co-educational private school for students aged 2 through 12. It was created to provide an American / international educational program for the dependents of multinational professionals living in the Cayman Islands. The school buildings were provided through the generosity of the William and Claire Dart Foundation.

Cayman International School is administered by International School Services (ISS). ISS is a non-profit corporation headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, USA. She is engaged in the professional development of children attending overseas schools around the world. Since 1955, ISS has developed into a dynamic educational force in the overseas community. ISS is a global leader in providing a wide range of quality educational services for schools, teachers, families, and corporations.

The mission of ISS-operated schools “is to provide a comprehensive accredited American / international college preparatory education program that ensures all students become successful learners of good character by acting as responsible leaders within a culturally diverse global community.”

ISS-administered schools follow the US calendar, strive for US accreditation and offer quality study programs based on the US and international standards, and recognized exemplary teaching strategies.

The goal of ISS Schools is to create an educational environment in which students develop healthy self-esteem, learn self-discipline, acquire knowledge and achieve competencies in a range of skill areas. They will also gain insight into their national heritage by recognizing that they belong to the larger global community.

Accreditation

Cayman International School strives to ensure that the education provided meets an acceptable level of quality as measured by several accreditation agencies.

The Middle States Schools and Colleges Association (MSA) provides school accreditation and improvement services for American international schools overseas and in the Caribbean, as well as schools in the US Mid-Atlantic region. CIS has received full accreditation up to grade 12 from the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) has authorized CIS to present the Diploma Program in Grades 11 and 12. Schools wishing to offer any of the IB programs must go through a rigorous process called authorization, which is similar to accreditation, but with a focus on curriculum and only teaching standards. CIS received permission to present the Diploma Program in March 2008.

The Cayman Islands Education and Evaluation Standards Unit (ESAU) is the government agency responsible for independently evaluating the public and private schools in the Cayman Islands. ESAU’s mission is to contribute to the continuous improvement of education in schools. CIS was inspected by ESAU in November 2007. CIS is committed to educational excellence.

Cayman International School is a member of the Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA). AASSA’s mission is to provide and promote programs and services for member schools whose primary language of instruction is English, with the aim of improving the quality of American and international education in the Americas.

The 8 best banking options for digital nomads living overseas – that will be the topic of today’s article.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

Digital nomads are people who use telecommunication technology to make a living and lead a nomadic lifestyle. This kind of employees usually work remotely, like from foreign countries, public libraries, coworking spaces or cafes. This is often achieved through the use of devices with wireless Internet access, such as smartphones or mobile hotspots. Successful digital nomads often have the need to develop high levels of self-confidence and self-discipline.

The digital nomad uses online (or “digital”) tools to work from anywhere. This kind of work is also called “location independent”.

Digital nomads are people who use wireless digital technology to carry out their work duties and are generally nomadic. These workers usually work remotely – from home, in cafes, public libraries, and even from recreational vehicles – to accomplish tasks and goals that would normally be accomplished in a single stationary workplace.

The digital nomad community has organized various events to host its members. The most popular types of digital nomads are:

retirees or semi-retirees,

independently wealthy people or entrepreneurs,

remote workers (most often younger ones).

People usually want to become a digital nomad for different reasons, and the first one can be the desire to be financially independent and locationally independent. During that time when digital nomads enjoy the advantages of freedom and flexibility, they see one biggest problem – called loneliness, which can consequently cause other problems.

Lifestyle also comes with other challenges such as securing international health insurance with global coverage, complying with various local laws, obtaining work visas and paying taxes in accordance with local and local laws.

Who are digital nomads?

Digital nomads can be:

Freelancers who write, code, teach, run social media campaigns, and more for their clients online.

Professionals who provide online / remote services including legal assistance, accounting or even consulting.

Entrepreneurs who manage their team with online tools

Employees who work remotely in a more traditional company

People who create and sell digital products like e-books, manuals, online subscription services, etc.

Digital nomads mostly are young people and they are usually working in industries such as marketing, design, information technology, writing, media, tutoring, or consulting. According to a 2020 study by MBO Partners, there are 10.9 million digital nomads in the US alone, with an additional 19 million Americans reporting that they are considering a digital nomad lifestyle.

Digital nomads can be either remote workers or knowledge process outsourcing workers. While most homeworkers and freelancers are technically digital nomads, the term is most often used to describe people living or traveling abroad or inland while working. Some digital nomads have a wide range of clients and make a living by combining jobs, while others enter into formal or semi-formal agreements with clients that guarantee a certain amount of work or paid time.

Digital nomads are often people who want freedom and flexibility in their job choices and travel times. Digital nomads often live a minimal existence rich in experience rather than physical objects. They get the opportunity to explore new cultures, leaving temporary roots in many places each year. The digital nomad lifestyle isn’t for everyone. If you can’t make enough money on the road, you may find yourself broke with no money to return home.

You may have to work unconventionally and manipulate multiple clients. Digital nomads must have reliable internet access and work and meet deadlines across time zones. Many digital nomads separate the feeling of loneliness, with no family or close friends in the city, and it can be difficult to establish long-term relationships. It can be expensive to purchase travel medical insurance, and even though health care in some countries is cheaper than in the United States.

Pros:

Freedom from the traditional office environment

Chance to travel and learn about new cultures

Time to do some outdoor hobbies like surfing

More control over your time

Cons:

Traveling regularly can be expensive

You may need to work with clients across multiple time zones

Loneliness or isolation from family and friends

Must be highly organized for maximum balance between life and work on the road

Digital nomads banking

Banking can be one of the major challenges for nomads when traveling and working, as each country they visit has its own banking system. So why do digital nomads need an alternative to traditional banking. In fact, many people around the world are looking for such alternatives.

This is true for younger generations, who rely on their mobile phones for absolutely everything and do not need a physical space for their banking tasks. And this is especially true for digital nomads who make their living while traveling – often with no real permanent residence to speak of.

Being a digital nomad, is also finding for you, your perfect banking option because you have faced at least one of these restrictions at traditional banks:

Confirmation of residency in the bank’s country is required

Failure to fully open an account online (you must personally report to your local branch)

Commission for receiving and / or withdrawing money in another currency

ATM card is blocked in less popular countries

Fees

Let’s now review some of the best banks for digital nomads and figure out all the pros and cons. Here are the most used banks:

Payoneer

Monese

PayPal

N26

Revolut

Charles Schwab

Monzo

TransferWise

Payoneer Quick Review

Payoneer is a world-class digital payment system that offers an attractive business account option for small and medium-sized businesses and sole proprietors who rely on frequent cross-border payments and receipts. Payoneer, especially known for its free account management, attractive international payments, and countless other useful features, offers many unique benefits to both small and medium-sized businesses and self-employed professionals as well as freelancers.

Nowadays, employers, employees and independent contractors are increasingly working overseas. However, due to currency exchange, the cost of the reward may be covered by onerous fees. These fees are especially expensive for business payments, which often significantly exceed personal payments.

However, while this is generally not a concern for large corporations (which tend to have their own payment networks and thus provide better rates), smaller companies and self-employed workers are particularly hard hit by high international money transfer fees. This is where Payoneer comes in. By offering a top-notch business account platform that connects local banking details across countries with cheap international payments, Payoneer can provide the ideal solution to meet the international payment needs of small and medium-sized businesses and sole proprietors.

Pros:

A wide range of payment services and solutions;

Prompt processing of payments from anywhere in the world;

Reasonably priced currency exchange fees.

Cons:

Many types of commissions can accumulate quickly;

Currency conversion is for business transactions only;

Strict terms of service;

Not ideal for purely international payments (this feature is best used through Payoneer accounts).

Monese Quick Review

Another rising star in the European digital banking arena is Monese. Like some of its more established digital banking competitors, Monese takes a mobile-first approach with a versatile and user-friendly app. You can open an account with instant access using EUR, GBP or RON. You do not need a physical address, but you need to reside in the EU or UK to open an account.

Monese offers a contactless MasterCard debit card that you can use at ATMs around the world, in a store or online without any fees. They also offer the option to open a personal account or a joint account with a partner, family member or friend, which comes in handy if you’re part of a digital nomad duo!

Monese gives you the opportunity to send money abroad in about 20 different currencies at the real-time exchange rate, that is cheaper than sending your money through a traditional bank. You can also attach your PayPal account with the help of your Monese app and register, moreover, you can collect and track Avios when you shop at the mentioned stores.

Monese is a good checking account option, especially for digital nomads from the UK or EU who often spend in British Pounds, Euros and Romanian Lei due to its excellent account and spending functions. Monese is also very popular with customers around the world for offering high quality products, even though it does not yet have its own banking license and is smaller than many of its competitors. On the other hand, however, Monese can be quite expensive, especially for foreign currency spending in currencies other than GBP, EUR, SEK and RON.

Pros:

Available even without proof of residence in the UK or EU;

Money transfers to more than 30 countries of the world;

Supports joint accounts and virtual cards in the UK.

Cons:

Does not offer overdrafts, interest or loans;

Renewal plans do not usually mean cost savings;

High commission for converting expenses not related to pounds sterling, euros, Swedish kronor and lei;

There is an additional charge for currency exchange on weekends.

PayPal Quick Review

Working from 90’s, PayPal is a true digital banking pioneer. It is by far the most established and most famous digital banking platform in the world and it is well known around the world. The company focuses on offering simple options for transferring money between countries.

PayPal serves 25 different currencies in over 200 countries. Unlike some younger competitors, they charge a percentage on their transfers instead of a flat rate. Depending on how large your transfer amount is, the commission can actually increase.

The advantage of PayPal is that it is so widely used that virtually anyone you deal with for billing, payments, transfers, etc. has an account, so business transactions are generally simple and convenient.

Pros:

Brand awareness and trust all over the world

Convenient mobile application

No commissions for sending money to family

Accepted on most websites

Easy billing, access to transaction history and financial records

Cons:

Higher fees than many competitors when sending money as part of a business transaction

Mandatory 1% commission to get instant access to your funds, otherwise you might have to wait a few days before a free bank transfer is available

Revolut Quick Overview

Revolut is another popular European bank account that customers can easily manage from their iPhone or Android mobile device through an intuitive app.

The coolest part about the Revolut account is that you can store up to five different currencies, which you can convert commission-free. You also receive a UK bank account number or a free EUR IBAN account and a MasterCard that you can use to withdraw money anywhere in the world.

Keep in mind that with a standard (free) account, you can only withdraw up to £ 200 or € 200 per month for free. The ATM fee is charged for monthly withdrawals in excess of this amount.
Charles Schwab Quick Overview

While we are not focusing on major financial institutions on this list, if you are a US resident, Charles Schwab is worth considering. According to statistics, many digital nomads love using it as a good and solid banking solution as it is a more stable banking option.

One feature that cannot be surpassed is their ATM refund policy for international fees. They actually refund all those international fees you collect along the way that you know can add up quickly. In addition, there is no minimum balance requirement.

It is required to create a brokerage account with a minimum amount of USD 1,000. But a way to get around this is to open an account with Schwab Bank High Yield Investor Checking, which can be easily linked to your brokerage account.

Pros:

No monthly fees or minimum balance requirements

Worldwide ATM Fee Refunds

Excellent customer service

Provides all the services of a traditional bank including investment services

Cons:

The user must be a US resident

Monzo Quick Overview

Monzo was founded recently, in 2016 as a prepaid Mastercard, which could be topped up through the application itself and can be used to withdraw funds abroad for free.

Monzo positions itself as a bank that lives on your smartphone and now has over four million customers using its debit card to manage their money and spending around the world. It even raised a record £ 1million in 90 seconds during a £ 20million crowdfunding campaign in 2018. Admittedly, this was something that didn’t suit me, as the unprofitable organization was offering clients to invest in its non-listed stock (non-listed stocks pose a high risk.

Inherently due to the fact that they are not traded on the stock exchange). In July 2020, Mono posted a record loss of £ 113.8 million in a clearly challenging year, heavily impacted by falling interest rates and a worldwide pandemic.

Pros:

Easy to install

Suitable for budgeting

Free expenses abroad.

Auto save

Overdraft and loans

Competitive savings interest rates

Cons:

Daily limits on withdrawals and expenses

Apps only – Internet required and no bank branches.

£ 1 fee for depositing cash to local PayPoint

You can deposit up to £ 1000 in cash every 6 months (£ 500 if you are 16-17).

TransferWise Quick Review

TransferWise is a UK based company that believes that money shouldn’t have borders. TransferWise was born, which generated accounts all over the world. Now, you simply deposit money into a TransferWise bank account in the country of your choice, and it pays your recipient at the correct exchange rate.

Since its inception in 2011, TransferWise has grown to 6 million customers and is backed by investors from companies like Virgin and PayPal.

TransferWise’s capabilities are divided into several categories depending on how you plan to use the service. At its core, TransferWise is a money transfer service that is most commonly used for international transfers in order to keep rates low and adhere to the actual exchange rate.

Most of the features we’ll list in our TransferWise review follow the same process when sending and receiving money as part of the service. TransferWise then converts the money or saves it in the same currency by transferring it to the account of your choice.

That’s pretty much everything TransferWise does. For some reason, the process of sending and / or receiving money abroad may seem daunting to you, but TransferWise’s interface makes it pretty straightforward and easy to use.

The app is easy to use for business and personal exchanges. You can view your transfer and payment history, send money to all your contacts, and convert money between your TransferWise accounts.

Another benefit of this app is the payment notifications you receive. You can also check the status of your payment if you need to provide any details.

TransferWise tells you exactly where the money is, whether it’s converted to the end or sent to a bank account. Also in the mobile application, the approximate date of receipt of money is reported.

Pros:

The largest number of currencies for replenishment and storage among all digital banks

Wonderful customer service experience

Wise is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Cons:

Has no banking license (no deposit guarantee or standing orders)

No free option to deposit dollars into your account

You cannot use Wise to transfer merchants that make it easier to trade cryptocurrencies, forex, CFDs and options.

International schools in South Korea

As with many other countries in Asia, South Korea’s education system is known for its strengths. Students regularly perform above average in all areas, especially math and science. You will be delighted to know that international schools in Seoul meet or exceed these standards.

South Korea offers expats a well-developed international education system for their children. An international school in South Korea is a good option for expats who want to keep their children in the international education system while living and working abroad.

As a rule, international schools have a high quality of teaching and the price is, accordingly, more expensive than in a Korean school. International private primary school tuition costs around 5,000 euros per year, with an increase to around 6,500 euros for a secondary school, and in addition, the entry fee is around 1,000 euros.

International schools are located in all major cities in South Korea, but the most famous and reputable ones are located in the capital of the country, Seoul. The upmarket Gangnam area – yes, the same Gangnam that PSY sings about – has a group of top schools. The rest are scattered throughout Gyeonggi, its surroundings, and the city itself.

Seoul’s international schools are dominated by American, British, and international curricullum. Naturally, this means that English is the language of instruction almost everywhere. If your child attended a school that does not teach English, they may be required to take an English proficiency test as part of the application process.

There are also several schools offering European curricula with relevant languages (eg French curriculum taught in French). Learning Korean is optional, but in all cases it is offered as an additional language. Mandarin is also often offered.

Applications for admission to international schools in Seoul are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Your child must meet the criteria set at the government level, but don’t worry! There is nothing crazy about this and it is standard in many parts of the world. Some schools also have their own additional criteria, but again, this is not a cause for concern.

And you don’t need us to tell you this, but the sooner you apply to your chosen international school, the better.

A day at an international school in Seoul starts at 8 am and lasts until about 3-4 pm. When lessons are over, your child has extensive extracurricular activities. The sport is especially popular in Seoul; many international schools have excellent outdoor sports facilities.

However, you can expect all the usual bells and whistles other than all-weather fields. Admittedly, the high price you will pay to educate your child at an international school in Seoul will include daily freshly-prepared hot meals. In some cases, you can even take a private bus to and from the surrounding areas of the city for your child.

Native English teachers are standard as they are much smaller than average. Even the international schools with the largest class size will have less than 20 students.

At the opposite end of the scale, the smallest international schools will continue to have small classes and very diverse enrollment. You will find at least 10-20 students from different countries. In larger schools, the number of nationalities will be double or more.

International schools in Seoul are often guided by a Christian spirit. This can include mandatory uniforms and somewhat stringent codes of conduct. However, if this isn’t yours, don’t worry. Seoul has a large selection of schools and you are sure to find a school that is perfect for you and your child.

Below you will find the overviews of some best international schools in Seoul. However, there are 17 more schools in the city. You can find the best international school for your child by personalizing the results.

Requirements for candidates

For admission to one of the international schools in South Korea, international students usually need to provide the following:

Completed application form (provided by the international school)

Proof of eligibility for admission to a foreign school in Korea

Copies of relevant forms from schools attended in the past two years. (If the forms are in any language other than English, a translated version is required.)

Reference letter from a recent teacher

Photocopy of the main page of the passport

Most recent test scores (usually English, math and science) for 2nd to 9th grade students only

Two full pages of original written work (in English) from recent school assignments, verified by the signature of a school official.

The last two math assignments or test scores

Medical forms

Entry and registration fees

Some international schools also require entrance tests for prospective students in grades 1-9. The entrance test includes interviews, reading, writing and math tests.

Most international schools accept applications during the year, but the system operates on a first come, first served basis (among other criteria). The best option is to apply as early as possible, before the start of the school year. British, European and American systems have different timetables, be sure to check the relevant timelines before applying.

Choosing an international school

Choosing an international school for your children is never an easy decision. When deciding to send your children to an international institution in another country, there are several important factors to consider: your child’s level of English, educational level, educational system in your original country, educational level, school location and length of stay. These factors can vary from one foreigner to another and influence the choice of an international school.

Below is a list of some of the top international schools in South Korea:

Korean International School (KIS)

The Korea International School offers students on Hong Kong Island an alternative to the IB program, offering UK A-level education.

While the Korea International School (KIS) was founded in 1960 with just six students to meet the needs of the Korean community in Hong Kong, today it offers both Korean and international flow to the international student community. The international section is significantly larger: 400 students compared to 110.

The International Section of KIS offers British-style training for the English speaking community in Hong Kong. Tuition is based on the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at admission and later on the Cambridge International Primary Program for students in grades 1-13; Students take IGCSE exams in grade 10 and A Level exams in grade 13. The school has a decent academic record; in 2017, 74% of all IGCSE grades were A * – C and over 50% of A Level grades were A * – C. Most of the students here go on to university in the UK, followed by Hong Kong or the United States.

The languages offered are Chinese and Korean; high school has a BYOD program; and KIS offers a variety of extracurricular activities, sports clubs, environmental initiatives and charitable projects outside of educational institutions.

Countries That Open for Expats

More so, apart from countries open to digital nomads, there are also countries that are open to expats even in this covid 19 era as of July 2021. Here is a list of all the countries available to tourism and expats:

Conclusion

Many countries are open to expats, and by the end of the year, the governments of several countries will render their country available to expats. Nonetheless, for the ones that are opened as of July 2021, it is important that expats and digital nomads put the prevalence of Covid-19 in mind. Most countries would require proof of vaccination and a mandatory 48 – 72 hours quarantine period. So if you’re ready to take a trip, be prepared as regards Covid 19.

More so, it is important to do adequate research before selecting your country of choice. As outlined above, ensure that you fit all of the requirements as that’s the only way you can be thoroughly prepared and get the visa you want.

Best International Schools For Expats In Singapore – that will be the topic of today’s article.

Before introducing this article, if you are interested in our core services which are expat financial, insurance, and mortgages, you can contact me here.

The best time to consider your financial situation is when you are moving to a new country.

Introduction

How is education in Singapore organized? The youngest education system in the world that brings up practical youth. They do their internships in Cambridge and receive free education funding from major investors in the world.

In elementary school, they don’t pay to renovate the classroom, don’t collect money for the cafeteria, but pay only $ 13 dollars a month for small expenses. Education in this country is free and schoolchildren keep pace with the global economy. And all of these great opportunities are in Singapore.

Singapore’s education system consists of primary, secondary, and higher education. There are no seasonal vacations, the study takes two semesters and is divided into several levels.

Primary school (6 – 12 years old)

Primary education in Singapore is free. Parents only pay $ 13 a month for school supplies. As for the educational process, there are three stages of cognition. First, a fundamental stage: for 4 years children learn English, their mother tongue (Chinese, Malay, or Tamil).

Necessarily mathematics for the development of logical thinking, plus everything in the school curriculum includes ethics, artwork, music, and physical education. The next two years are special training. What disciplines the child has more craving for – for those, the transfer exams to high school are formed. After passing the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) exam, the student’s further path is paved.

Secondary school (12 – 17 years old)

Based on the results of exams, children enter secondary schools, where education takes place according to special courses. The student’s future depends on the primary school exams. The following courses exist:

Special. Includes in-depth study of the native language, otherwise the training is similar to an express course.

Standard. Here students are engaged in a thorough study of technical subjects, when in the academic direction they comprehend, for example, accounting. At the end of standard courses, it was decided to take an exam to obtain the N-level, but in 2004 the Ministry of Education of Singapore decided to provide an opportunity for some students to try to get the O-level, without a preliminary session at the N-level.

Express. The term of study is 4 years and passing the exam for the right to receive the O-level, that is, ordinary (ordinary, mediocre).

Normal academic. Differs from others in the term of study of 5 years.

Pre-professional. This course does not imply the possibility of obtaining an Advanced-level certificate and participation in a special training integration program. At this level, students have the right to choose six to ten subjects with the subsequent passing of the Ordinary-level exam, but this list must include mathematics, in one natural and humanitarian subject, as well as languages - native and English.

Higher education (17 years – above)

Universities attracting huge attention and the flow of foreign students began to form only at the beginning of the 20th century, many of them are considered very “young” by world standards. And thanks to its technical focus, it is still cutting edge.

Types of universities in Singapore:

Polytechs teach the basics and skills of work. Cognition comes through practice. After graduation, students receive diplomas of several degrees.

Technical university. Students learn the basics of applied sciences, business nuances, design creativity, media, electrical engineering and electronics, information and communication technologies, engineering and hospitality. You can study here at the stationary and in absentia, as well as carry out an internship.

In independent universities, it is possible, after specialized courses, to obtain a corresponding diploma or academic degree. Nobody regulates or finances such structures, therefore those who wish should personally learn about the learning process.

In national, state and private institutions, you can get bachelor’s and master’s degrees in all possible areas of knowledge.

International education in Singapore

Finding a new school is one of the most important decisions in the lives of many parents and students, especially when moving to Singapore. If you are considering going to an international school in Singapore, then you already know that there are many options.

International schools in Singapore are known for their high educational standards. But what is called an international school? It is a usual school, but with a difference – providing international education in an international environment (this means students from different countries and cultures), also these schools adopt an international curriculum, like an International Baccalaureate program, or following a national curriculum such as an American or British curriculum that differs from that of the school’s country of residence.

This international focus helps these schools foster cultural exchange, instill new ways of thinking globally, and create an immersive environment for language skills development.

Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world, but also one of the best cities to live in, as it is ranked 125th in the ranking of the most expensive cities in the world “Quality of Life Index 2021”.

Singapore is an efficient and clean Asian city that retains the charm of British colonial times while offering an advanced, well-developed environment. Singapore has become one of the most important trade and financial centers in Asia and today is one of the five richest countries in the world in terms of GDP.

Singapore has a tropical climate with no sharp seasons. There is a high temperature here all year round, as well as high humidity and a large amount of rainfall. Temperatures typically range between 20 °C – 35 °C.

Singapore’s four official languages are Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, and English. However, English is considered the main language in Singapore and is officially the main language of instruction in almost all school subjects. It is also the common language of administration and an important language for international business.

Singapore attracts a large number of expats and exceptional international schools exist to meet their demand. Singapore’s international schools tend to have a very international student population and you can find many different international curricula in the UK, USA, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, IBA, and others.

Parents need to be sure they are considering top-tier schools with valid and up-to-date accreditation from recognized international bodies.

Best International schools in Singapore

Singapore has a large number of international and private schools. It is not allowed to visit such educational institutions without obtaining special permission from the Ministry of Education.

International Schools or Foreign System Schools (FSSs). Here, in the learning process, programs from other countries are used. There are over 7 international schools in Singapore. ACS International, Hwa Chong International, and SJI International are recognized as the best international schools. They offer secondary and tertiary education programs, including a bachelor’s degree recognized by Ivy League universities.

Here is the list of some of the best and worthy international schools located in Singapore:

GESS International School

Saint Joseph’s Institution International

Chatsworth International School

Hwa Chong International School

Anglo-Chinese International School

Choosing the right school for your kid in Singapore

When deciding which school to send your child to, you should study the proposals of educational institutions, their curriculum, tuition fees, work experience and much more.

First of all, you should assess the needs, interests of the child and choose a school in Singapore in accordance with them. This may be the remoteness of an educational institution, art circles, etc.

In addition, you need to choose a school in accordance with the level of knowledge of English. For example, in public schools, all lessons are taught mainly in English. If you intend to send your child to a public educational institution, you should start preparing him for the test as part of the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS).

Next, you need to pay attention to the curriculum. This is especially true if the child will soon go to college or university. Most often, parents choose a program that is as similar as possible to the program in their country, but the program of study in a Singapore school must be quite difficult for the student.

The curriculum for certified schools in Singapore aims to prepare children for admission to higher education. In addition, attention should be paid to the types of extracurricular activities. It is best to choose schools with a good athletic program that enable students to develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, or arts or music programs.

Then check out the level of professionalism of the teachers, as this factor is one of the fundamental factors in the quality of education and development of the child. To do this, you need to find out about the certification and the required degrees of education required in the chosen school from your teachers, whether employees are required to take advanced training courses.

The size of the class is also important. The smaller it is, the better. You also need to choose the right level of education in accordance with the age of the child.

The cost of the education in Singaporean international school is also an important factor. In public schools, fees are standardized by the Ministry of Education. International students are charged higher fees than Singaporeans.

For the year, primary school costs S $ 513, secondary school S $ 670, and college S $ 1,027. In private schools, the cost of education is much more expensive and can reach 35 thousand Singapore dollars, depending on the chosen institution of the child’s age and status (foreign student or resident in Singapore).

Let’s now quickly review all the above-mentioned international schools, so you could point out the ones that you think can be a good match for your kid.

GESS International School

GESS Singapore is an international non-profit school that believes in fostering confident, forward-thinking learners, celebrating our values of respect, openness and diversity. As such, it is not only the only international school in Singapore to teach Konferenz der Kultusminister, but also a popular choice for families looking to follow the IBDP path.

The main subjects in the school include mathematics, German, English, social studies, science, arts, music and sports. However, these two areas of education are completely different, and each in its own way addresses families of different nationalities.

All students enroll in the same preschool program (18 months to 5 years), which is built on the IB Primary Years Program (PYP); instructions in English and German.

Students also have the opportunity to learn a third language – French or Latin – upon reaching high school; Spanish is offered from grade 10.

GESS is making a real effort to bring what can be a two-part school into one. Both the German and European streams go through the same academic year, wear the same uniforms, and are encouraged to study and specialize together in extracurricular activities, breaks, sports clubs, seasonal festivals and gatherings.

Tuition fees

Fees range from $ 18,880 to $ 23,870 in the German stream and from $ 26,950 to $ 35,310 in the European stream; As you would expect, the IB program fees are slightly higher.

Saint Joseph’s Institution International

St. Joseph International Institute is a Catholic school with good results in IGCSE and IBDP. As one of seven Lasallian schools in Singapore, SJI also emphasizes pastoral care and “respect for the individual”.

The SJI Nonprofit International High School opened its doors in 2007 and was followed in 2008 by the SJI International Primary School; two schools share one campus.
