Introduction
Vancouver is one of the largest and most famous cities in Canada. It is located in the western part of the country, on the Pacific coast. For many of us, its name is heard, probably only thanks to the Winter Olympic Games, which were held here in 2010.
But in general for North America, this is a landmark place – a kind of center for new ideas and non-trivial views. For example, in 1971, it was in Vancouver that the Greenpeace organization was founded, which later became the locomotive of the global environmental movement. And since 2014, the main TED conference has been held here – the world’s most famous platform for the exchange of new views, ideas and approaches.
Vancouver is loved by American filmmakers: it has a mild climate, gorgeous nature around, and the cost of filming is much lower than in similar locations in the United States. Therefore, films are often shot in the vicinity. If you’ve watched Me, Robot, Deadpool, or the Twilight saga, you now know that bits of Vancouver flashed across your screen.
Although Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada, only about 630,000 people live in it. True, together with neighboring cities that are part of the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area, the population already reaches 2.5 million people.
Have you finally decided to move to Vancouver? If a quiet life, a healthy lifestyle, active sports suits you, then moving will be the right decision. We will tell you more about moving to Vancouver and life in there, so you will have all the necessary information about your future. Below are some general points you have to know:
This is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Vancouver, nestled between the ocean and the mountains, is definitely beautiful! As a newcomer to the city, you will find yourself often distracted and admiring the beauty right outside the window.
In order to find a place to live, you have to fight.
Finding a place to live will not be fun at all. Considering that the level of vacant apartments is less than 1%, vacant apartments are usually dismantled on the same day. You will have to be quick and persistent, and you will need a bottle of champagne when your apartment search is successful.
Everything is expensive here.
Gas, food, rent… Everything is expensive here and people love to complain about it. For many, buying a home in Vancouver is a pipe dream, especially at current prices.
Cyclists run the city.
To be honest, they are everywhere – on the streets, in elevators with their bicycles. And don’t even think about complaining to your new friends about being annoyed by cyclists, because most likely they are one of them.
Rain does not stop anyone here.
In other cities, when it rains, people try to stay indoors and not go anywhere. But here it rains so often that it does not affect the plans of the inhabitants.
The nightlife is quite modest, you won’t have anything to write home about.
The nightlife here is not as lively as in other cities. If you are looking for and love violent parties, then perhaps this city is not for you. But don’t worry, we have a good alternative – pubs and bars. Yes, we love beer and we relax that way.
Cooking is thriving here.
Vancouver has a lot of delicious places and many different cuisines. Fresh local ingredients make this city a gourmet paradise. And of course, having tried sushi here, you will hardly be able to eat sushi in your hometown. Sushi in Vancouver is delicious.

East Hastings – from Carrall to Gore Ave – is one of North America’s most infamous streets. Here they know what poverty and misery are. If you’re new to the city, find out what to expect from this street and get around it better. There you will not be laughing.

There are many so-called immigration programs in Canada. Each such immigration program represents a specific set of requirements and procedures required for a candidate to go through the immigration process and obtain an immigrant visa. Distinguish between federal and provincial immigration programs to Canada.
Federal programs operate throughout Canada, without being tied to a specific province (except for Quebec). Provincial programs are geared to the requirements of specific provinces and are designed so that an immigrant is most likely to stay in a particular province.
So immigration to Canada is a complex process, but quite feasible. How to leave for Canada in 2021 is probably one of the most popular questions among many expats. In this article, we tried to answer this question in as much detail as possible, describing the main programs for immigration to Canada and other ways in 2021, how people obtain Canadian residency and citizenship.
Today, there are 12 main ways to move to Canada:
- Earn a passing score in Express Entry
- Immigrate to Canada through study / education
- Move to Canada as a qualified professional
- Immigrate to Canada through a nanny or caregiver
- Invest in a country
- Get married / marry a Canadian
- Business immigration
- Refugee
- Pilot atlantic program to Canada
- Rural and Northern Immigration
- BC Tech Pilot for IT Professionals
- Immigration by International Experience Canada
Let’s review each method and you’ll understand which one is the most suitable for you.
Method 1: Get passing points at Express Entry program
In January 2015, Canada launched one of the most advanced immigration programs, which is called Express Entry. The main purpose of this program is a faster selection of highly qualified immigrants through special tools.
Express Entry is built on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which evaluates the applicants based on their personal information.
Express Entry points are calculated based on the following factors:
- Skills and work experience.
- Education.
- Knowledge of English and / or French.
- Language ability and education of the candidate’s husband/wife or partner.
- Availability of a job offer is supported by a labor market impact assessment (LMIA).
- Availability of a provincial government program for permanent residence.
- Language skills, education, and work experience presence, that result will help the applicant to be employed.
Method 2: Immigrate to Canada through studies
This is probably the most popular way to immigrate to Canada. The essence of the program is simple, you get an education from a Canadian public university, paying for everything from your pocket (the price of annual tuition varies from 16 to 40 thousand per year), after receiving your education, you receive a work visa and through subsequent work experience in the specialty that you graduated from Canada, you can obtain residency after citizenship.
Method 3: Leave for Canada as a qualified specialist
If you are exactly the specialist that Canada needs, then you have a good chance to leave, but again, just being a specialist is not enough.
You will need to provide a confirmed, certified and translated work experience, a diploma in the specialty, pass an English exam to the required level, provide data on property, a police clearance certificate, undergo a medical examination, and most importantly – provide an offer about working from a Canadian employer.
If all this is in your hands – then there are excellent chances for immigration to Canada. Those specialists who are on the list of in-demand specialists for immigration to Canada in 2021 have the higher opportunities to move to Vancouver.
Method 4: Immigrate to Canada through Nanny or Nurse Work
Another popular program by which many leave and immigrate to Canada. Here, too, not everything is so simple. In short: you need to find an employer and work for him for 2-3 years.
A big plus in looking for work as a nanny or nurse will be the presence of a driver’s license. In May 2019, the Trudeau Government launched a new pilot immigration program for nannies and caregivers (or rather, even two) that will allow care professionals, elderly and children to come to Canada with their families, as well as offer them the opportunity to move to the country for permanent residence.
Method 5: Investing in Canada
To put it bluntly, you can simply buy a Canadian residence for a minimum investment of $ 200,000 ($ 800,000 for a province in Quebec). There is nothing more to say, the decision is yours.
Method 6: Marriage / Marry a Canadian
Probably one of the most popular Google searches related to many countries. As far as Canada is concerned, simply marrying to immigrate to Canada will not be enough.
The process stretches over many years, and the host (who lives in Canada) will be obliged to sponsor you for 2 years. There should be a level of trust. That’s not all, your marriage will most likely be tested for suitability, and this includes a bunch of questions, for sure, if you read about these programs, you know the details.
You are called for an interview, they can both with your spouse and without, and they ask you a bunch of questions to make sure that the relationship is real.
Canada also has the right to request information about correspondence, calls, photos, and so on. In general, the process is not easy and energy + stressful, so think twice if you decide to enter Canada in this way. Same-sex marriage is legal in Canada.
Method 7: Moving to Canada under the program for entrepreneurs or business immigration
The main and general purpose of the program is to create jobs for Canadians. If you have an idea and related business plan that will satisfy the Canadian government, then you are welcome. Three basic requirements:
- have $ 300,000 net worth of personal and business assets;
- hire at least one Canadian;
- to found business for at least three years.
There are certain concessions for farmers.
Method 8: Refugee status
There is a 1% chance, that before arriving to Canada without visas and other documentation, you will be able to apply for a refugee status at the border. It is recommended to have the right forms with you.
If they are not there, then it will be possible to fill out everything on the spot, after which the immigration officer will conduct an interrogation.
If you can convince the officer during the interview that certain serious circumstances forced you to flee your country, then you may be given the green light to immigrate to Canada.
Method 9: Pilot Atlantic Program to Canada
The Atlantic Pilot Program to Canada (AIPP) is one of the simplest immigration programs in the world (respectively, the easiest way to leave for Canada), with simplified requirements for almost every indicator: language, education, work experience.
The program aims to settle Atlantic Canada and guide labor deficits in four Atlantic provinces of Canada.
The hardest part of this program is finding an employer, but recently each of the provinces published a list of employers through which you can immigrate under this program in 2021.
Method 10: Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, five-year pilot program
On January 25, the government of Canada announced the new Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot program, which aims to attract skilled foreign workers to rural and northern communities in Canada.
The program includes cities with 50,000 or less population, or located at a distance of at least 75 km from a metropolis with a population of 100,000 or more. At the moment, applications are being collected from cities until March 1, so stay tuned.
Method 1 11: BC Tech Pilot for IT Professionals
Introduced in 2017, the BC Tech Pilot program provides a fast track to Canadian permanent residency for international IT talent in British Columbia. On June 6, 2020, the program had been extended until 2021.
Applicants must have a British Columbia job offer from one of the 29 eligible pilot jobs that lasts at least one year and with at least 120 days remaining until the end of the offer.
Method 12: Immigration to International Experience Canada
The International Experience Canada (IEC) program is open to young people who want to live and work in Canada on a temporary basis.
Young people between the ages of 18 and 35 from one of 36 countries (Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are included in the list of these countries. Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan are not included) eligible to participate can now create a profile and, if they are eligible to be included in their country’s candidate pool for their chosen category or categories. After your temporary stay, you can turn the IEC into a path to permanent residence.
New Immigration Programs in 2021
In Canada, in May 2021, workers in vital industries, international graduate students and French speakers will have six new ways to obtain permanent residency.
On April 14, Canadian Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino announced new programs. Three of the new programs will set the stage for permanent resident status for 90,000 new immigrants this year.
The other three streams for French-speaking immigrants will not have admission restrictions. The new programs will target temporary workers in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as those at the forefront of other important sectors of the economy, as well as international students who graduate from Canadian institutions.
From May 6, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (IRCC) will begin accepting applications for the following three streams:
- 20,000 applications for temporary health care workers
- 30,000 applications for temporary workers in other selected life-saving occupations
- 40,000 applicants-international students who have completed their studies
Canadian studies establishments will accept applications until November 5, 2021 or until the maximum number of applications is reached. This new government policy applies to workers in 40 medical professions, as well as 95 other important professions in various fields such as nursing and food production and distribution.
To be eligible for participation, workers must have at least one year of work experience in Canada in the healthcare or other pre-approved life-saving profession. International graduates must have completed a qualifying Canadian higher education program within the past four years, and no earlier than January 2017.
Graduates and workers must be proficient in one of Canada’s official languages, meet general eligibility requirements, and be eligible to work and work in Canada at the time of application. They must also live in any of Canadian provinces.
“This new policy will help those in temporary status plan for their future in Canada and play a key role in our economic recovery,” Mendicino said in a press release. “Our message to them is simple: your status may be temporary, but your contribution is durable – and we want you to stay.”
Immigration and Relocation to Canada in 2021: Trends
On October 30, 2020, Immigration Canada announced its Immigration Plan 2021-2023, in which it stated that it would target the highest immigration rate in its history.
Over the next three years, Canada will strive to accept the following number of new immigrants:
- 2021: 401,000 immigrants
- 2022: 411,000 immigrants
- 2023: 421,000 immigrants
The only time Canada received over 400,000 immigrants a year was in 1913, when it welcomed 401,000 new arrivals. She never came close to that figure again.
The 2021-2023 Immigration Plan aims to accommodate about 60 percent of all immigrants through economy class programs, including through the Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program.
The Immigration Plan is the most important immigration announcement the government of Canada makes every year. It talks about the number of new permanent residents that Canada intends to accept in the coming years, and under which categories Canada intends to accept them. Canada welcomes immigrants in the following categories: economic; a family; refugees; and on humanitarian and charitable grounds.
Earlier in 2020, on March 12, the federal government announced that Canada would aim to welcome over a million new permanent residents between 2020 and 2022. After a few days passed, Canada was forced to close its borders, as many other powerful countries did, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, Canada is likely to be well behind the 341,000 immigration target it has set for this year, but it has been running Express Entry qualifiers throughout the pandemic, leading Canada to break its Express Entry record in that year. year. In addition, selection for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is ongoing.
